Ill rate my own avatar since everyone else missed it

I give it 9/10.
1: Because its me.
2: Because its a bit funny since im no gangbanger (and it almost seems like that in the image ;-)
3: Videogame connection on the t-shirt is always a +.
4: Its a nice photo and on a location i used to live and loved.
5: Nice colours.
6: A bit mysterious and just about anonymous enough to be perfect for the internet, but still personal enough to stick out.
7: For pro photoshop skills editing in my name and almost making it look like it was there all along

8: 1 point off for no keyboard connection.

Heh, I love blues too. Maybe there's a correlation between blue switches and female avatars...

I was not around during the Geek Girl golden age, but I did grow attached to your last avatar (I actually didn't realize it was a woman until I stumbled across the "Where's Geek Girl" thread).

That said, your new look gets 10/10 because I have a crush on Zooey Deschanel.

My last avatar was a photograph of me - but I didn't say the avatar had to be a photograph. I said "representation of persona". It is a projection of how people should see you. If I see a female avatar, I think I am talking to a female.

And I'm just responding with my opinion, which is that the two posts I quoted in my first response are narrow and cranky. I am not trying to troll here, just discussing what you wrote. I don't really agree that an avatar should be anything. It can be whatever you want. But even accepting your definition, I think "representation of persona" is broad enough to include crossing gender lines without making assumptions about the person or getting creeped out.

Would you assume that someone whose avatar is, say, Patrick Stewart, is male? Would you be shocked and disturbed to learn that that person is actually female?

As I said before, my avatars represent me through my prevailing interests at the time. You can tell what a person is like through their interests, so I guess I'm kinda lost if showing the fact that I'm attracted to females makes me appear gay to you. I would think there would be more of a problem if I had a picture of any male who wasn't myself as my avatar. And if it's not a photo, I've just grown bored of using the same old keyboard/computer/gif avatars that I've been using year in and year out and decided to do something a little different.

Yes, I would be disturbed. I'd think I was talking to Patrick Stewart. (and assume he liked a good mechanical keyboard after all that touchscreen junk on the Enterprise)

In the middle of discussing ALPS switch mods, I'd ask him what kind of keyboard Riker likes... and if he said he had no idea because he was actually an American girl, you're damn right I'd find that disturbing.
