"VINTAGE IBM...MODEL M" 1987 1391401, in box!

:mod:
This looks to be a like-new or perhaps new, in box, 1987 1391401. A poorly labeled auction considering what it is; so if you're waiting for the perfect old M, this would be the one to get. It's the pre-'89 heavy model.

Currently sitting at $10 + cheap shipping, ends in 48 hours on Tuesday. Someone buy this.

good find. it looks used with the yellowing on the edges of the part label. i sent the seller a question asking if it is used. even if it was, it was in the box so it should be in good shape. if it is new, indeed, then i'll go nuts with the bidding. i need one more NIB M (1988 would have been nice but 1987 is OK too) that is pre '89 to finish my collection.

Someone pulled that trick on two really nice 0131 auctions I was watching a while back. The seller ended up selling them outright for $15 each with a day to go. I was irate. I had $45 snipes set on each of them, so we both lost.

The good news was that I bought an '88 1401 from him for $10, because of the poor title.

I don't like selling on Ebay because everybody tries to scam you if you post nice stuff.
Ebay is geared towards big time sellers that can take the hits. Small time sellers can't afford negative feedback, and are held hostage by their buyers. At the same time, small time buyers are defenseless against power-sellers who don't care about a handful of negative feedbacks.

i even like the box.  "ps/2 model 50 accessory kit" - a memory ibm would rather forget.

I especially like how he blew off this guy:

HaHa!  Assuming you're not kidding why not ship to your verified home address???  Then walk it down the street with a pretty bow on it?

Sure looked like a scam to me - I never ship to non-verified Paypal addresses.  I don't even list for international sales because I got tired of international scammers sending me emails.

I told the guy it was for my friend hoping he will ship it there. If it's shipped to my verified address then my parents would know and they will go Asian on me. No I'm not a scammer. Check out my feedback. I am a very honest person. Oh check out my youtube too because I have a couple of videos of my keyboards, nothing big but I sure love them!

:) Everyone here trusts you. I think it's just that the seller may have thought you were trying to pull something. There's no shame in trying, and it would have been awesome for you if you actually bought it outright.

Just to clarify, I wasn't mad at the buyer who got the boards I was watching, that person scored big time. I was mad at the seller for ending his auction early when he had agreed to combine shipping for me earlier.

gotcha :) I've been looking for a model m for a long time. I've been back and forth thinking, should I get a NIB one that's made by Lexmark or Unicomp? Or should I bid or shoot an offer on one that's a 1391401 but used so I can have fun cleaning it? I was seriously planning to get a used one and to prove that, I started a thread asking how you guys clean your keyboards. I really enjoy this hobby that I personally consider and I am a very picky person myself. I decided to go with a used Model M because I've never tried one and I don't want to buy a new one and then sell it for like half price because I don't like it. But thanks for the trust in me (;

Yo Wat, I trust you too!!  That was pretty funny it was you, small world.

I think you'd have fun with a used Model M - hope you got some tools you can use/borrow.  Too bad these are so hard to find in Goodwill/Salvation Army stores.   No computer recycling centers near you - they sometimes keep a secret stash in the back?  Then you could have the satisfaction of getting it cheap AND fixing it up.

hahaha I wish! I live in Edison, NJ and there is just nothing here =.="

There was a computer store (out of business now) and I did check their used stash of keyboards but they're the newer IBM keyboards which are useless and they're still selling it for $15 used. They did have some Compaq keyboards with trackpads but as soon as I pulled off the keycap, the guy came and was about to murder me just because I was checking what switch it was using. Not that I can't tell by just typing on it, but I want to see how sh*ty keyboards now are.

A: hello
He sent me another message saying "yes." So I guess that means he'll ship USPS parcel post for those of you watching it. I asked him the question several days ago, before I decided not to bid. I really, really, despise one word responses.

BTW, who's bidding?
