Best of luck with the GB! I'm totally on board with that colorway, and the extras are awesome (I legit think these might be the nicest extras I've seen in a GMK GB so far).

There are things about this set that I definitely would have liked to have seen changed but with that said, I still love it and I really approve of Prototypist as the vendor of choice.  I also think the Rama Hawk cap is superb and so I will most likely be spending a bucket load on this.

Well for starters, you don't even get non accented enter and escape keys in the base kit. There is no numpad or iso support in the base kit. If you want a normal base kit (aka fullsize support with iso) you would have to buy the base, numpad and NORDEUK kits, which total to $209. Also if you don't like the orange accents, which I can imagine some people might not, you have to purchase the "blackout" kit for an extra $72, just to get rid of the orange. So yeah, I would say that the base kit is far more expensive than it should be for what you're getting.

Friendly reminder that keycap design is based on a designers vision and not everyone will be happy with all of the choices, this was not meant to be a GMK Dark rip off so if you wanted completely blacked out base kit, this isn't the GB for you. I think those that really like the set but also want a more "blacked out" theme will be willing to pay for the additional kits.

Nice work on this, I'm in for a base kit and RAMA myself :)

So I have to spend 175usd to get ISO... What the hell is this kitting?

Base with ISO AND numpad is achievable for 135usd/140usd.

Well if you only use ANSI then for sure you would support that, but there is more than one layout, ISO is not a rare layout, it's actually popular.

+1 for good kitting!

really appreciate having alice support in the spacebars kit. i don't understand why it seems to be standard practice to only offer alice support in extension kits. for minimal support it's literally just 3 keys max (2 spacebars and a B if you're feeling generous), so paying for a spacebars kit instead of an extension kit makes it a bit more palatable.

also - a loud minority is still a minority. the kitting is a reflection of both the gb runner's vision and their attempt to realize the best pricing on kits for the largest possible audience. complaining about how the kitting seems "selfish" is idiotic since the runner specifically kitted everything to allow for the best chance possible to reach MOQ on each kit offered while also dictating kits/pricing in a way that benefits the majority (not the minority). this is the exact opposite of being "selfish". in fact, penalizing the majority by having them subsidize the cost for additional keys for the minority is "selfish" and straight up dumb. if you're in the minority, you're gonna have to pay extra. that is the reality of the world, not just keycaps.

Yugo is an ISO-first (namely, ISO-YU–first) set. There is no ANSI US support in base, just physical ANSI compatibility. That's probably what Fearsome was referring to.

Yugo is an ISO-first (namely, ISO-YU–first) set. There is no ANSI US support in base, just physical ANSI compatibility. That's probably what Fearsome was referring to.

Interesting, I did not notice that.  For my own part I think ISO kit sales have increased a lot in the past few years.  On the majority of the more popular sets, ISO is normally produced.  In relation to Yugo specifically, it was not really a popular set, so the overall numbers were low, not just the ISO kit.

I use both ISO and ANSI across many boards.  Being born and raised in the UK the majority of keyboards I used (long before this hobby started, in fact back when personal computers started) were ISO'ish in their key layout.  Computers like the Commodore 64, Amiga, BBC, Archimedes and Commodore PC1, PC10.  At the same time the main business computers in use like DEC PDP were mostly ANSI'ish in their keyboard styles.  When actually typing while working I prefer ISO layout and I need UK ISO specifically.  When using some Ergo layouts I prefer ANSI layout usually (apart from the Virgo).  I also want to say that when ISO is offered either included in the base kit (1st choice) or as part of the Norde/UK kit (expensive way) I always buy it with every set of caps.  In fact I support ISO kits every time I buy (and I buy way too many).  I also think that for the benefit of your hobby and the love of keyboard design, everyone should be building both ANSI and ISO layouts, if not then why buy any more than one keyboard of choice.

Well if you only use ANSI then for sure you would support that, but there is more than one layout, ISO is not a rare layout, it's actually popular.

Is it though... :/

It IS. The horse died long ago and beating the dead horse ceased to be fashionable back in 2018, thank you.

well, i'll be purchasing the novelties and won't have any use for the ISO enter key, so if anyone wants, we can arrange something.

You can add a +1 to all the sets above apart from the posters.  Could not resist this set, deskmat or Rama.

Wow, I just discovered that great looking set. But I hate to say, it feels like the usage as a kind of "dark dolch" set has been intentionally punished or completely ignored.

This way everybody who just wants a black Enter and Esc or the most basic ISO-support has to buy the full Blackout set.
I also dont understand the "<>" key instead of a "|\" for the additional ISO-key next to the small left shift. Because "|\" is what you get there with both ENG(UK) and ENG(US/INTL) layouts.
Any possibility to get a black numpad-enter would also be nice.

All this could be done with small "Blackout Mods plus basic ISO"-Kit. I don't know how such things work but maybe this could still be offered.
I hope this doesn't come across offensive towards the designers choices, but I see the usage as "dark dolch" is pretty obviously suggesting itself here.
The mentioned kit would be a comparably simple way to make a lot of people happy, I think. And maybe it would even be profitable although less Blackout Kits would be sold, when the whole set becomes more attractive this way.
I am sorry I didn't make this suggestions earlier, if this would have made a difference.

(If there is already a kind of "dark dolch" kit out there or a reason for the "<>"-key please educate, I'm pretty new here.)

It should be nice living in 2015. 2020 was not a great year.

Splitting numpad from base kit is going along with the recent popularity in TKL designs (40's, ergo, 60, 65, 75).
However, with an ever growing community, removing ISO support on base kit without providing an easy alternative to add it is just stupidy. Sorry to say that for the designers, because it is a great set nonetheless.

This was already discussed long enough in the IC thread.
It was not possible to change the kitting anymore becuase the vendors had already gotten the quotes from GMK.
Changing things in the kits after that would create a lot of organizational issues and that's why it wasn't done.

Starting this discussion in the groupbuy thread yet again is completely useless because the kitting on an already running groupbuy won't get changed.

Thank you for not making me do any social media stuff for the giveaway. I've ordered the base kit and horizon deskmat from Deskhero.

Good luck with the group buy!
