Dihedral 79 Plate Interest Check

Original Post

Please Complete This Form If Interested

The Dihedral 79 is a board I have been working on for a long time as my endgame - a board that is small but also does not compromise on any usability. Above you can see an image of it's layout - which employs an Merged Ten Key design whereby the numpad and navigation block are merged together in a way similar to that seen on the CM Storm TK

Taken from my original thread:
Based on a TKL design, the D-79 puts the f-keys behind a function layer to create a slim and attractive keyboard, while merging the num-pad into the navigation cluster to enable fast number input without a full-size keyboard. The D-79 also maintains the dedicated arrow keys that make the TKL format so attractive to many users, and splits the spacebar into two to minimise space wastage and to create a better positioned backspace.

This is an IC for a Dihedral 79 Plate group buy - a planned GB which will allow anyone interested in this design to get a plate and build a board based on it.

Base Offering

D-79 Plate in 1.5mm Stainless Steel.

Hopefully can also be included in base package

Two 2.5u DCS bars with each plate purchased.

Potential Extra Offerings

Acrylic Layered Case as an extra option for the GB.

That 2.5u spacebar is gonna be really difficult to find

Also, no backspace?

It's the left 2.5 bar. SP can make them.

There is currently another IC for a standard space bar board run by doodersbrothers.

What kind of case would you offer with it ? Sandwhich case with SwillKB's builder?

I think it looks cool :)

In just saying, it makes the aftermarket options very limited

Any split spacebar design excluding 1u makes aftermarket hard. This design keeps standard mods and also includes a 1.5u function key in the middle. I think that plain black 2.5u bars will not look out of place with most SP sets. There could be an option for black or white bars with your board.

Update - It appears that we will be able to sell the Keycap kit for around 10 dollars a pair, excluding shipping.

Would it be possible to flip this plate and have a left-hand numpad? Or is it cut in a way that requires switch installation from one side?

I can't imagine I just came up with a revolutionary idea in plate design . . .

The problem is that the stagger isn't uniform. Your idea is pretty cool, but it would only work with a uniform .5u stagger.
