Keyboard of the Month 2016 - January Vote
« on: Mon, 01 February 2016, 03:37:43 »
The first vote of 2016's keyboard of the month is here! We had some good competition this month, with entries from December and January both included. I think we've got a very nice collection of boards this month, and it's down to you guys to choose the winner!

First up is Bromono's RealForce

As he has sold it, but he is the creator of the board and it's theme, so that is why I have credited him with the board.

Next is hwood34's TGR Jane with black on black Cyrillic dyesubs

More pictures can be found here

And lastly we have idollar's FSSK

More pictures are here and the thread on Deskthority can be found here

The poll will run for seven days as always! Good luck to all!

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Voted - this one wasn't too difficult for me :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I shall choose wisely!  :)

Do you mean KOTY or KOTM November?  Both were incredibly difficult to pick from, haha. I was happy to see an option of three votes for KOTY

If I ever were to vote for a Korean custom as KOTM, it would be a TGR Jane. Such elegant simplicity. And those Cyrillic legends look great.

That said, dude hacked apart an SSK and turned into an F. That's Keyboard of the Month material.

The Model M works by pressing two sheets of thin plastic together with a small "hammer" The sheets have been printed with conductive material to form the keyboard matrix. The Model F uses a capacitive PCB which comes into direct contact with the switch hammer for a crisper feeling action that is almost universally regarded as superior. The Model F's biggest problem has always been a lack of usable modern layouts, which is why this conversion is so exciting. From a technical standpoint it's just an impressive achievement for an individual.

Yep, I was definitely pulling for idollar on the Deskthority Award category for Best Input Device Project 2015, but he did have some pretty steep competition. Hopefully he gets this win. Though I was kind of derped and voted for Bromono's former board here, which I do find super rad.

idollar is definitely deserving of a win here!

Congratulations to idollar and his FSSK! A worthy winner, and a fantastic project!

Commiserations to Bromono and hwood. Both had great boards, but sometimes the competition is just another level!
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
