More
7/16/21:
- Adjusted prices

6/20/21:
- GB date announced! 9/6 to 10/6
- First 3D render unveiled
- Chinese pricing in
- Thread formatting updates

6/20/21:
- US pricing and MOQs!
- 3D renders in progress!
- Final kitting for R1 decided!

2/24/21:
- Changed R2 1.5u "Delete" to "Backspace" in Base Kit
- Moved extra B keys into Base & Dark Alphas rather than being in the Spacebars Kit
- Added extra tab to Dark Alphas to potentially provide coverage for another board alongside the Base
- Moved 6.25u accent from Base to Spacebars (sorry to those who appreciated this in the Base, have to make room for basic ISO)
- Moved R3 PgUp, R4 PgDn, F13 from Extension to Base
- Removed ' " key from Extension (not sure why that was there in the first place...)
- Added R4 "Send" key to Extension
- Added R1 blue pipe key to Symbol Row for better split backspace support
- Updated some novelties to fit GMK tolerances
- Added barred 5s to numpad

- Moved basic ISO back into Base Kit.
* This includes the basic ISO enter, R4 <> key, 1.25u shift and R3 pipe key
* Also included a dark option for the R4 <> key and R3 pipe key in Dark Alphas
* The remaining UK alpha keys have been moved to Norde (now NorDeUK), along with the Alt Gr keys, and the accent ISO enter

12/31/20:
The kits as of this update are going off to GMK for pricing. Time to finally get Electric to GB! Things are still subject to minor modification if you notice something wrong.
Spacebars kit:
- Added a 2.75uC and 2.25uC key
- Moved 1.25uC from extension kit
- Added 2x blue 1uC
- Added a second 3uC

Extension kit:
- Added 2u resistor novelty
- Added F13 key
- Moved 1.25uC to spacebars kit
- Fixed some legends (thanks Oblotzky for pointing out the 1.75 backspace needing an arrow)
* Decided to ommit the 1.75u Lock key
* Decided to keep the two 1.75uC keys for JD40/45 users
* Decided to keep the 2.25u shift even though it isn't necessarily used by many layouts.
660 style boards should have compatibility too.

International changes:
- Readded the » « key to Norde for Portuguese users
- Removed duplicate keys from Norde that were already in the ISO kit
* Decided dark alpha compatibility will not be offered for special ISO keys. no way this would hit MoQ.

Other:
- Added 1.25u Fn to base kit
- Added backspace resistor novelty to symbol row
* If you want split backspace support you'll need the novelties kit as well, it has 1u R1 novelties for AC and DC power which will match the symbol row
- Added dark alphas to the numpad kit by default
* This was a hard decision because I don't want to increase cost for those who have no interest in dark alphas. But, that is a preferable alternative in my eyes to including the numpad by default in the dark alphas.

11/17/20:
- New kit and board renders (by me)
- Thread formatting update
- USA, EU and CA vendors listed
- New pictures of the deskmat sample
- Base kit is now numpadless and ISO-less
    - Numpad has been moved to the numpad kit, changed numpad style to single legends
    - ISO has been moved to the ISO kit
- Added dark alphas kit
- Split novelties into "Symbol row" and "Novelties"
    - Replaced GND symbol with a NAND symbol (thank you to those that suggested adding this)
    - Fixed novelty enters being 2u instead of 2.25
    - Removed "geekhack" and "/r/mk" from novelties to reduce cost
- Spacebar kit now includes a 3C key, an extra 2C key, and extra Bs. Removed non-accent 6u spacebars.
- Extension now only supports accent (electric blue) enter keys
    - Reason: with the addition of the dark alphas, it would have been prohibitely expensive to include both gray and dark gray variants of all spacebars, so I see no reason in including the non-accent enters either.
- Norde kit has been updated to the latest version of GMK WOB & BOW's NordeUK+ kit
    - Supports British, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Faroese, Danish, Deutsch, and Portuguese layouts. I also included an Ñ key for Spanish layouts :)
    - I ommitted the » « key  as I couldn't find what layout it is a part of, if you know please let me know :)
    - Alt Gr and ISO enter keys are now a part of the ISO kit

10/19/20:
- Added finalized desk mat design
- Put pictures of desk mat samples

6/20/20:
- Added new deskmat design!

5/10/20:
- Removed duplicate R1 `¬¦ key from Norde
- Removed R4 > < key from Norde (now in base kit)
- Added R3 "~ #" key to the base kit to support ISO UK users properly
- Added 2 1u R2, 2 1u R3 novelties to novelties kit for 65% users
- Added 1.25u and 1.5u "ground symbol" novelties to novelties kit
- Removed some other novelties from novelties kit to lower cost (might have to do this again...)
- Tried making another ISO enter novelty
- Made alternate versions of the desk mat

4/28/20:
- Removed duplicate Alt Gr keys from norde
- Change duplicate | \ key to > < for ISO users
- Made ISO enter novelty tests

4/26/20:
- Legend change: "Lock" to "Scroll", "Num Lock" to "Num", stepped caps lock to "Caps"
- Renamed 40 kit to Extension kit
- Added R3 PgUp, R4 PgDn, 1.75u Backspace to Extension kit
- Finished desk mat design!

4/22/20:
- Moved 6.25u blue spacebar to base kit
- Added base color 6u spacebars to spacebar kit
- Upgraded Colevrak to Colevrak+
- Added 1.25u and 1.5u "Alt Gr" keys to Norde
- Added R4 1.5u and 1u novelties to novelties kit

4/16/20:
- Updated all kits from 2018 (sorry not listing all the changes here :) )

3/14/20:
- Revived the set!

Great work! I'm glad you're back to designing key sets, Valla, this looks lovely as do all of your previous ones.

Is the row 4 1u Fn missing or is it intended that we use the novelties for that?

Edit: maybe one of those row 4 'end' was supposed to be fn?

Good point. I'll replace two of the novelties with 1u Fn's.

I'm not really asking that it be changed, just wondering if that's what those 1u novelties were for.

Looks like the GMK Sky Dolch, but with novelties.

Interested in GMK Hana.

Edit: I know it would make it seem even more like the Sky Dolch, but the legends not being blue/cyan as well makes it seem less "Electric" to me.

Yes, that was the intention, but I still think it would be better to just have 1 of each novelty for those who don't want to use them.

Meh. I love black legends, they make the set a bit different (in the best way).

Also: people are really crazy about colorway and copying, and this is far enough off that I don't see a big issue. We all have to calm down about colorway, there are only so many ways to put together the same colors.

Yeah, it is kind of disappointing that this colorway isn't as unique anymore with Lightcycle and Sky Dolch around. I'm up to suggestions for new color changes though!

Yeah, it's fine that's why I suggested it to be more cyan, but whatever works for the designer. I guess you could always mix the two sets.

Tbh, even though I never decided to do it, I've thought about "Tron: Legacy" the movie colors. Maybe some darker blacks on this set?

I think this looks way better than Sky Dolch, that set never really appealed to me personally and the black legends add to the contrast here which makes it look quite unique despite the modifiers - I'd like to see the original colours be kept but I understand if you want to veer from the SD/Lightcycle similarities.

PS: can confirm GMK Hana would be more than welcome.

Is that a framed set of Hana? What are the caps mounted on?

Totally agree about the contrast.

Great taste in selecting the colors for the set and sensible choices for layouts covered.

My budget is basically empty for the year; but, I would make an exception if this reaches MoQ for sure.

Indeed. It was an artisan frame I got off of Massdrop, I wasn't sure how gimmicky it was so I only bought one but if they come around again I'll definitely get a few more - they look and feel very nice, the mounts are just plastic (3D printed) MX stems with velcro or a velcro-like material which the bottom of the frame is also covered with.

I like your framed Hana, lol. Looks good.

Haha thanks, it's a little crooked because it takes forever to adjust the plastic stems properly but it does pay off in my opinion, I'm happy with the way it looks and Hana is surely deserving of it.

Just an optimization suggestion, most key sets don't include the mod colored |\ key anymore. I can only speak for myself but the way I see it people who go for symmetry only use the mod colored `~ key and those who go for key function accuracy use the alpha color for both |\ and `~.

The key I think is not needed is circled below:

Just something to think about.

Good suggestion, I'll do that and see if anyone complains.

I was originally lurking on discussions around the SA set, but seeing this/thinking about it more, I really like the idea of this running as a GMK set  :thumb: I agree with other comments that color-wise this is quite Sky Dolch-esque (at least for the mods), but the grey/black alphas and novelties do make it a very distinct set IMO.

Question: Is UN6037 the same as TU2?

I lurked that thread too hoping that it would become a reality, but I think this set might actually work out better being GMK  :D

Said it on Reddit but will say it here too. Icon mods seem right for electric. Really hits home with a schematic or board layout. Hope to see an icon mod set, just like Yuri (controls alts and the whole lot of them), if text Mods are final for base kit.

The set is great; but the only key that could make this set impossible to pass for me is an R3 `~ key to cover a modern ANSI XT layout with an ISO Enter. I know it is a very special key, but being just one it could be fitted with very low impact on the cost for the set. I know there are some users that may take advantage of such layout.

Haha. I meant the same color as alphanumerics. Like a dark legend version of Dolch, but with accent keys. Not a big fan of mixing different legend colors. Makes it hard to read.

Doesn't look like it:

Current color scheme is:
UN6037 (Electric blue)
CR (Black legends)
2B (Light gray alphas)
N9 (Dark gray modifiers)
WS1 (White legends)

Would be awesome to see what it would look like:

Alphas: 2B
Modifiers: N9
Legends: CR (including cyan keys)

Really hope this set doesn't end up with icon modifiers.

Also think it would be better if the side print on pause and print screen wasn't cyan (UN6037) like the top print. Maybe CR and 2B, similar to how Classic Beige has different shades. Would spice things up.

It would look like this with almost no contrast:

If someone wants to run a GMK stealth set, then I'm all for it, but I wouldn't have any interest at all in a low contrast modifiers with teal accents. The modifiers would be invisible while the alphas wouldn't. Just doesn't seem very electric to me and doesn't work with my aesthetics. I'd much prefer low contrast alphas and high contrast mods.

Either way what you are suggesting isn't a minor change, it's a fundamentally different set.

You may be right about the low contrast, but I was curious to see what it would look like in renders. I think the cyan/white combination has the same issue you mention. Keys with that combination become unreadable in this set if they also have a small font, like Enter. The side print on pause and print screen definitely shouldn't be cyan. It defeats the purpose to have the same color if you want to use cyan legends on modifiers to make this set pop with color contrast. By placing two equally visually heavy texts right next to each other, they both dissapear. Having them black or light gray would highlight the legend text.

The white on cyan part is the one part I don't like. I mentioned it on the Reddit IC, so I never bothered to say it here. It's eye melting and doesn't fit the rest. I also agree the split colors on the side print keys would look nice, just don't forget those would be partially printed not 100% double shot. Doesn't really matter for side print of course. But something to consider.

Also, part of the issue is just that cyan is an extremely vibrant color on displays. Don't forget there are lots of white on cyan keys for things like cymk or the gmk cyan set that aren't nearly so vibrant and eye melting. Part of the issue is just that it IS a render/mockup. I feel like this is a set that would likely look more pleasant in real life than any render.

I thought Electric was dead, but it's now back, and in GMK  :)

May I suggest changing two of the 1u novelties to 1.5u or adding 1.5u Code/Diamond/Super/Whatever keycaps?

For those who are curious, yes I am working on GMK Hana as well! I'm not sure which will come first when/if they go to production.

Great news as well!  :thumb:
This would fill a void since I somehow did manage to miss out on DSA Hana last year.

So I updated the colors to match what most people are saying, which is back to the lighter alpha legends and to replace the white with a darker color. I think it turned out pretty well, but if you don't like it please let me know, I want to find what appeals to most people. I'm still leaning towards the white on cyan, but I haven't seen much support for that.
Also, I assume no-one really wants the miku child deal, so I'm just going to dump that idea unless I see new interest for it.

Thoughts:

Base kit: Someone is going to ask for F J scooped or barred. Then you have to do something with numpad 5. I don't think you were here to see all the fuss about it.
Electronic symbols: Kinda forces you to buy this to give the base kit that extra pop it is lacking imo.
Ergodox: Looks better than base kit. Good choice on having legends on the keys. It emphasizes the "Electric" more.
Norde: Someone's going to ask for console area keys in their language to not have to buy novelties and have the option to use other keys.
DC: No scooped or barred fun?
Forum: Hmm. Might as well add MD in there too since you're including this kit and plan on dropping it on there.
Spacebars: Yep...

What's up with people hacking keys off the norde sets now? If I'm to pay 200-250 USD for a set of keys, I expect it to cover the locale fully. I'd understand it if the keys were part of the base kit (as most would not need them, so just the basics there), but for a specialized set to not cover the languages/locales it's intended for is beyond me. It's only like 10 USD more to the set, so less than 5% of the total cost.

edit: and to all saying that some of the keys are unnecessary anyway, like the currently missing '§½', file your complaint to: https://www.csc.fi/

I'd move the base color off-centered 6U space bar to the main set, either adding it, or swapping it with the 6u centered. I'd be in anyways, the set has everything I need now and even some, just in case I want to populate a 50% or a 40%, awesome.

1. Is the bottom row of the Ergodox kit going to be r4c (convex like a spacebar)?
2. Are the 1u and 2u keys in the spacebar kit going to be r4c?

I think that's how Yuri was designed.

Sorry, its been several months since this project has had any steam. I'm currently trying to get it onto a platform and hope I can soon, so expect some final revisions coming through (where I'll need everybody's advice on what to change as well).

As for GMK Hana, it seems like JTK is more likely at this point which imo is a good thing as their sets are high quality and relatively cheap compared to other manufacturers.

Stay tuned!

The nordic kit is missing a few keys for proper support of any european layout. You would not start removing keys from the dworak/colemak kit as a cost saving measure, so why would you do it for the nordic kit?

I guess the keys in the bottom line of the DC kit are scooped right? Could we have non-scooped version of these home row keys too?

The other keycaps I hope to change are those in the Ergodox kit(marked in red rectangles):

[attach=1]

It would be better if the legends are "Home", "End" in left hand side, and "PageUp", "PageDown" in right hand side. It follows the standard Ergodox layout just like the other parts of this kit. And change the R2 "Control" in left hand side to be "Tab". Just like what's in the Ergodox kit of SA Carbon R2.

Just saw this, this is amazing! Only needs 2 things;
row 2 ergodox TAB (1,5u)
row 2 ergodox Enter (1,5u)

Add those and I'm in! :D

Could you give more specifics on which keys are missing? I'm not intentionally omitting them, its just hard to get every key right in any group buy. Thats why it changes with almost every GB.

Well, if you wanted to have a full Nordic set, you'd have to throw in the first half of the number row:

SA Oblivion is an example of a set with full Nordic support, but it does mean a lot of keys:

The one he has originally is the version that is used by Nautilus.

The more complete euro kit looks like this (GMK Carbon used it so did the recent 9009 run):

The 9009 kit would be great. For 9009 there was a poll about it and about 80% of people preferred the complete kit versus the nautilus abomination.

I really like the windows and menu key substitutions from the flextras kit, all the coverage and the community child kit. My only preference would be for icon only modifiers but is obviously not a need. I'm happy that this is happening, feels like the first interest check for this set was so long ago! edit: Am especially happy its no longer in SA!

Some changes i've made (no pics yet):
- F, J, numpad 5 scooped and barred
- 00 key added to base kit next to alternate 1u 0
- H, U, N, T in colevrak scooped
- updated spacebar kit
- 2u shift in base kit
- redone hatsune miku kit
- moved iso cyan enter to nordic/euro set
- cyan arrow keys in electric symbols kit

In progress:
- moving EU/nordic kit over to 9009 format as requested
- switching ergodox to blanks like in GMK laser (I don't like the idea of forcing a layout in such a variable keyboard)

Also, I can't speak for everyone but I'd prefer to see a GB without MassDrop if it's possible, they are just not that great for anyone outside of the US and have recently been handling / fulfilling orders suboptimally.

I'm looking forward to this set and wanted to see how the alpha coloring would look, so I threw it into kbrenders.com for a quick render. I didn't use any custom legends and the coloring may not be completely accurate - I just used the GMK colors on keyboard-layout-editor - but hopefully this might give people a better idea of what the set would really look like.

Yeah that's a good point, its a real shame that it seems like any GMK set that gets ran outside of Massdrop seems to struggle with hitting the moq.

There isn't really anyone producing topre caps. GMK doesnt make them. Best option is probably to get sliders.

Over 500 votes for the base set, is this still the MD threshold?
I'm afraid because of the popularity of GMK Space Cadet and Serika that this one might be pushed back as a Massdrop ran GB. Either way, still rooting for this set as it matches my next board perfectly and would love to add it to my collection!

As I said on the interest check on Massdrop, as an EE student, I'd kill for this set. Not only is the color scheme exactly what I'm looking for, but this is the perfect match for me in terms of what I'm studying and plan on doing as a career. This keycap set not only will work great for the keyboard I'm in the process of building, but the electronic symbol set could be used to make a custom macro pad for the software I use to design electronics.

I still think this keyset has so much potential, Cyan Dolch colorways are one of the most popular for a reason and it's been a while since something like that has dropped. I gotta say tho, the novelties make this set whole/unique enough that I don't think it would be a problem to reach MOQ without Massdrop, just need to find a solid vendor.

I like this concept. Is there any future for this?

I would love to see the electronic symbols rounded out with a couple more logic gates, a resistor, and the transistor Esc moved into that kit. And more symbol mods!

An expanded version of the kit would do well in it's own GB if it were run in 4-6 popular colorways. Just a thought.

I would if I had more of a clue as to how to run a GB and more time. This would do so, so well under experienced guidance...

It's not a good time to run to GMK group buy, especially since there is a lot of "subtle neon and cyan" stuff in both IC and GB (modern Dolch, waves, calm depths, hammerhead).

Personally I think this would look good in another profile, but people love their GMK.

Definitely. Perhaps it'd be better if this was SA or maybe even KAM, MT3, or the new profile Novelkeys is coming up with?

The original design was SA which I've been following since 2015. I agree it would look much better and help it stand out against all the other subtle neon and cyan sets.

When is this estimated to come out? As an electrical engineer.... I will cough up he money and get my first GMK group buy.

Also... two things I would recommend. Although I’m new so it might be how it is for a reason.

It looks like the 1unit enter is R4... maybe should be R3? Also I feel like the colors should be reversed to make it grey on blue.

I am on board 100% with SA or even more so with MT3. But... following this since 2015... so it’s been in thought for four years? Aka never gonna happen. That’s too bad, I love when I can promote my hobbies with my hobbies.

Unless OP is around to give consent, most GB runners wouldn't dare taking someone else's design and just "roll with it". That's just rude.
And if they do dare, well better brace for impact when OP returns someday to accuse them of "stealing my hard work for profit".

And being as I want an electrical  semi conductor themed set to come out. If I were going to dknjr I would start from scratch and if would be done right. Probably has colors that match the build of my office and the set overall would look much more professional and adult as opposed to childish and Tiffany jewelry blue.

Well, it's been almost 2 years since I last worked on the set... I feel really bad about my inactivity, and now that I'm graduating college (finally) I want to get back into designing key caps.

I'm going to start with finishing up GMK Electric and getting it to production, as I feel this set deserves to be made.

I'm currently looking into what people have been doing for the past couple of years so I can modify my child deals to fit with what is most popular. It seems where I left off back in February of 2018 was pretty solid, and I imagine only a few modifications will need to be made to get to a final design.

Assuming designs are finalized over the next couple months, I imagine the set will enter production late this year. And the plan is still to go with Drop, with perhaps some other distributors as well for those outside the US.

Please, if you have suggestions for the kit, any key cap you want to see included, please let me know in this thread! (and please include your reasoning  :D)

Oh my! I'm an electrical engineering major and this is incredible. I love the symbols. My inner EE is hoping for stuff like an Op Amp or maybe some sort of BJT or MOS.  :p

Edit: I noticed you also asked for reasons, Op Amps and transistors are integral parts of analog electronics and power electronics as well. I also think it would be really cool if letters such as V, I, R and others that have a large meaning in electrical applications where highlighted. Maybe make the lettering blue in that case, or something along those lines.

The Nordic Kit is missing the Z for R2. The Y for R4 is included for some reason. That would make the Nordic Kit also fully compatible to ISO-DE, the standard german QWERTZ-Layout.

"Cherry sculpted profile (1-2-3-4-4)" is the "normal" one found on the G80-3000 i guess?
Did you decide on the material yet? ABS? PBT? Something else?

If you add the Z i might be in for Base Kit+Nordic. :)

Of course, the thing is that (at least in Germany) you pay the "Mehrwertsteuer" of 19% on products. But when you import something it's suddenly called "Einfuhrumsatzsteuer" and the sum of everything in that order gets taxed, including the shipping costs.
(And what's even more annoying, it's very likely you'll have to pick up the package from the customs office.. which in my case means a 1h drive and having to wait in line for ages, followed by explaining what the hell i ordered to a 60 year old bureaucrat that could easily be replaced by a chimp.) :)

Is it just me or is Alt Gr becoming more and more neglected? Really happy about it right now actually considering my economics, meaning very few kits are even interesting for me. But worried about the trend in general.

- Upgraded Colevrak to Colevrak+
- Added 1.25u and 1.5u "Alt Gr" keys to Norde

I was going to wait until kits were finalized to approach more vendors, so they should be decided soon. I think that the kits are pretty much complete at this point, so ill give it a few more days to see if anybody has any final suggestions.

How about adding an Electric blue Modifier kit?

I find the UN6037 pretty unique an popping! That could be cool.

I tested this out, and personally I think the dark gray is necessary to balance out the look of the set. With all blue modifiers it looks too light overall.

Hey, could you add R3 PgUp, R4 PgDn for 65%/75% users and change the R4 \| ISO key to <> so that there isn't a duplicate legend (ISO people really seem to dislike this)?

I also think you should change the Scroll Lock legend to Scroll, Num Lock legend to Num, and stepped Caps Lock legend to Caps, for consistency.

For the colors of the set being not so loud, I think the deskmat could be a lot more subtle, and I find it way too busy (even as an EE).

As the kit stands now, it has both R3 \| and R4 \| (this is called "PC style"). Konstantin is suggesting that you use R3 \| and R4 <>. Either option is fine, but the latter is preferred because it avoids having a "duplicated key" in the keyboard.

Sweet, glad to hear that.

As for the ISO keys, people have been complaining about the duplicate legends in those sets. It's better not to do it that way. Most sets actually use R3 #~, R4 \|, which is a bit better since there's no duplication, but it's still not great since it's an incomplete set of keys pulled out of ISO-UK (not that there's anything wrong with ISO-UK, it's just not a consistent way of going about things).

R3 \|, R4 <> is the best solution for basic ISO support because it:

R3 \|, R4 <> covers US ISO fully (4 keys), and the following layouts partially (3 keys): DE, DK, IS, FO, NO, SE/FI, EE, FR, BE, IT, PT, ES, AR/BO/CL/CO/EC/PY/PE/UY/VE. This accounts for 244 out of 503 votes from ISO-using countries (not counting US ISO), or 49%, but likely more since some of the layouts in this list fell under the Other category in the survey.
R3 #~, R4 \| covers the following layouts partially (3 keys): UK/IE, BR, MT. This accounts for 173 out of 503 votes from ISO-using countries, or 34%.
Layout info taken from farah.cl (http://www.farah.cl/Keyboardery/A-Visual-Comparison-of-Different-National-Layouts/).

And a really pretty one, too.

May I ask why you have 2 1.5u and 2 1.25u alt-gr each? Haven't seen more than one per keeb so far.

Design is hot!

Thank you!

For the colors of the set being not so loud, I think the deskmat could be a lot more subtle, and I find it way too busy (even as an EE).

That is totally understandable, as I was designing it I was going back and forth to whether I should leave empty space or fill the entire mat. Would you (and anybody else reading this) be interested in a "toned-down" version of the desk-mat? If so I could probably throw that together.

I can't believe somebody made a set with 1.5u shift! Awesome!
And a really pretty one, too.

May I ask why you have 2 1.5u and 2 1.25u alt-gr each? Haven't seen more than one per keeb so far.

Thanks for pointing that out, it is fixed now. Also, may I ask what you use the 1.5u shift for?

Also, thank you @konstantin and @depletedvespene for the explanation behind the duplicate key, I replaced it with the > < key as you guys requested!

And finally, I created two ISO enter novelties, and am curious what people think.

(oh yeah, I also removed the duplicate Alt Gr keys from Norde)

Good use of space on the ISO keys.
Dumb question. GMK Ursa had an ISO kit that...handily made MOQ 100! on the back of Paddington on the ISO enter, as Paddington was both unique to that child kit and also was a good icon for the ISO enter crowd. Is there any electrical symbol/theme that’s limited to or more prevalent in the EU?

As you may be aware, there are some differences between the North American (NEMA) and European (IEC) symbol conventions for passive components.

However, in practice the difference isn't that great, the two conventions are often mixed in schematics (especially for resistors), and many European engineers prefer to use the NA symbols (and vice-versa in some cases). A more detailed comparison chart is available here (https://www.eaton.com/content/dam/eaton/products/electrical-circuit-protection/medium-voltage-vacuum-circuit-breakers/comparison-nema-iec-schematic-diagrams-mz081001en.pdf).

However, I don't think any of these symbols are as cool as Ursa's Paddington Bear novelty, so how about using a more memorable symbol, like, say, a three-phase transformer? As a Nikola Tesla fan, this would be very cool to see.

Or how about a full bridge rectifier (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dtPEk73X9U)? I'm sure there are some ElectroBOOM fans out here.

Another personal favorite of mine is the Wheatstone bridge.

Actually a full bridge would be a really cool novelty, or maybe a simple oscillator or RC filter of some sort.

Those are good points on the symbols. I did notice that there are logic components on the novelties so maybe a logic gate for the big enter? Maybe one with a MOSFET which I believe isn't on the novelties.

Also, may I ask what you use the 1.5u shift for?

Blocked 75% layouts with u/4 delimiters all over the place, like the evolv 75% (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=104531.0) or my own design where I used almost the identical layout need a 1.5u rshift.
I think this creates an exceptionally homogenous look I haven't seen on most 75% boards so far. Sadly, there's almost no sets that include a 1.5u shift (that's probably the reason few designs chose this exact layout).

You can of course use a CTRL/ALT, but having a shift key would be nicer  ;D

I just took a look at the kits as they stand now.

The NORDE kit has the R1 `¬¦ key present twice (so one can be cut off) and the R4 <> key can also be chopped, as it's now part of the base kit.

R3 #~ (required for English (UK)) is missing.

I wasn’t in love with this set and I believe this set is why I made an account to comment. When the designer was inactive I thought heavily about making my own set that was themed around electrical engineering (my profession) but just never had time and always hoped this would come back.  I also watched GMK high voltage come and go and basically knew it was doomed from the start first from color and second from the price set by either designer or mono or some combination of both being dumb enough to think it’d work.

With that said. I am begging if you can in one of the kits provide 2 R1 1.5U caps. I used boardwalk and although legends will suck at least with 1.5u caps for R1 I can have keys to cover my boardwalk. Else this is just my dream keycap set that serves no purpose for me to waste money on. I’m only one person. I doubt it’ll happen but would be appreciated and I’d pay extra.

Proportions of electronic symbols are pretty flexible, so I think you could get away with making the leads thicker.

Yes, the set should be going to GB soon (TM). Might be a few more months with the corona delays on stuff.

And finally, a new ISO novelty enter, this time of a three phase transformer (thanks konstantin for the suggestion). It is a rough sketch, definitely not finished, but let me know what you think of the idea. It's so hard to make an appealing ISO novelty enter that uses the entire cap!

Also some small kit updates:
- Removed duplicate R1 `¬¦ key from Norde
- Removed R4 > < key from Norde (now in base kit)
- Added R3 "~ #" key to the base kit to support ISO UK users properly
- Added 2 1u R2, 2 1u R3 novelties to novelties kit for 65% users
- Added 1.25u and 1.5u "ground" novelties to novelties kit
- Removed some other novelties from novelties kit to lower cost (might have to do this again...)

I dig it!

Edit: I have a few notes on the current spacebars kit: I think four 6u spacebars is way too many (and I say that as someone who has 6u spacebar on several boards). Most sets usually include one, or at most two 6u spacebars. If you want to keep one, then it should be the gray, centered stem one. If you want to keep two, then it should either be gray, centered stem + gray, off-centered stem (recommended), or gray, centered stem + blue, centered stem.
The blue 1.75u space key can probably be removed, since that key is only used on a few 40% boards: Vortex Core, JD40/JD45 (requires two of them), so it's quite rare.

I think this set is pretty awesome. However,, there is something that keeps coming into my mind. It feels like it lacks “electricity” on the alphas.

Would have loved to feel the electricity all across the board.

Have you thought about trying the electric blue through the letters to see how it would come out?

Just another point of view =)

Hey also is a RAMA key up for consideration? Maybe an enter key with something like V=IR on it?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, I had a few ideas for RAMA. Namely, a metal enter key with the resistor symbol enameled, and a metal R1 1U novelty with the electric symbol (lightning bolt). I have yet to contact them at this point however.

These kits look really chonky. It's gonna get pricey.

Will there be simpler/less busy deskmats?

I've noticed this problem as well, I'm going to cull some keys and perhaps split up some kits to keep price down.

And I'm not sure if there were be any other deskmat options, the reception to this design has been very positive so far based on the Google poll. If anybody has some suggestions for a simpler design I'm all ears :)

I think I saw this suggestion in the poll and tried it out, it didn't come out very well IMO. Completely changed the feeling of the set.

Could we see the render by chance :)

Might be a cool alternate alpha set? Like an "Electric Alphas" option?

Renders should be done shortly, still touching up some things! Pretty hype this set. Setting a GB Slot for this will be interesting with a busy year.

Having a Colevrak kit for GMK is pretty unique nowadays and a drawing point for me, but honestly, I don't think I'd be willing to fork over the amount required for base + extension + Colevrak + novelties.

I wasn’t in love with this set and I believe this set is why I made an account to comment. When the designer was inactive I thought heavily about making my own set that was themed around electrical engineering (my profession) but just never had time and always hoped this would come back.  I also watched GMK high voltage come and go and basically knew it was doomed from the start first from color and second from the price set by either designer or kono.store or some combination of both being dumb enough to think it’d work.

This was supposed to say I was in love with this set. Not wasn’t. so I assume the no response means there will never be any R1 1.5us.... I would think novelties would be a good place for them or I dunno. Wish I could make this work on my boardwalk but sucks it’s coming back and I have to pass. So sick of GMK

I made a new deskmat design that I am super happy with!

I didn't have to remove any of the circuitry, but adding the different shades of color really made the mat feel less busy/cluttered. I hope everyone likes it :) (and feedback is appreciated!)

I'm sorry I didn't respond to your suggestion, I'm not sure if it is worth including R1 1.5u caps within any kit. It is quite niche, and adding two caps of that size is nothing to sneeze at, especially with potentially hundreds of kits being produced.

Looks great! Looking forward to the GB :)

Currently no date... getting the vendors sorted is proving to be more difficult than anticipated. I will make sure the GB happens before 2021, but that's really the only guarantee I can give at the moment.

But don't worry, it only means there is more time to get everything right, and find awesome extras/collabs! I'm going to be approaching many artisan vendors to see if they want to make an electric themed version of their caps, so hopefully by the time the GB launches we'll have an impressive number of options.

If you've been waiting years for this set like I know many of you have, just hold out a little longer, it will be worth the wait ;)

I had totally forgotten when I wrote that, that the mods are n9. I think from my memory there has been talk about changing some colors.... is n9 forsure staying? Just curious cause if so then I’m not selling my n9 ergo kits and saving them for this and will purchase a few sets

Yes, N9 is final. However, UN6037 will be changed to a pantone color matching the renders more closely (this will be reflected in the new renders).

PLEASE MAKE THIS A REALITY. or at least the escape novelty! there are literally zero miku "01" artisans out there..

IMO, just run this set that you have put in so much hard work into...

And then work on the next version which will be the new direction? No harm in doing both :)

How coincidental that as I'm about to post an update, people want updates!

To lead, I am extremely sorry to all those waiting for GMK Electric for all of the delays. I had promised this set would run in 2020 and that is no longer possible.

If you don't know, I'm trying to start my own mechanical keyboard vendor for the US, and it has been consuming most of my time lately.
Luckily, it has reached a point where I'm confident GMK Electric will be running on my own store  :D

As for updates: the desk mat has been finalized, and a sample is currently in the mail. Here are a couple pictures:

There are clearly some issues, such as the design being cut off at a weird place, and the most faded circuit being barely visible. This is why we get samples!

I'm in the process of updating my renders and applying a few last minute tweaks to the kits. Then, off to GMK it goes for pricing. Expect more updates in the coming weeks.

This set isn't dead! And if you've decided to hop onto one of the many similar looking sets that have ran recently, I don't blame you...

Big update today!

Please, if you have the time, go through the new kits and let me know if anything is incorrect/missing. As soon as I am comfortable with the kits it goes off to GMK for pricing!

Or put a 2.25u/2.75u in both extension and spacebar kit?

Some 40s use split bars, some don’t. Often the split bars in a 40s kit are the alpha color vs those in the spacebar kit are the accent color. I’ll defer to actual 40s users; only know 40s kit preferences because I buy split bars for any set I get.

I will just include an extra 2.75 and 2.25 in the spacebars kit. I don't think it will increase price by too much so it should be worth it to maximize capability.

I understand why some feel this way as it does slightly increase the cost for numpad users. But the increased affordability when this style fits a majority of people's needs makes more sense to me.

I think these changes will make it very expensive for international layouts (non UK) to just get the base language support (as you will have to buy two separate kits).

I don't like the new kitting.  If you want to break everything up into this many kits, then you're better off using a different manufacturer that doesn't charge so much extra to split things up.  This sort of kitting would be a better fit for a Keyreative set.

R1 "» «"-key is used in Portuguese keyboard layout.

Thank you, I will add this key back then.

I understand these concerns. It may be worth it to move base ISO support back into the base kit. I am going to get pricing for ISO in the base and out of the base to inform my final decision.

However, the numpad will still be left out of the base. If we can lower the price of the base enough to reach a $100 or $110 price point, then the extra $30 or so for a numpad kit would equate or be slightly higher than normal GMK pricing. Considering a majority of people only need TKL kitting, I think this makes more sense.

As for splitting novelties into two kits, I think neither will have trouble reaching a sufficient MoQ, so it shouldn't be too large of a difference.

Dark alphas are there to differentiate the set from so many other Dolch derivatives releasing in the past year, so I think adding this kit won't be an issue in regards to pricing either.

Having 10 kits with GMK can definitely be a bad idea if the set underperforms, but I have high hopes for Electric  :D I'm open to creative suggestions of course.

There will be different colors! I am simply trying to get the original design perfect before making the others so I have less adjustments to make :)

I personally think it's a bit presumptuous to go with the base with no numpad route. It's expected to be okay when the base kit is expected to sell north of 1000 kits, but I have a bit of skepticism for this case.

More importantly, if this set changes to icon only mods, I'm out.

I'm honestly quite hopeful for 4 digit kit numbers. Soon there will be pretty 3D renders and a full pricing + vendors list, meaning the set can begin proper hyping. Considering how long Electric has been in IC, I think it will pick up good traction.

And, I will not be changing the set to icon only mods. It is staying as text. Perhaps i'll consider icon mods for a future run.

Curious, is there a reason why the symbol keys and novelties are in two separate kits vs being combined into a single kit?

Mostly to lower the cost of the novelties kit, as it was probably going to be $70+ with the symbols included. Since not everybody wants the symbol row, I thought it would be a good idea to split them up. This also allows me to include more in the novelties kit without fear of making the price too high.

It’s not presumptuous to assume that you know so much that his keyset won’t sell over 1000 sets? You’re comment honestly sounds much more presumptuous than the notion of a separate numpad kit..... or that he should listen to your threat to not buy if icon mods lol. Just saying. (I assume most keysets with 7 pages of discussion and that’s maintained people’s interest for about three years lol would sell decent. Especially since big sets are now almost hitting 10,000+)

Sorry but no, that would also require icon only ISO enters which I don't have already. The entire set is staying text for the first run at least.

I hope we can hit 4 digit numbers, that would be great. But since i'm going to be running it on my new U.S store it has a little less exposure than it might with a bigger vendor. We'll see but I'm hopeful :)

In other news, I got the new deskmat sample and it looks absolutely amazing in comparison to the first.  Here's a pic:

ISO Enter isn't included in the base kit (only in the ISO addon) so it only needs to be switched for icon version. But then, it's all call. I just think ISO users are the ones who beg more for icon mods and this isn't even impacting the base kit and overall ANSI users.

Can anybody weigh in on this? I'd be willing to make ISO icon if others agree it is worth the added cost. However, I'm still not too fond of the idea because it breaks up the set's overall look.

Big update today with the "semi-final" kitting. This will be going to GMK for pricing and I'll only be accepting necessary modifications to the kits from now on.

Changelog 12/31/20:
Spacebars kit:
- Added a 2.75uC and 2.25uC key
- Moved 1.25uC from extension kit
- Added 2x blue 1uC
- Added a second 3uC

Extension kit:
- Added 2u R4 resistor novelty

There's nothing confusing about this. It's pretty stupid to give a symbol based kit an extra normal backspace and then claim it's confusing as to why it should be in the base kit. It's on par with GMK Muted R2 have 4 caps lock keys. You also include a blue enter and space bar in kit but somehow that isn't confusing?

The only reason why there's a teal backspace in the symbols kit is because it makes the whole Numrow blue, there's no reason to be agro at OP for this reasoning. The only set that I can think of right now that had a accented backspace in the base was GMK Honeywell R1 & R2.

Why would it be in the base kit? Accent backspaces aren't a thing.

You are suggesting forcing the cost of this alternate key *made to accompany the symbol row* onto anyone who buys a base kit. Sorry, but you are the one being stupid here.

I put it in as another option if people don't want the resistor on their backspace. Somebody suggested it in the IC form and I thought it was a reasonable idea.

It's like $1 per kit. Get over it dude.

Pretty big update today. Decided that moving ISO back into the base was in everybody's best interests, but there are also tons of other minor changes I made. Thanks to acitrin and jae @ prototypist for helping me out :)

Please give me your feedback if you notice anything that could be improved. I'm going to give it a couple days before I send these to GMK, then they will be locked in as the final kitting.

I’m an employee at the Canadian vendor for this set, AlphaKeys. Rest assured, this set is intended to run soon. Vala has been super busy behind the scenes working on this set, as well as expanding his new US vendor, Vala Supply. Don’t worry, there will be updates!

I'm just waiting on GMK now, hopefully everything is ready to go and we can finally get a GB date decided.

I love that desk mat design, looks great!

Thank you!

This is very promising <3

Any chance for dark Alpha NorDe? I know I a m asking alot but this neon on dark color scheme seems to be missing NorDe support most of the time.

I apologize but that won't be happening :( It's simply too hard to reach moq even on a single norde kit for an alternate coloring to be tenable as well.

GB when?

We are looking at August or September.

Quotes have been received and 3D renders are in progress! Renders, pricing, and a solid GB date should be in by the end of the month :D

IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING BOIS

Group buy date and final vendors announced!

Regional pricing will be updated as it becomes available.

Collabs are in progress. If you want to make a collab for GMK Electric, hit me up on Discord! (Vala#9001)

Also happy to show off the first 3D render of many by Izeri. His work is top notch and I can't wait to share the rest :D (its 4k btw, zoom in)

Are you sure the argyle is by Alchemist Keyboards? According to its Interest Check thread, that is not the case https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=106255.0 (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=106255.0)

» « is from Portuguese layout, please include it as well!

I'm /in for this, but I also agree on the "icon mods" like many people said. If you end up not changing it to icon mods, at least complete the ISO addon with the icon mods instead (4 more caps only) :thumb:

I will add the Portuguese key, don't worry c:

Hi Vala!

I've noticed that the »« key is still missing on the first post. This is a mandatory Portuguese cap, which was present in all Nordeuk sets:

I hope it can be corrected with GMK in time for producing ;)

I have to say that the dark alphas look much better than the grey ones. It seems that whoever did the latest renders did too — I suggest that a version with the actual base kit is used for promotion otherwise it feels a little like a bait-and-switch.

That key is present in the current NorDeUK kit, 4th key on the first row.

These are only the very first of many renders to come. It just happens to be showcasing the Dark Alphas since I thought it suited the Argyle better. There are nearly 40 more renders on the way!

Thank you, I tried my best to keep the US prices super low. It's certainly a benefit of being a designer and vendor at the same time!

Any news on the 40 more renders? I'd be going all in if the base kit looks as good as the dark alphas. Glad to see a kitting options with two full backspaces which rarely happens.

The GMK Electric group buy is live as of today, September 6th! If you're outside the US, please give a bit of time for each respective region to go live, should be within the next 24 hours.

I will be updating the Geekhack thread fully and making the GB thread tomorrow, as of now it is outdated.

The product page has the renders with the V4N4G0N, which uses the base/light alphas.
