Hey DrHubb -- The envelope that I received had #29 on it.. your spreadsheet has me as #28.

Which is correct?  ;D

The spreadsheet. He said just above that that the numbers were bumped by mistake when printing them out.

Thanks for posting this Dr. Hubble - happy to have a single digit number if I can't have 42 :D! Do we need to do anything on our end?

Zelios are pre-ordered, Hyperfuse caps are shipping soon & soldering kit is at the ready... can't wait until I start working on this badboy next year or whenever it happens  :thumb:

Probably that no one picked that number and since you were part of the original 57, but couldn't get any of your three choices, you were assigned that sad face number.

It could be that the person who got that spot didn't pay on time.
I have no clue though to be honest.

So I'm listed here as #10, which was one of my numbers.  That makes me happy.

Do we just ignore the number we were mailed if it doesn't match this spreadsheet?  Nevermind, I see that you confirmed that in an earlier post.

Sweet, I got my number 24 after all. Got 31 in the mail.  Thought this was quite weird since I put my submission in 5 second after the opening and put in numbers which I gathered wouldn't be the #1 choice of most: 17 - 24 - 32.  At the end of the day I'm not too concerned about a number under the keyboard though :).

I agree, it's just a number (I can say that because I don't have one). It would have been so much easier for the Doc if he just assigned the number in the order the orders came in (and went up to 100 :) )

I don't think it's fair to judge others for what they assign value to. There's probably some meaningful item/idea/tradition/etc. in your life that is utterly trivial to me. It would be rude of me to be so dismissive about it just because I don't derive meaning and value from those same things.

EDIT: It also strikes me as odd that this kind of attitude would show up here. This is a keyboard enthusiast community. The vast majority of people couldn't care less about a keyboard, because after all, it's just a keyboard. Who in their right mind spends hundreds of dollars on one, let alone multiple keyboards? Sounds a bit ignorant, doesn't it?

I wasn't judging anyone.  People can assign meaning to whatever they want,  and like I said,  it's easy for me to say because I don't have a number,  and you're right,  this is a keyboard community,  I get very strange looks for my hobby.

What I was clumsily trying to articulate,  and I'm not trashing people's value in their number (I would have wanted 64,  hence the second half of my comment), was: this is a pretty bad ass keyboard,  the case looks awesome,  so I thought that it would be nice if the  focus was maybe more on that.

That's all.  Sorry if I offended anyone,  that was not my intention!

Didn't he mentioned that in the op already when the pre-ordering began. It is said that only the first 57 will get their assigned number engraved on the plate. The rest will still receive a letter from him, but their assigned numbers won't be engraved on the plate.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates recently I have been super busy with a wide variety of things.

Just spoke to the shop and they said the board should be done with anodizing by this Friday so I should have it to me sometime by the end of next week.

ON THE TOPIC OF COLOR CHOICE:

We spoke about the options that we could have for a run of this size. What he said was that for anodizing choices he is pretty limited ( E.G. Grey, Silver, Red, Blue). What he also told me was that if I wanted to offer powder coating we could do AS MANY COLORS AS WE WANTED, even one offs. So what might happen (I am of course interested to hear your opinions) is that I will offer a few basic anodizing colors with the option of having ANY COLOR YOU WANT in powder coat. What he told me was that the shop could do a very high quality powder coat that is actually MORE ware resistant than anodizing (essentially would be much less likely to show small dents or scratches). So up to you, but I think the ability to have essentially any color would be cool.  :thumb:

I'm addressing this and hopefully will not tick DrHubble off with it. First the board failed to give me notifications about new posts and I missed this discussion.

The anodizing issue is as much if not more my fault on relaying information about it and the issues involving it. I was trying to limit information flow through one person but DrHubble is busy beginning school so I will step in.
The anodizing companies are big bussinesses and usually do industrial items. Most don't seem to be interested in doing relatively small jobs and don't particularly seem concerned about providing a good finish for appearances. Color choice is limited by what they offer and by the set up cost to do the anodizing and for color changes. Oddly enough , to me anyway, grey is the hardest color to get a good product and has a variability from piece to piece - so top and bottom would not be the same color - like happened with the KMAC.  Consistently of color, risk of burn marks, poorly anodized areas, and the method of placing the items in the tank is an issue. For instance - the company that did the prototype used clamps to dip it in the anodizing tank, resulting in clamp marks.

Did he describe his powder coating?  Is it like a Duracoat or Cerakote process?
This goes back to notifications from the board. I thought this was off the table and ignored it when brought up by the shop. I had a piece of metal that was powdercoated and left it in the shop because of this. I also didn't ask any questions about the process - "they stated any color could be done" BUT I can guarantee it will not be that simple. As for metal flake powder coating, someone post a link or PM me a link because I suspect that is not an option. I didn't ask about the process because  I didn't feel it was relavant. Obviously it is.I also will have to learn more about powder coating so I can ask intelligent questions.

I will address numbering in a separate post.

I can't call tomorrow and I'm unaware of DrHubble's schedule so it will be Tuesday before I can relay any information but he may be able to.

So are there any numbers past 57?

I initially heard that there was going to be numbers > 57, but you wouldn't be able to choose, then I heard that there's not. I would be totally happy to get 64 ;)

Through my discussions with Dr.Hubble my understanding is there will be no numbers after 57. That may have changed but at this point i wouldn't expect any other numbers.

Yea. Would have been nice to know if any where actually reserved so people would understand.

Also, I go back to what I said  previously. I'd want to know how the numbers were assigned. Were they given out as orders came in? Or was everyone taken into account and then distributed accordingly.

I'm sure this will be revealed eventually

Myself and Frosty have both donated time and money to the project. I've been amazed at the effort required to organize and get things done but it is understandable because it is business and they want to make money. Frosty supplied money and and time and contacts to make the PCB happen. I've spent time calling and submitting plans to shops, going over plans, discussing with DrHubble, visiting shops, and meeting with them to get the product. I paid for the prototype, and them was reimbursed after the preorder so we could get it done.

I never thought there would be that big of a deal about numbering. I can't speak for Frosty but when numbering came up, I asked if i could chose mine, thought about it a while, and gave him my number. I apologize about the uproar it caused but give Dr.Hubble credit, he allowed you to have input in your number; any other group buys that were numbered you simply received one and you had no idea what it was until you received the product.

Like many, I have been following this project from the beginning. I have a place in the first 57 and also have conflicting numbers which I don't care about. The only thing I want input on is the finish. If anodizing is out, I would like Cerakote, DLC, or PVD as an option. Powder coating is a great tough finish for surfaces that may suffer from minor impacts.  But as the finish for my luxury keyboard (luxury for me) that will not be in harms way, I feel it will make it look too utilitarian. I may be wrong. I have been plenty of times in the past. So maybe samples would help. Particularly pics showing the edge and mating edges.

Thanks for the follow-up.

If you're comfortable offering a "no finish" option I think some of us can arrange for their own coating on the case.  I hadn't considered Cerakote as a keyboard finish in the past but after looking into it a bit further it seems like a perfect option for this high-end exclusive board.

You're absolutely right.  I just got caught up in the hype train and was disappointed when I didn't get the number I was expecting from my letter.  You did a good job putting it into perspective  :D I've since gotten over it and am excited to see what happens with the prototype and color choices!

If it's possible to get a discount on an unanodized but finished (I mean texture surface preparation) case, I will get my case anodized locally.  I want an uncommon color in any case.

Gray anodize can be made more consistent if you do a bright dip first. Bead blasting & bright dip are how Apple gets their anodized parts to look like they do.

Boards after 57 will still be numbered. I spoke with our contact and discussed powder coating, so Ninjadoc and I will look more into that to provide you with more information. Otherwise, thanks for that update Ninjadoc!  :thumb:
