Regarding taking off Keycaps on an HHKB when opening up...
« on: Thu, 27 April 2017, 18:41:39 »
I have a couple of caps that I am scared to take off. They are a really tight fit and I do not want to break the stems. I will be opening it up in the next couple of weeks to domeswap.  Is there a downside to not taking the keycaps off or will I be ok?

If you're just dome swapping you don't have to take off any caps.

I'd be quite surprised if you broke the stem or slider while removing the caps. I've got some RF caps that grip like hell (can literally lift the hhkb by pulling it with the wire keypuller and not holding it down), and have had no problem with stem or sliders.

Topre caps fit on more tightly on average than MX caps. You just have to make sure the wire puller is mounted on all edges and than slowly wiggle and pull at the same time.

I know.. I was afraid to pop off my spacebar before flipping it. But you just need to get a feel for it with topre.

I broke the stem on a KK mod :( been hunting down a replacement with no luck thus far. Affraid of taking the other mods off. It is a v1 set and I hear that can happen.
