went to moscow, met a friend, had some deer meat from Vorkuta, then some sausages, then some port shashlyk. made a campfire. drank a bottle of whisky. feel great today.

p.s.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Slept for 16 hours today. Woke up @ 9pm and basically threw the day away.

I don't understand how this happens.

Found some incredible free softsynths that kinda made me drool a bit.

The catch?

win32 VST, every single one of them. And it just so happens that I can't get the win32 bridge for Carla working. Currently trying to get dssi-vst working as a bridge.

nevermind that last part, got carla's win32 vst bridge working.

I walked home in it from a bar last night. It was something of an experience. Not something I'd like to repeat, but the bar was fun.

I got to use floppy disks at work, in an attempt to fix one of our most antiquated servers (Pentium III w/ Win2k).

Turned out I didn't need them, I just had to disable the antivirus program (apparently the filter driver was corrupted, and was the cause of the constant system failures).

un-bricked my desktop. Still not useful (I/O errors when trying to perform disk ops in most regions, and still refusing a lot of USB stuff) but at least it can connect to the internet and boot one of my games again now. It's torturous to use that laptop because I pretty much have to be laying in bed, which gets uncomfortable pretty much instantly, so I'm glad I can at least browse the interwebs comfortably again.

Off the device or off your hard drive? If off your hard drive you can try using Recuva to get some back. Depending on how the device deletes, you might be able to recover some from it. I've used Recuva to great success on quite a few occasions involving accidental deletes on my HDD, and some varying degrees of success on mobile devices. Haven't tried any other recovery software.

I've never used iTunes. I'm guessing you can have your collection redownloaded through their service?

I guess that would put you back at trying to recover them. Might just have to give that program a try. It's made piriform. They make ccleaner.

Well that sucks. Their website says it can recover stuff deleted from iPod.

Edit: Also says this - "Recover files from your iPod, iPod Nano, or iPod Shuffle (iPod Touch and iPhone not supported at this time)."
