Preface

Xin chào,

This is the Interest Check for the Vintage/Modern Cherry logo addon kit. I always dig the vintage look of the cherry logo. After some thoughts, I think I might just run this with GMK first. The goal is to pair this a versatile, cross-compatible vintage Cherry add on kit that you can pair with your favorite GMK 9009s or pretty much any retro vintage GMK beige set out there.

I'll ask Louis to fill in on this. As far as the black version go, I don't think it would pair well with the vintage/og dyesubs vibe.

Would match 9009/retro/GMK L9 color. Hence I'm considering doing the GMK version side by side to pair with the current GMK 9009 R3. On the other hand, from what I've heard, Louis is quite confident TYL PBT could do an identical color match  .

TYL PBT is a new project from iLouis_07 (TYL stands for TianYue Lab, which is the name of his studio). Louis is a great guy and is behind some really nice projects (Volcano660, Nutcracker, Primus, DC60 etc.). You can find more information on TYL PBT in his Discord.

Thanks Otani, 9009 is the most retro/classic keyset. My partner used about one year to build our TYL PBT molds. Profile is Cherry and thickness is 1.4mm. Some more U9 sample pics:

Fair enough. Black is more a personal preference over red, it would fit with more of the pbt sets I have.

Not just that, I even bought some Cherry multicolored escape keys from a previous GB, lolz. I do not use them, just having them for the sake of nothing.

Definitely in for this kit! Been wanting some true cherry profile doubleshot ABS Cherry logo keys for ever. The Cherry enters aren't my cup of tea, but I'm willing to absorb the price of them for all the 1u keys. I would also like to back the ideal of adding at least one windowed key.

Also, I think not a lot of people would use CR on U9 but rather opt for the colored ones on U9 even though I'm assuming they'll be atleast partially pad printed. Perhaps it's worth cosidering leaving that out or replacing it with white on N9 for Dolch?

for what it’s worth i tried having GMK do a run of the original Cherry logo led keycap, and they refused to reproduce anything with Cherry’s logo on it without their express permission. having meekly tweeted at their marketing guy (he has DMs off) and maybe firing off an email somewhere, i can’t remember, i’ve heard nothing. i also messaged op quite a while ago asking if he met the same fate, also to no response.

i’m pretty desperate for a remake of one of those original caps, Cherry did it for OTD in ~2009 so it should be possible. hopefully we can get this off the ground somehow, even if the odds are against us.
