Hi, kinda late with that keyset initially made for the MD MD Contest which dates from September 2017 or so, but here is the Extended 2048 keyset, heavily inspired by the AEKII. The main idea was to create an icon based keyset with a neo-retro look, inspired by old Apple keyboards.

I'm currently discussing with Input Club to make the GB on their site. We thought that MIX EDRUG profile could be interesting. I'm also considering MT3 and KAT, but nothing is ldecided.
I think it'd be PBT Dye-Sub since everything is custom.

The font is open-source, and icons are handmade.

I'm also still hesitating between white and "vintage" off-white color with yellow spacebar (and even some accents).
I'm still open to any additional kit like Nordeuk, mono, etc.
I'll probably make a pool very soon!

More or less, but I put a lot of effort on this keyset since a while now, and I really want this set to 'become alive'.
If you look at the MD thread (https://www.massdrop.com/talk/2343/community-keycap-set-design-contest/1828936), I had the idea months ago, it's definitively not a copy.

I'm aware of XDA Oblique. that's also why I think I'll go full Icons.
I just took too much time to make the IC, and this is totally my bad and it's unfortunate. I could have started this IC in January…

Like it generally, but the centered italic legend looks kinda "unbalanced" to me. Love the "vintage" colour.

To my mind, since it doesn't have tertiary legends, vertically centered legends are the best looking in this case.

Looks interesting. Would probably be interested if it was on ePBT or something similar enough to a cherry profile. Oblique looks great, I'm just not a fan of XDA.

I really dig the font and overall theme. I haven't tried Mix or MT3 yet, though I'm generally more of a fan of uniform profiles like DSA. Unfortunately none of the kits have the kind of compatibility I need for my KBs.

It's Barlow Condensed, with some tweaks, and 12 degrees of inclination.

I'd be in for DSA or KAT more than likely - Honestly though I would advocate that people stop showing designs before deciding the profile. It's a weird way of doing things and if you pick mt3 for example then I'm no longer interested (as I'm sure is the case for others if you picked DSA etc).

Also, maybe MT3 won't really fit the look of AEKII. Anyways, I'll make a Google Poll and see which profile people prefer!

I really like vintage set (especially the second spacebar)

IMO mix would be the better for Apple style keyset.

But the icon you use for shift is the MacOS's ctrl icon and the round for ctrl also isn't that great

and the backspace don't really look great imo (for what i see it's a reversed tab)

Thanks for the feed-back. I have to admit that the icon I used for shift is kinda misleading indeed.
I should probably use it for ctrl instead.

And well, I could go for something like that for Backspace then :

My vote is for MIX over MT3. I have /dev/tty in MT3, and  it doesn’t seem like it would have the right feel for this set.

also why not ^ for ctrl and the regular upward pointing arrow that’s standard iconography for Mac shift? Is it too late to normalize the iconography with the menubar fonts from the OS?

i love the “vintage“ colorway. Could we see some renders combining it and the whiter caps and some on their own?

I'd love to see this in MIX as well. Of course I know preferences are all over the place for what profile to use. MIX basically has zero representation in custom sets, and I think it fits the AEK vibe better than the more retro MT3. Is there any more information on the profile for MIX? I would be curious to see how the f-row fits in the general profile.

I totally agree. Mix would look better with this set.
Well there are some sources over the internet and also a nice comparison with other keycap profiles.

It should be 1-1-2-3-4-4, correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as i know, yes. Moreover i think  the topview is more like cherry/oem

This set looks great! I'm definitely in for DSA or KAT. I'm interested in MT3 as well, but I haven't tried it myself.  Not sure about MIX, though--I'm not a fan of XDA because of the large surface area, and MIX looks like it's similarly large.

Well, I find that it looks better when it's "refined". The goal is not to copy Mac keyboards keycaps but to take inspiration from those.
Extended 2048 is more a sequel than the logical continuation of these keyboards design.

I like it more when it's just 2 strokes, it looks cleaner IMO. And, I'm kinda bored of these icons tbh, we see them everywhere I wanna have something a bit more "unique".

I'm very interested! I plan on doing a FC660 layout build soon but with SMK cherry-mount switches, and these would look amazing. I love the pure white rather than the yellowed caps! Also, I've never heard of KAT profile? I can't find any pictures... Or maybe I'm missing the kit-kat joke entirely
