DSS profile was created by Comptec Inc (now known as Signature Plastics) to fit the universal keycap standards introduced in the mid-80s. Fading out of the spotlight shortly after in favor of its uniform brother DSA, DSS was considered lost to history until its reintroduction in the late 2010s.

Featuring a spherical top (similar to DSA), DSS is sculpted profile, much like the Cherry and SA profiles in that regard. Made from ABS plastic, DSS offers a unique typing experience. If you’ve ever wished that your DSA keycaps were sculpted, your GMK keycaps were spherical, or you just want to try something new… DSS may be right for you.

DSS Carpinteria uses a 1-1-2-3-4-3 sculpt.

To celebrate the final week of the DSS Carpinteria group-buy, I’m giving away two base kits.

Your challenge: Go out and see the sunset. For those of you who don’t know, the colors used in DSS Carpinteria were originally taken from a photo of a sunset over Carpinteria, California. It remains one of my favorite photos and has quite a bit of sentimental value to me. I want you to have a similar experience of your own.

How to enter:
-Go outside in your city and see the sunset! Hang out for a bit and take it all in.
-Take a photo of the sunset and upload it to Imgur or a similar image-hosting website. The photo must have been taken between June 30 and July 5. Please be honest and don’t cheat!
-Fill out the form below by Monday, July 5 at 2AM Eastern time.

Two base kits will be raffled off via random number generator on Monday, July 5. One base kit is offered by AlphaKeys.ca and another is sponsored by MyKeyboard.eu.

I'm confused. The only set that hit minimum order quantity was NorDe, and then the next post says "all kits will be made." What is the purpose of MOQ if it doesn't need to be reached?

Regardless, that's good to hear. I want to confirm, if I wanted a complete set of keys for a full-size US qwerty keyboard, would I order the base and the numbpad?

I also want to ask a question about the color. I'm not certain about my monitor's calibration, but the yellow looks kind of like school bus yellow. Is that generally the right ballpark, or is it more orange like a safety cone?

Oh, it does have to be reached. But it needs to be reached by the vendors. In other words, if vendors are confident they'll be able to sell the additional kits, they might decide to order (MOQ or even above) regardless of the GB outcome.

All kits will be made due to extras. No updates yet on the Asero keycap. For a full-size US QWERTY keyboard, base and numpad should be enough.
The orange is closer to pastel school bus yellow, not exactly safety cone orange as it's more desaturated. Cajun sauce orange?

Update time.

Most updates are sent out on Discord, but as the nov/deskmat designer I can only update so much since I'm not in direct contact with the vendors.
Cables are done and should be shipping out soon,
Deskmats are finally approved in terms of colours and are now in production,
3DK said in their server that SP is at the packaging stage, so they should be shipping out to vendors soon,

I have no update on the switches or other collaborations, but please do join the discord linked in the post for more frequent updates.

The deskmats are waiting to be shipped, just waiting on some paperwork.*

*A heads-up regarding the deskmat's colours:
I have made changes to the deskmat. The orange has been desaturated to reflect the orange of the set more accurately. A more detailed explanation is available at acitrin's discord in the update channel for Carpinteria and the linked gallery, but a summary of it is that the original prototype was very saturated, bright, and painful to the eye in use (almost fluorescent) and I found it far from the nature of Carpinteria, hence the tuning. The blues and blacks remain close; only the orange has had a notable change. For photos, please refer to the discord channel or to this gallery: https://imgur.com/a/V6E4PBa

Hi,

anyone ever received the DSS Carp custom cable? I've ordered this at 3DKeebs which I believe was the only store selling them. My last update from this shop is from end of July saying that shipment of DSS Carp items will start next week but still didn't received it...

3dKeebs is also not replying to my mails and I understood they will close the shop hence asking here.

Received mine, the blue alphas were totally off and different from the renders. The blue looked like the same blue color from that collabed cable. I would definitely avoid all the future set from this designer.

From my monitor the blue looks like the blue in the photo of the switch. I thought it was going to be a bit lighter an with a slight tinge of green.

But, I don't mind. It's not so far off to bother me, and anyway no standardized color swatches were given so there's not a good way to see the correct color first hand.

They were shown in the IC but got left out of the GB post:

This swatch shows the default RGB values determined by RAL, but to be honest the hex doesn't do the blue justice. I’ve attached some photos of the standard swatch from the RAL K7 in a few different interior light settings.
