[IC] SA Magic City | Dixie Mech | SMALL BATCH OPEN
« on: Thu, 17 January 2019, 20:57:26 »

My hometown of Birmingham, AL is known as the Magic City because of its growth from 100 citizens to 250,000 citizens in just 12 years (1865-1878). This set is a dedication to the place that raised me and made who I am today. The soft cream and the nearly black charcoal are representative of the long history of hard and gritty work the city is known for. The red is taken from the state flag. Together these tones create a very strong and balanced palette that will turn any board into a conversation piece. It is not flashy, but just a solid set that will go on any board.

Doubleshot ABS by Signature Plastics

SP stock colors:
CREAM - TBT
BLACK - TAA
RED - RDD

SCULPTED 1-1-2-3-4-3

We have compiled a single condensed kit instead of the traditional separate kits, in order to try to keep the cost low. We are shooting for a GB price under $160.
Please use the link below to fill out the interest check and give us your thoughts.

UPDATE 5.8.19
I have been convinced to resurrect this set. I will be back soon with more details.

UPDATE 5.9.19

Alright everyone. Lets do this.

This form is basically going to act as a commitment to buy SA Magic City, but without purchasing just yet.
I don't normally do things this way, but I would like to see how many people want to purchase so that the first purchase is the correct price and no refunds are needed. So please do not fill this out if you do not want to purchase.

After everyone fills the form out, I will probably invoice each person individually.

There will only be one kit with decent compatibility to keep the price lower. Im kind of personally placing an MOQ of 75 on this.

Once again, only fill this out if you are interesting in actually buying SA Magic City. The purchasing will probably actually take place at the beginning of June. So this isn't an immediate thing. This is just a commitment to purchase.

See more photos at https://dixiemech.com/samagiccity
^ Some legends and colors are slightly wrong in the renders, but the stock colors are listed and the base kit shows the legends that come in the kit.

I like it. Even better that your set has true meaning to it & represents AL which helped build you up to who you today. Just based off the meaning of this set. I will join your GB when it’s live. Again, great job, sir!!!

I like that you have a theme behind the set and its colors, and there is a real life story behind it.

I have thought about doing some text novelties. No icons though because I would like to keep the cost down.

I'm interested.

The render uses keys that aren't in your kit (backspace/code).

Wouldn't mind seeing a 1u R1 backspace and stepped caps lock added.

Any thoughts on doing an ortho mods kit? I know you want to keep costs down. If it doesn't hit MoQ, it just doesn't get made. Anyway, as said before, great colors! I'm in regardless. ;)

This colorway didn't go far before, but I'm guessing it was not lack of interest but lack of progress by the IC runner.   Seems like a very classic colorway (Led Zep did well, too).

Your render seems off from your other images, to me it matches this SA 1965 set a lot - any way you could render with a paler alpha?

Great looking set! I'm from Alabama and went to undergrad in Birmingham--I'm in a much bigger city in Texas now but still miss B'ham a lot--great place. I pretty much have to buy this set. Not speaking for everyone, of course, but it would be awesome for the box to have a cool graphic design relating to the city--maybe the skyline or a map of downtown? Would be very cool to see a few novelty keys as well...I'm thinking a Vulcan and maybe the state flag. Anyways, great idea! I'm looking forward to it!

edit: just saw your post about no graphic novelties. Low hanging fruit here, but "War Eagle" and "Roll Tide Roll" would be nice for us SEC fans. Of course, there could be trademark issues with that. “WDE” and “RTR” could work.

Wow. I've been in Birmingham since 2010. I'm sure I'll be moving on at some point with career stuff but this would be a great keepsake from my time in Bham. The city has grown and developed like crazy since I moved here. Also there was a meetup.com group trying to get together every month which just recently died and I felt bad that I hadn't had a chance to check it out when it was up and running. Very cool to see this and totally surprised to see a Birmingham, AL inspired set.

Maybe a BHM key too. I know you said no icon mods but the thought of having the vulcan's butt as a novelty cracks (pun intended) me up.

It makes me so happy to see how many people who have a connection Birmingham in this community. Because of that I will probably add some text novelties like BHM, AL, and ill have a DIXIE key. I am working on getting some photos of my color chips next to other caps from similar keysets, to show the difference in the swatches.  I am working on getting some updated renders with more correct colors and correct renders, as well as an updated kit render.

Thanks for all the interest and tell your friends to fill out the form! Especially you Bham people!

Love you all. :)

Here is a photo of the SP chips I have chosen. I took the photo with natural light and have color corrected them the best I can.

Here is a vector representation of some other sets that are similar for people to see the differences. These colors may not be color perfect on your screen, but it will allow you to compared the tones of each.

This is a nice looking set.
I even have SA 1965, and while similar, I would still consider getting this set.

I hope a colorway like this comes out for the MT3 profile someday, though.

Unfortunately, this set didn’t get enough interest for me to feel comfortable running it trying to achieve a 100-150 MOQ. I would possibly do a smaller run if enough people are interested in that. So just voice your opinion if that is something that you would be interested in.

Frankly I'd take this in a heartbeat. It's gorgeous and fits a black case in a really particular way only SA sets do.
