I am very excited to finally post the official Interest Check for GMK 8008!

PROJECT PAGE

There are many ways to design things and everyone does it in different ways. Some people sit down, grind it out and try to force out a design just for the sake of making something, although this usually doesn't yield the best results. I am usually on the side of being inspired by things that I encounter throughout my daily life.
This set design really found me instead of me finding it.

I saw a sports bra.

GMK 8008 was born.

STORY:
I was on vacation last year and walked through a store with my wife and saw a sports bra hanging on clothing rack. I was immediately inspired to make this keyset. I have been working on it for a few months to get everything just right and I really think that this set just works. The moment I got the final color swatches chosen, I immediately knew it was one of my best so far.

This set will use the new modifier legends Janglad and I have created. See a better explanation on the 9009 R3 IC.

The mods are a dark navy-grey, the alphas are a light blue-grey, and the pink is a bright highlighter pink.

I have already chosen the swatches and confirmed them with GMK.

The kits may be changed a little.

SECOND UPDATE

This set us still a few months out, so it will not be during this GMK frenzy this quarter. Most likely Q3.

I'm probably a smaller minority than even ISO, but I would really like compatibility on par with 9009. I use a lot of it on multiple boards. Especially since it's so easy to mix with other keysets. Stepped control makes me happy. Windowed would be even better.
These colors are great, and I would mix with it as well. Especially those alphas.

These key caps are great. I feel very attractive.
But why is there no key cap for 40%? When I saw this for the first time, I was thinking of attaching it to the "45-ATS".

Great start!

But I love small form factor boards too. Orthos and 40s. And I'm a NORDE user.

Seeing as you're dedicated to making ISO more accessible, please do add NORDE support. With ISO already included in base/numpad, covering a NORDE layout should become easier too.

Hoping to see ortho/40s support too.

Imo the concrete-like color will make the neon pink pop more than the brighter color you suggested does

The lighter color looks good too. I think your sample was a little too white, but something a tad lighter than the gray color in the current renders might be nice.

Love the set with the lighter alphas. Hah hah, the grey alphas actually do remind me of sportswear, but boring grey sweatshirts and sweatpants. This is just my personal reaction, and is not meant to criticize anyone else's taste or preference. Maybe I could like the darker version if I could get the association with sportswear out of my head, lol. Probably doesn't help that I didn't come from an affluent family, and wore boring grey sweats when playing sports as a kid, when other kids had flashy gear. It's funny how personal experience colors our responses. It would be nice if the lighter alphas were an option, but I don't expect the world to revolve around me. If you like the colorway, enjoy the set!

I love the colors and I'm definitely going to buy a set. Like I said, I've seen similar colorways on my wife's running gear for a few years now and always thought it would make a great keycap set. I also think there are so many great colorways on NFL teams too.

When I have this set on my board some day, I will show it off to my friends as GMK tiddies. I don't care what inspired it. I'm calling it GMK tiddies. B/C tiddies are awesome, and this colorway is awesome.

I don't see the amount of GBs dying anytime soon. The hobby is growing, the amount of stores that do GBs are increasing, there are more ICs, and none of the GMK sets are having any trouble hitting MOQ.

Can people get various color scheme keycaps for their existing keyboards that fit with a bunch of models? Or some models only? Uh, I missed the birth of this entire, what's the 101 of how to get in on this? Not necessarily this GMK 8008 color scheme (I have a beige / light-grey HHKB pro 2) but I could be down to shop around for a new look.

I haven't posted on geekhack in… eleven years! (Edit; I checked, the gap has been less than ten years.) I've been happy with my HHKB pro 2, or, well, when it broke (that part I wasn't too happy about) I got a new one the exact same.

This set won’t be compatible with a topre board unless you have mx sliders. This is just an interest check, so you won’t be able to jump in until it goes to group buy.

I sadly have to agree. I won't be able to jump in on this one. Just two more keys would have fixed the issue. Why is it such a hassle to add these two caps?

As it stands, this kit has neither US ISO support nor UK ISO (*) support — it's got "Atlantis ISO" instead, the worst option of the three.

Sad, as it was pretty simple to go to either side of the pond and correct this mistake.

(*) UK ISO, not "EU" ISO.
