sethk_'s Switch Tuning and Soldering
« on: Thu, 16 July 2015, 00:20:48 »
Mod Edit: Please be advised that the mod team recently concluded a Vendor Review of this user, and has chosen to revoke vendor status as a result.  As such, the order link has been removed from this thread, to protect potential unknowing customers from signing up for his services.  The thread will remain unlocked so that users can still interact with sethk_ if needed.  If there are any questions about this decision, please feel free to contact myself (HoffmanMyster) or another member of the mod team.  Thank you.

Hi, I have always built my own boards when needed, and I love tuning switches, so I have decided to offer it as a service.

What I will do:
  • Clear Tops
  • Stickering
  • Lubing
  • SIP Sockets
  • LEDs
  • Board Assembly
  • Spring Swaps

I will not do repairs unless it is replacing broken switches. If it goes beyond that, I will just send it back. It is beyond my ability to assess and diagnose what is wrong. I can also do switch swaps, but if I will only try 1-2 times to get a switch desoldered, as I fear for ruining your board.

Every switch will be cleaned with Isopropyl alcohol after I open them. This way I can ensure all the dirt is cleaned out.

Pricing:

You will pay for all materials I use, and I will charge 5 dollars per hour on top of materials. Turnaround  and speed depends on what you want done on your switches depends on how long it takes.

Soldering Gear:

Hakko FX888D

Hakko T18-S9 Chisel Tip

Kester 44 Rosin Core Solder 63/37 .020"

Edsyn Soldapult

Seth,  I'll need some work done.  considering you're in PA I think you'll be the safest route as I want to keep the keyboard out of transit for as long as possible.  Can we talk about my future projects via PM?

I haven't used seth's services personally, however we have talked a great deal and I consider him very trustworthy.  :)

I know we talked about it but this confirms it. I would love to have the switches made like the ones in the bface photo album! should be clear tops and skyblue stickers right?

I'll probably pm you about some switch modding after the LZ and 456 arrive.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Just want a give a nice introductory bump to Seth's artisan thread.  He helped me out big time with a board of mine that had a stabilizer problem, not only did he diagnose and fix the problem in about the span of about 5 minutes, but he also shipped the board back to me next day with an awesome gift attached with it!  Anyone looking for really well done, and quick service, please seek him out!  Thanks again so much, Seth!

Once school starts, my rates will go up as my time will be worth more. I have 2 boards lined up that I am currently working on, and then some lined up once the GBs are shipped. If you already talked to me, the price whenever we talked is confirmed at the rate.

So if sethk_ is a vendor now shouldn't this thread be in his vendor subforum??

Should he even have vendor status? AFAIK his shop is no longer accessible and he is basically unresponsive. Not really sure how the whole "vendor status" thing works anyway.
