GMK Dolch R5
Welcome to the Dolch R5 group-buy, a revisited original-color Dolch keyset with classic Cherry icon-text modifiers and an R5 bottom row (also known as Row A) :cool: It preserves the original Dolch keycap colorway (CP white instead of WS1 for the legends), and also features a custom color that is close to the turquoise originally used in the old Dolch logo. See below for more information on all the features of this set.
Features
- Cherry profile, ABS plastic, thick doubleshot keycaps manufactured by GMK.
- Alphas: CC light grey base, CP white legends.
- Modifiers: N9 dark grey base, CP white legends.
- Accents: P3 red base, CP white legends; custom color-matched Dolch turquoise base (RAL 180 60 50), CP white legends.
- OG Cherry-style Icon-Text modifiers.
- Complete R5 bottom row support!
- Support for most common layouts, as well as ISO-UK.
Other sets that use the CP (white legends) color code, that you may use to mix-and-match: Olivia, Honeywell, Ursa, Barebones Stormtrooper, Bingsu.
For N9 (dark grey modifier color): Skidata, Terminal, Wasabi, Nines, Q:01, etc...
Base - covers most layouts, including ISO-UK - (60%, 65%, 75%, TKL, 96-key, 1800/CP and fullsize)

Extension - extends coverage for other layouts (660, 88-key, 60% with arrows, Alice/split, standalone numpad), alternative legend keys, novelties, and includes extra keys so that you can have two modifier sets to dress up two keyboards (e.g. TKL/1800 + 60/65%) by reusing modifiers. You will not have enough for two full-size keyboards or two TKLs.

- 2020/08/09: Week 1 update. All kits and RAMA caps will be produced. FAQ added.

2. What is the difference between (OG) Dolch and Modern Dolch?
The colors are very different. The original Dolch (like this one) is based on the keycaps on the Dolch PAC portable computer (https://jcs.org/images/2018-03-20-windows_95-665x498.jpg).
Modern Dolch is, in fact, inspired from the original Dolch and uses a less saturated color-scheme. Yup, they were portable computers used for "network sniffing" and other various computing, network, and media operations. The Dolch keyset that has been made over the years is inspired by the colors of the keycaps originally equipped on the keyboards of these computers.

I know some people who still use R5 bottom-row with flipped spacebar -- I personally don't but I haven't really heard of them having issues otherwise.

Kinda sucks if you hit ctrl with your thumb. I know this is very specific, but I do this a lot while gaming. Upside is its much more comfortable to hit alt with your pinky. You could also pick up space keys r2, which includes a 1.25u concave key in dolch colors for that ctrl key if you need it.

Normally it wouldn't be the case that a set guarantees production with it not obviously hitting MoQ.
At the end of group buys, vendors may decide to purchase extras that they can sell on their storefronts after the group buy production and shipping has concluded for those who may want it then or had missed out before. Of course, they'd be priced for a higher retail price point.
In accounting for all of these units, including current orders, I have been told that we have ensured that all kits will hit MoQ, so they will all be produced. I am lucky that vendors believe in Dolch being a set worth stocking extras of.

I really wish the modifier colored pipe key was included with the base kit, without forcing you to buy a $90 addon kit for just that key. Having that key for aesthetics is huge for me and it not being in base kit is a near deal breaker.Yeah quite annoying that there are only one 1u Ctrl & Alt in base kit. I don't have that many keycap sets yet, none have R0 or R5. But as I also plan to get GMK Think, even if I don't like the R5, I can simply swap out the R5 keys for R4. There's no risk in it for me ;).

I also have only a couple of sets (GMK WoB and GMK 9009 R3, one EPBT blank set) so I'm no expert in various keycap profiles but... I used WoB and then I received 9009 R3 with the R5 bottom row keys and... there's just something subtle but very nice in it. IMO R5 should be the default option, dunno why it's not more common in other GBs.

I'll ask them to update it to a more conservative estimate. That's probably not happening too soon. There's at least 25 keysets that ran before/simultaneously as Dolch R5 that haven't shipped.

GMK Evil Dolch, which ran a month before Dolch R5, had an update a month ago with an estimated shipping in September.
GMK Pono and GMK Minimal R2 which ran before and around the same time, respectively, have estimates for Dec 2020/Jan 2021.
I assume these orders are much larger, so Oct-Nov would be a close, educated guess. Will confirm with any details if I receive any official updates.

GMK Evil Dolch, which ran a month before Dolch R5, had an update a month ago with an estimated shipping in September.
GMK Pono and GMK Minimal R2 which ran before and around the same time, respectively, have estimates for Dec 2020/Jan 2021.
I assume these orders are much larger, so Oct-Nov would be a close, educated guess. Will confirm with any details if I receive any official updates.

edit (late Dec 2021): target ship date - end of February - current delays are due to resin shortages.

I have unfortunate news to share that we got a new update from GMK, stating that the target ship date is for the end of the month January 2022.
Sorry for the inconvenience - it seems our initial estimate was far too ambitious but the current situation with supply shortage and backlog is worse than anticipated.
Unlucky but this is consistent with Beta's time-line. Will be worth the wait. Appreciate the update.

Some sets can be made faster than others, or other times they are submitted more slowly, maybe due to color matching, or pretty much any other factor in logistics. That's not information privy to us. Sets are independent of each other in the production process.

As you can see, EU sets are currently shipping to customers from the GB already. For the rest of sets, they are en route to the respective regional vendors, after which they will be sorted and shipped to GB entrants. Make sure to be on the mailing list or social media for your preferred vendor for the possibility of extras purchase.
I can't wait myself to see the set in person. The custom accent just looks superb, and I'm sure it'll be even better IRL. Admittedly, R5 bottom row also looks fantastic on this classic set.

Oblo has dolch in stock, though it isn't the same kitting as this run. It's more about NorDE compatibility, though it does have ansi support.
