[Build] Defect's Crispy Clear 60
« on: Mon, 02 February 2015, 10:30:29 »
Hello again Geekhackers!

Another Board by Defect, this time using:
Quote
PCB:                        Sprit's 60% Face-W
Switch Stems:       Cherry Clear
Switch Springs:     Cherry 45g (Cherry Light)
Lubed:                     No
Case:                       Tex Acrylic (Until My Blue Aluminium Arrives)
Caps:                       Vortex Doubleshot PBT Bi-Color (Blue)
LEDs:                      2x3x4 Waterclear Sky Blue Alphas, TBD Mods

Nicknamed Crispy Clear 60 due to its clear crispiness.

Start with a 60% Face-W (Face-U) from Sprit.

This one is actually from Zeal.  I am waiting on 3 others from Sprit himself.

All Parts

Transparent Switch Covers

Using MX Clear stems with light Cherry springs found in MX Blue/Red/Brown (45g Cherry Spring).  No lube because I want this board to be TACTILE and CRISPY!  It will naturally smooth out over time with heavy use.

Vintage Blue on the Right

Will be using these lubed Vintage Blues in my next project

Fitted!

But forgot the stabs....pain in the ass to remove all the switches and place the clipped cherry stabs

That's more like it

Some No Flash Romantic Lighting

Caps

Bi-Color Vortex PBT Doubleshot caps (blue) and a Sifo's Soul Brobot V2

Next to my 62g Lubed Ergo Clear Watermelon Board

Cool!  Any pics of it all lit up?  I'd love to see how the light shines in that acrylic case!

Thanks for stopping by and viewing!

Only have sky blue LEDS on the Alphas at the moment...not sure what I want to do with the mods.  Might even change the sky blue for multi colors...

I'll take pics this weekend and update the imgur album.

Nice build :thumb:

Thanks mate!

Very nicely done!

I'd like to try building a keyboard one day, but I suspect it would be nowhere near as clean as build as this!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Even thought they go unseen once the keycaps are in place, clear switch covers just look so nice and clean when they are exposed.

That tex case looks like frosted glass in these pictures.

That watermelon board looks pretty sweet. Sorry, I had to.

Nice boards. Thanks for sharing.

Still waiting on 3 PCBs from Sprit and hope to take advantage of clear tops + acrylic plate for my next one.  I want to place LEDs inside the switch for epic backplate glow.

I believe :). Use search bar if you get in trouble haha.
