This post doesn't need to be here also.

Replies 190 to this one (with the exception of #197) could be completely gone, and the thread could resume with no hiccups.

IBM 1370477 2-13-95.
This is also a full bolt-modded board done by Phosphorglow. Blue Label, Blue Underlay.  It is sweet!

I *really* need to do this to my SSK. Paint the plate and then add some LEDs like Phosphorglow does. It looks so cool.

Even different coloured LEDs in the top right panel makes a huge difference to a Model M!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Works fine. Just FYI, you can also test out posts in PMs. Just make a blank PM and then hit previews. You could also not use the more tags. Personal preference.

I think more tags should be applied when a post exceeds 5 images. For instance, 5 images looks fine on the forum, but 20 or even 10 is pushing it.

I have a idea. Stop worrying about it and move on. A good way to do that is by posting more BS boards and less about how you feel about your posts. They were fine. Might have been nice to consolidate those ten pictures but whatever. You got some suggestions. Time to move on. Let me help this thread along. Here's what my SSK looks like right now:

They are!  I have a 1394604 that I converted and my nephew is using it while his 1391401 is being repaired.

That one has the APL keyset from Unicomp on it.  Nice keyboard!

Just got this back from the powdercoater.

I'm still deciding on what keycaps I want with it and figuring out how to program the DPH (when I installed it, the Xwhatsit wasn't 100% working with the 107)

Hmm... Guncoat gray? It's a pity I'm broke right now... Because now I'm set on getting an 107... It looks beautiful.

Or a Beam Spring... But that monster of a keyboard weights almost 6 kilos. It costs a small fortune just to ship it overseas...

I wonder how the 107 compares in weight to a beam spring? They're certainly no lightweight, that's for sure.

I think 107 is about 3 or 4 kilos. But any BS board is clearly bigger and heavier.

It was a dark grey basecoat, some custom metallic flake I picked out and a matte clearcoat. It's really cool how the grey changes with the angle you look at it. as always the picture does not do it justice. I got it painted at the same place that CPTbadass got his kishsaver painted and Mkawa is getting the smallfry titanium painted. Unlike what CPTbadass said, the pricing was really good! I think he's just a cheapskate. :p

B - What wasn't working with Toms controller?
I forget exactly what, but there was some discussion about it on the DT thread if I recall correctly. Since programming the DPH is like impossible I might switch back.

I just weighed things.

Interestingly enough my heaviest beamspring is my displaywriter with a plastic case: 5300g
I also have a fullsize 3278 KB that weighs 4700g
The 107  key weighs in at 4600g

So you can see it's on the order of a beamspring, the 100g difference is very hard to notice.

I didn't weigh my TKL 3278 beamspring but i'm sure it's lighter than my 107-key.

Here's a model M that I'm shipping off to Canada for a very nice GHer there. This was the board I used to write my bolt mod guide

Some people like the green "alt" keys, but on this KB, the blue shifts are crucial.

IBM 50-key (model M version) and IBM unsaver. The 50-key has been hacked to be programmable and also work on USB.

My current desk setup. The ultimate IBM Tenkey paired with the ultimate IBM TKL.

Yes I have a kishsaver (and the model F 50-key) but I prefer the unsaver as a TKL. When I finish my kishsaver I'll give it a shot.

Eventually I'll get an SSK to pair this awesome 50-key (now 47) with.

I picked up this beauty from Craigslist for $40. Probably the least expensive purchase I've ever made for this hobby.

This is like my next ultimate goal.  Find some sort of IBM keyboard locally (as in my town).

Thrill of the hunt.  Always very rewarding.

It feels great! I was coding for hours on ends this afternoon and no trouble at all.

When I first got it, it was really dirty. A good teardown and cleaning revealed no broken rivets, but I still might bolt mod it because I guess it makes a difference either way. We'll see...

I lurked Craigslist for three months. The kid selling it had received it for free from his instructor. But he was just a kid and he wanted the cash.

Incidentally, he was using an M2 which he had disassembled and replaced the blown capacitors himself. So he was a smart kid who knew his stuff. He actually kind of made me want an M2. Not much love for them around here, though.

Very nice.  I am one of the people that have m2 love.  With that being said they are a ***** to work on so mine is sadly sitting around due to some issues.

Yeah, the kid told me what a royal pain they are too get open. But a low-profile BS board is pretty appealing, IMO.

I suppose it would!  I never really thought about it.  *laughing*  Speaking of ironic....
This is a post e29 had in the SSK section:

Here's an example on a fullsize that ended up being branded an IBM but used that style mold for the case:

The irony! I actually purchased that keyboard.  I didn't even realize it until after the purchase.  If that was a random pick of a picture by him....
I believe I need to clean that thing up!
Edit: The seller had the ;/: and the =/+ keys in the wrong place.  I had to do a double-take.
Yep.  Same keyboard and picture.

Based on what I've seen here I may paint the barrel plate on my M. I like the simplicity of the black, but it's a bolt mod so I figure I could do more.

Be very very careful and not paint the barrels themselves!  Put masking tape over every one of them!  It's worse when you paint them, and then have to remove the paint from them!
Or you could just order a keyboard underlay from Phosphorglow.net for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the tip. I've seen that mentioned before as well. Those underlays look like a very convenient way to go. Thanks for the link.

Not much love for them around here, though.

Lots of people like the M15 which is based on M2 technology with the integrated barrels/topcase and the smaller keycaps.

The M15 is a hard to obtain keyboard, but it is the only BS ergonomic keyboard.  It's pretty cool.

The M2 is difficult to repair and hard to find parts for.  (Usually from other M2's)
Edit: I have never got the hang of using a soldering iron well and have destroyed more than I fix!
So maybe it's just me, but I have really been unsuccessful with them.
