I did not quit, but last year decided to reduce my collection, sold most of my keyboards and keycaps sets, left just 4 boards and maybe 7-8 sets of keycaps.
I simply felt overwelmed and kinda exhausted of constant chasing better keyboard.
I realised that biggest issue I've been having are stabilisers in all custom kits I had. After over 10 years of modding and building keyboards I ended up being unable to properly lube those ****ers... I dont know what I've been doing wrong but after some time every stab started to scratch again and I simply was too tired to do something with it. Such a simple thing put me off the entire hobby...

Anyway, I kept my favourite boards - Realforce r1 87u55 and CM Quickfire Rapid with MX Blacks. Those are for me personally immportal boards that will stay with me to the rest of my life. Other two are custom kits.
Stayed in our forum, of course mostly for chatting with tp :D and keeping in touch with our community - 90% of the time stying in Off Topic, but always read all other bits and keeping myself up to date with everything keyboards related :)

The seal is about the right size for most vents. But they make slightly smaller/ slightly bigger versions to accommodate different sized laptops.  There's a nother brand (IETS) that has removable staged seals to make the opening slightly bigger/ smaller.

The 1 thing Tp4 is cautious about is that the seals are memory foam, and these don't hold up well to heat. Wonder how durable they are.

And of course, these coolers are ridiculously overpriced. $50 would imho be pushing it. $30 and it's a deal. $100, is crazy town.

It creates a pressurized chamber beneath the laptop compared to traditional fans. So the airflow is now unidirectional, and it also cools the whole board like where the ssd is.

In Tp4's g5, the ssd gets pretty hot 61*C,  with the cooler going, it goes down to 44*C.  CPU/GPU Minus 10*C each.

I use 48" OLED and for desktop use its too big. Would like to reduce to 42" OLED.
77" is definitely movie panel. It must be awesome watching movies on it, plus gaming. I love to play Witcher on mine :)

Now I uderstand how tp fell in love with Villanelle, seeing her on 77"...  :-*

Last week I had a call from my doctor's secretary and she said that my doctor needs to move my follow-up appointment from April to this Tuesday.
I thought, ok, time slot released, so he wants to see me earlier. No worries.
So I went there today and he told me that unfortunately lab results showed its is malignant. So now I'm waiting for appointments to do MRI scans to see if there is any spread.

To follow up, CT scans showed no major spreads, but then after another few weeks of waiting, my doctor had a consilium and they decided I need one more surgery. They want to go back to same area and get rid of all tissue around plus all lymph nodes, which there is like a huge network of.

I'm on this board because I type a lot every day and want good tools and I like to create and modify things. That is what Geekhack was about when I registered a long time ago. But apparently there are people who are here only because they have been bit by a collecting bug. I avoid the shiny colourful stuff: it is not for me.

What I do like is that the widening of keyboards as a hobby has nurtured keyboard evolution, so that there not exist even affordable ready-to-buy keyboards with interesting useful features and technical solutions. Not many years ago, you couldn't buy a gasket-mounted keyboard with hot-swapping sockets, without having to solder it yourself, but now you can.

I mean I think the collection aspect will always be an integral part of being in the hobby, but I agree that it is narrow to think of the hobby like that. It's bound to happen especially with custom keyboards being such a core part now (though a better name might be customisable keyboards...)

I don't get annoyed but more confused when people just don't put that much effort into assembling the boards. I always tell people to actually take the time to mod switches properly (breaking them in, spring swapping them, lubing them), lube stabs properly and to solder, not only cause of the benefits but because it feels a lot more rewarding and engaging with the diy aspects of keyboards to solder rather than put them in and it's done (Not that hotswap is bad btw, it's amazing for experimentation and you probably should have one hotswap keyboard just for experimenting with new stuff). Plus you get to learn a pretty useful skill.

I get why some people don't, some people just want a keyboard but if you have several mx keyboards without putting that effort I think it's pretty antithetical to some of the core aspects of the "hobby" which are creating the best keyboard for you, while experimenting and customizing everything along the way. I don't even blame people for falling into that mindset of aesthetic and sound over function and feel, it's far more appealing to a person getting into everything and they are the only aspects that can transfer into an audio and visual medium like youtube or tiktok, which is how I feel most people are finding out about the hobby today.

My first reply in this thread is pretty representative of how I feel about what you said I feel, that the hobby is pretty fleeting if you exclusively engage with the materialistic aspects and the things that will engage you in the long term are the more diy aspects.
