So my Dad made fun of me for bringing my own keyboard to work and then proceeded to say that he couldn't imagine there being that many keyboard enthusiasts out there. Boy was he wrong haha. And I'm not even that bad. I've yet to spend >$300 on a keyboard so I'd say I'm pretty novice when it comes to collecting. This thread isn't really going anywhere, just thought it would be something off topic to throw here.

ROFL I hear this all the time.  The sad thing is the statement is pretty true if you look at the overall population.  The statement should be "I can't imaging that there are that many people that hate typing on mushy garbage," but it would still be true.

I am consistently getting a "That is one old-school keyboard" or "That thing looks ancient!" whenever someone sees my 103u. The poor uneducated people!

EDIT: Forgot to say that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm a keyboard missionary, here to convert the membrane using heathen.

A good comparison might be shoes.

There is a keyboard under my fingertips about the same amount of time as there are shoes on my feet.

Some people wear plastic junk shoes all the time, and some are very particular about their shoes.

I wear bad shoes more often than I type on bad keyboards.

“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Good point. I had a coworker try mine. All of a sudden he bought a mechanical keyboard a week later.

I recently posted a keyboard on my schools selling and buying Facebook group. I put up a keyboard for $70 and the first comment was "lol at you for trying to sell a keyboard for $70". It had like 8 likes. The next comment was defending mechanical keyboards and the fact that someone will appreciate it, which also had like 8 likes. Then like 4 other people jumped on to defend mechanicals. I was quite happy to see this haha.

It's not any worse than people who collected Beanie Babies or other worthless junk. At least a keyboard has a function.

A lot of mechanical keyboards are marketed as "gaming keyboards" - just so long as mechanical keyboard enthusiasts are not just labelled as "rabid gamers".
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

my wife actually openly admits that she prefers my keyboard. Not hard when she's on a scissor switch dell laptop keyboard that you have to brutalize to get to type what you want.

Someone at work came in with an Apple style chiclet keyboard today to replace his normal keyboard . I was disgusted. However, he was on to something. If you are going to use it for 10 hours a day, might as well make sure it is one that at least feels nice to use.

I agree with that last part, but those Apple Chiclet boards are the worst keyboards I have ever typed on.  They hurt my fingers after 10 minutes and I'm not that heavy of a typist.

Nothing beats the good feeling of cup rubber. Unfortunately I've been relocated to the edge of the office, completely unrelated to keyboards, but I guess it's a good thing because now I can clack away and (almost) nobody is around to say anything :D
