IBM 77 Key 4704 Keyboard 6019303

USB converted with one of xwhatsit's converters I ordered in bulk from a Chinese PCB manufacturer (I still have a few left if anyone needs some).

Does anyone else have one of these besides Parak? Let's see some new photos!

Last group of photos - of the inner foam in great condition plus the repair log noting the internal assembly was replaced on 2/22/1991.

I'm incredibly jealous. Where did this one come from? I know Parak's was a lucky ebay find.

This one was a lucky find from an IT recycler.  Probably ultimately came from a bank branch giving up its unused equipment.  This one did not appear to have been used much, if at all, after it was refurbished.

Wow, you have like a trillion old, valuable IBM keyboards. How do you get so lucky with these recyclers?

Not sure - many don't even know they have this great equipment somewhere on a shelf!

How exactly do you go about contacting them? I feel like I'm missing out.  :p

The non-4704 key caps are mostly from a 1988 1393464 airline-customized Model M with extra bold key caps to better match the original 4704 keys (and the rest are from a regular Model M).

Ok so now I need this and a Kishsaver. Great find man!
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

That buckling spring technology was certainly used as much as possible by IBM.  So many different BS keyboards!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I really hope the Xtant project gets more help and development. In 2, 3, years I hope to see capacitative buckling springs on every possible layout. These awesome vintages really whet my appetite but I have other spending priorities than trying to compete with other geekhackers bidding on Ellipse's treasures.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

   I love this layout.  :)  Excellent photos, thanks for sharing.  Now we just need a big dump of these boards to come around...
