Does anyone know if there are any pre-order (1-57) spots remaining?  Is there a list somewhere?  Is the pre-order even still going on?  Mira could be my endgame TKL.

Thanks.

The first 57 have been taken:

But i'm pretty sure you can still make a pre-order.

And i also feel like someone was trying to sell their spot...

Is this board still happening?

There is a glitch in the production that I've been waiting for DrHubble to address which is why I've said nothing. The bottom line is the shop has increased the number of boards to make is an unreasonable number of custom keyboards to purchase.  Hate to put out a number but they wanted us to commit to 200 cases.

I'm not sure about the rest of you but I've always wondered why no one in CONUS has made a custom keyboard.
I can tell you why because I've spent endless hours calling, talking, taking keyboards to shops, and spent money on having things done to my own keyboards to find out the quality of work that shops do.

Prototypes - shops charge up to $2000 + for a prototype here.
Several seemed interested but were concerned with quality control and interesting enough payment.

Case - I'm surprised at the cost to make a case. I won't go into actual cost but the number cases the shop requires puts the cost near the 6 figure amount- i.e. Less than $100,000 but more than $50,000. The more complicated the case, the more the machine time, the higher cost. Interesting enough you would think all the curves make the Mira expensive. Those are not the main thing that increase cost-bevels, the hole for the USB cable, the PCB mounting - those are the issues. DrHubble made a few design changes that I haven't seen yet

Coating - you would think large shops would just mp on a simple job like this but the profit is not there.I've found two shops that anodize that would do the job - one has a good reputation, the other bad. When I think of anodizing I think prep the surface, anodize it by dipping it, allow it o dry. That is not even close. Apparently it is a 25 step process for this shop.
Cerakote was a interesting option but interestingly enough the color chips are far from the actual color and the board of mine scared him off and costed him to much. It was more than 3 times the cost of anodizing.

Powder coating - one shop I was sent to as horrible. It is a process done usually on larger items and is done by people who aren't particularly careful with the item. The exception is the ones that do car or motorcycle parts but they have all the work they can handle. I've had a board at a shop for over a month with no word back.

I'm posting to save this and I will then edit it to finish.

Doing this on my iPad is driving me insane!!! I can't edit the other post due to either the iPad or a physical issue I have! 😡

Finish- I always though bead blast or sandblast the case and be done. Not always true. They are both done with a wand and even though it will look like it is evenly done you can get streaking and uneven colors - especially with anodizing but apparently even with cerakote. I was referred to a shop by the anodizer that is used to do finer parts that appearance is important.
Plate - the plate cost was included in our estimate but if you check various group buys they usually cost around $35 to $50 dollars.
PCB - the Korean boards are the cheapest but you have to develop a relationship with the maker and there is the issue of making sure the plate matches, and find a cost point along with getting permission to use their PCB.

Shipping - the cases would have to be shipped to the finisher, the anodizer, and then either back to me or Dr.Hubble for sorting, shipping, and quality check.i didn't even check this cost but I guess I should along with making sure they were packed well going to each location.

Profit - I've heard the murmurs about DrHubble doing this to make money and that's it.i can assure you he would make little if anything on this. None of this can truly subsidize this to lower the price and I can assure you I'm loosing money on it no matter what happens.

OTD - newbies may not know what I mean but ask LZ and the Jane group buy organizer( sorry I would butcher your handle right now). They can ban you from Korean products and make it hard or impossible to get a PCB.

Time - DrHubble has design time, PCB time, talking to the shop and machine operators to get the CAD files in a usable state and try to make compromises and changes to reduce costs. I have no idea my time or Frostys but one day I spent 4 hours on the interstate going to one shop - that was one way. I can't tell you about Frosty or Zeal's time.

I've probably left something out but this gives you of what's required to get a custom keyboard done in the states. When I get back to town I will talk to the shop again and start calling others to see if another shop is interested. Jigs are a cost to make and I might even try to buy their jig if it will reduce the cost at another shop.

If you have any questions please post them in this thread. We are trying to get this board produced despite all the roadblocks.

Was the shop 4 hours away in Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh Foundry is supposed to be pretty awesome. They can do end-to-end production on the case as far as I know.

Still haven't got my envelope.. lol

The envelopes were sent out incorrectly and as a result they have stopped going out.
If you want some sort of document there is a possibility we can produce certificates of authenticity. However, I do not make any promises that this is currently happening.
Is there any chance of that sheet being updated as different spots end up being sold, etc?

If anyone has any order changes please contact me.
Hubble is currently busy and may not get around to updating the spreadsheet.
If anyone has transferred their orders, even if you have contacted hubble, please send me a private message.
This way I can update the spreadsheet for you as soon as possible.  :thumb:

Orders coming after the initial 57 will not be listed in a spreadsheet yet.

Giving up my spot (from the looks of the sheet #54). If you're interested send me a PM.

Spot no longer available.

I believe I have yet to see messages from a few people who have given up their spots.
Please contact me, even if you have already contacted Dr. Hubble.

You must understand that this confusion of numbers will only make things more difficult.
We do not want to send the wrong numbered boards to people.
Mistakes with letters are easily fixable; keyboards are an entirely different story.

I also need whoever has spot #57 to contact me. I do not have your GeekHack username.
@Monotagary: I have you down for two spots. Please contact me with details about this matter.

I cannot edit the OP, but the spreadsheet that I will keep updated is here

First, I want to thank all the individuals from Geekhack that have offered help in one way or another to get this keyboard built.
I have two shops - one I'm reasonably sure can do the board and I need to talk to the other one.

Please send all orders and changes to Frosty so we can keep the records straight.

I believe 37 should be me, not ATXTider, if I'm not mistaken.

I hope this comes to fruition. I get all the setbacks, and I'm so glad you guys are working hard to get this done. The reserve money could be mightily used for me right now, but the number I have reserved is very personal to me so I'm afraid I'll stick it through to the end!  :thumb:
