okay i have calmed down a bit... obviously its unfinished e.g. no blasting or anodizing but boy is it pretty

I don't mean to be weird but would it be at all possible to get a case bottom milled out of foggy trans polycarb?

Its a little late in the development process for that. Stay tuned though cause I have some surprises in store  :thumb:

Really no need for a half plate with switch cutouts  :p  but if thats really your style then you could always produce one yourself!

Might have to! I just love the feel of PCB mounted switches for my alphas.

You have to remember we are dealing with companies that manufacture items for profit. In order to get costs down an item needs to be made in quanity. The more options, the fewer made, the cost either goes up or the company refuses to make the item because of the number. Making acrylic bases, half-plates, plates of different materials - increases the prices or prevents the items from being made. I know Duck does it but believe me manufacturing in Korea or China is not the same as in America. Everyone should be impressed and thankful of all the work DrHubblePhD has done on the design of this board and the coordination between him and the machine shop. I've been helping and this is the third shop we've worked with and seems to be one that will make us a good product at a reasonable price. They want to make the board and they are working with him and myself to make it affordable. I am simply "the grunt" doing the legwork and facilitaing communication - the others have done the hard stuff. The design has been tweaked subtlely to reduce machining costs and looks great. I have fielded a question or two about areas on the top plate such as around the escape area and you will notice the metal is unfinished there and shows some machining. Once it's been cleaned up and sandblasted it will look even more awesome! Be patient, we are getting there.

The prototype really shows off that back slant, really gives me a look that the render didn't.  I might be giving this a go when the second part opens up if I have the money :)

Damn, Doc, you really know how to really set things off with a bang. This is probably one of the most hype group buy launches ever. Wish I could've gotten in on the initial 57, (didn't really have the funds then, but don't really want an unnumbered model either) but hey. This shibbit is so swagalicious though, good gawd. I'm loving the tees and hoodies!

I'm actually in the market for a new jumper and it's surprisingly hard to find nice, plain ones locally here.

Might pick up both the shirt and jumper to be honest.

Can anyone confirm the level of quality of these tee spring shirts/jumpers and provide a comparison or even RL pics of similar products purchased from them.

I'd just like to make sure they aren't selling crap.

And what are the sizes like? Accurate? Are they fat sizes eg. L is more like XL?

I don't mean to take this off topic but I'm sure I'm not the only curious party.

I have funded teesprings in the past and the shirts and sweatshirts were super nice. I'm sure you can find some other opinions just Google searching as well.

I am going to call them on Monday to talk to them about that.  Last time I mentioned my target price they told me it was likely that I would hit it.

Two out of the four shirts I have bought from teespring have had the transfers fade really fast, after like 5 or six washes. I think those were the printed ones rather than the transfers though, so these might be ok.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

My wife works in shop that makes these all the time and I actually called Teesprings about the shirts. The t-shirts are a soft cotton and will shrink a little if put in a dryer so either hang dry them on a hanger or go up a size. I'm going to do both because I'm fat.  :-[ The hoodies will not shrink and the sizing is accurate. Both are good quality, ccotton just shrinks.

Note: now that this amazing prototype is making the rounds, your order quantity may exceed 100... assuming you're still willing to expand the group buy to meed demand.  That may affect order prices.  Just a thought...

Im still very shaky about doing that though. I don't want to devalue the secondary market for the Mira just to boost units. I will balance the options when that times comes and will be sure to check with everyone who pre-ordered to make sure they are okay with increasing the number produced (assuming units over 100 are not numbered).

It could mean lower overall cost per unit, right?  If that means hitting a lower price tier, that would be enticing enough for some of us.

Personally, I don't care about secondary market value, as my board will not be sold. Reducing the purchase price is very attractive to me.

Exclusivity shouldn't be a reason to not drop the purchase price. It's kind of a **** move, especially if all the 100 places are taken already.

Well its not just my decision is what Im saying. Some people care very much about exclusivity and their opinion matters just as much. I will also say that all 100 spots have not been taken. Im just trying to be considerate and fare.

Also realize that I have to package, ship, and potentially solder all these boards! Thats a huge time commitment and im not sure I can handle 150 units

I know that hojin has options of presoldering, but that might not apply to your PCBs. If for some reason you don't have enough time for any soldering I would be willing to help in order to take the load off of your hands :)

So, what manufacturer ended up producing the case? It could be a great resource for US based projects having a manufacturer with experience in custom keyboard cases. I'm sure many would appreciate the info!

Unfortunately I can't reveal who the manufacturer is.  They have been already gracious enough to accept such a strange order and I would hate for them to get flooded with half serious requests from the keyboard community. If anyone would really like to use the same shop they can contact me and maybe we can partner up to get it made!

Alright why don't you leave that up to ninjadoc, who did the searching for you, to decide.

I'll ignore your rather aggressive tone, since I'm not sure what about that statement made you so angry.

I think it's rather fair for me to ask that people for now lay off this shop that for all intensive purposes doesn't do productions runs this small. If you have a problem with that you can talk to me directly, cause I don't need Ninjadoc to know what constitutes a sound decision for the sanity of everyone involved.

As a friend of ninjadoc who talked to him quite often, I feel you don't respect what exactly he has done for you. Rather then "partner" up to make more money off of people, why don't you stick to your word like assembling hwoods board instead of delaying it for two weeks without even messaging him, rather then pretending to be a saint, why don't you just pay respects to who they are due, rather than pretend nothing can happen without you. Aggressive tone? Why don't you be more thankful that he found the place for you rather then monetizing it?

I'm not even going to address most of this cause I think it's just plain obnoxious. But if you think I'm attempting to monetize anything here your sadly mistaken. I will be making almost nothing off the Mira and any partnership that I would do with someone else through this shop would just be to help set things up. I helped Hwood with his cf lx, I have already created many parts and pieces for an upcoming Virgo board for frosty toast. And did I ask for any monetary gain? No. I have offered many times to many people to help work with them in CAD and even provided free assembly services for quite a few people.

I have never pretended to be a saint, but when you say I don't appreciate the people who helped with this project I take it personally. I put their freaking name on the weight on every freaking board. Is that not a sign of gratitude.

I don't get what you and your posy want from me but it certainly isn't anything human, cause humans make mistakes.

What the **** is happening in here?
First off, what the hell does Hwood's keyboard have to do with the organization of this group buy? That is an entirely separate matter.
Hubble did indeed credit Ninjadoc by having his name engraved on the Mira weights as well as printed on the letters. I don't know how else he was repaid, however I know that other contributors such as Zeal and I have been treated more than fairly by DrHubblePhD.
I find it amusing how you chastise Hubble for his "unfair" gratitude of Ninjadoc while not showing recognition for Hubble's work.
In what way is he pretending that nothing can happen without Hubble? It's blatantly obvious that this would not have existed in the first place without his work.
It is without question in poor taste to scorn someone for monetizing their own work; this is what seems to be happening here.
You have no idea how much time and effort this man has put into this project. Do you really expect him to do this for free?
For god's sake you can at least show some gratitude for one's efforts by giving them your patronage.
