It's been dry this week. Sunny twice, but still cold :(

Looks like a nice weekend :)

I heard about the eclipse on Friday - bright clouds, followed by darker clouds, followed by brighter clouds :p

I was asleep :P

But yes, I heard the same. Exciting stuff.
what did i do on friday? watched the eclipse in the bright sky. that's just before its "peak".

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Technically it was yesterday that I did this but I went to the so called Dealer Day from work.
All the various suppliers came together to show their latest products and I had a great time just talking to them.
So much so that I forgot there was a ton of stuff to do outside such as fly a drone, follow a trailrunning clinic and have a professional barber take care of my beard. :))

I have a ton of folder and business cards and a few items for my wishlist such as:
- Millican bags - Classic looking lightweigh hiking daypacks with all the functionality of a modern pack
- Lamzak - think of it as an inflatable fatboy beanbag
- Nigor tents - Can you say 2 person tunnel tent that can hold a 2m tall person with a huge vestibule for a little over 2 kg?

All in all a good day. :)

Whoa, where do you work?  It's like my dream job to just play with gear all day.
I work at one of the largest outdoor gear retailers in my country as a 'sales assistant'. So basically just a sales person. :P
But working there for close to 8 years has given me quite a bit of experience. Both firsthand and secondhand.

It's fun work, especially since it is one of the few sales jobs where people do come to you for advise.
And the discounts on gear and the opportunity to try out different stuff is great as well for someone highly interested in the technical workings of all this. :)

Ask me about tents, boots, clothing and general gizmos and chances are I can tell you a ton of stuff.
But my main interests are the combination of the technical and casual stuff. A dress jacket with Gore-Tex Pro Shell for example.

I had my over the phone technical interview today.  I didn't think it went that well and the interviewer told me I would hear something back in a week or two.  Got a call 5 hours later to schedule the on site face to face interview.  Apparently I did better than I thought.

:(  so close...

:P  Seriously though, sound awesome.  :D  I remember you answering my question months ago about some gear you picked up, and it keeps making me jealous that you work at such a place.  The experience, discounts, and surrounding yourself with people with the same outdoors interests seems really rewarding.   :thumb:

It is, and that is what makes it so enjoyable. Sharing but also listening to the stories of some of the customers is incredibly inspirational. Or jealousy inducing. :P
I wouldn't want to work there full time as I need a certain amount of variety in my work but I will keep working there as long as I can.

How tall are you Hoff? I'm sure I can point you to some nice tents, even if it is just for fun. :)

I'm only an extra 3cm over 2m, so it's not that extreme, but tents are hard to find in proper length (except for 4-6 person tents :P ).  I'm actually in the market for a new tent, so advice would be welcome.  :)  I've seen Nemo tents in one store, and they are actually quite good for taller people, since the sides near the bottom are near-vertical rather than sloping all the way down.  But if you have better recommendations, I'm all ears.   :thumb:

And what a nice one you have :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Do you mean BitTorrent as in the program? because thats not true, was using BitTorrent up until the last update (qTorrent now), BT has no problem with it, although KAT is blocked in the UK under VIrgin/BT/Sky its not too hard to find a proxy.
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

I heard BT filters BitTorrent, et al.  Is that true?
no, i just downloaded another season of Columbo. and i guess i'll be getting a seedbox just in case.

Haha, not really. I know my connection isn't the fastest out there, but I just wanted to mention how nice my ISP is, it upgraded from 50/10 to 100/50 for free.

Did some gardening, involving pruning back a prickly bush that was preventing me from cutting a few branches from a tree, the branches having grown sufficiently to foul a cable coming into the house from the street, and to drum against the guttering in moderate winds.

In the process one of the thorns dragged across the soft and squishy side of my left pinky, leaving a small but bleeding scratch.

The ring finger on my other hand seems to have suffered a similar fate, although I didn't feel that one happening.

I'm still not sure about this outdoors thing, but some people seem to like it.

At least I didn't fall off the ladder!

Went to the library and goofed around in TinkerCAD.  I'm hoping I fixed the problems that were wrong with Alps adapters and the BS and Topre stems.  Also made some caps in TinkerCAD and I'll see how they work and if they're worth casting.  If they are, I plan on editing the master a little, reprinting it, then casting them.
