I like the idea behind "Integrated." I think it could be a really cool GON-esque design.

Project Syttifem "Fjord"

Project Modulært

Haha, I see what you did there... I'm more interested in Project Sekstifem to be honest ;)

How affordable is Simple?
I try to make everything affordable but that isn't possible with something like the FJELL.

I'd say under $180 for now.

I'm all in for the FJELL HHKB if it ever happens. The FJELL as it is will be used for a project that can easily be adapted and even more suited toward the HHKB style case, since my aesthetic goal is for an HHKB layout with high pro key caps (Alps, of course). I'd be overjoyed to own the HHKB version.

If that happens, I'd probably pass the original FJELL to someone who really wanted one and take the HHKB version if it proved to be more suitable for my idea.

That said, all of your case designs have nice concepts, Leandre. Your "modular" project is something that I'm keeping my ears perked for too. :)

I wanted to do the FJELL in a HHKB style, but LeandreN hinted he had a project in the works for HHKB layout but I didn't expect it to be a FJELL as well. I'm pinning my eyes to this tread.

So excited. I really like the Simple one as well, will that have a brass weight too?

Yes the case will be top mounted :)

Glad you like the simple case, to keep the price down, I don't think it will have a weight, however, if that is something people really want, I can work on adding it.

Honestly, that would be a reason for me to go back to a Topre board. I used to have a Novatouch, which was okay, but the upstroke clack was too annoying. Then there was a meetup, where I could try the FC660C and the HHKB 2 (Pro and S), which felt much better. I really dislike the FC660C with the odd design choice for those 2 extra keys on the right side, but the Type S was very pleasant to type on.

Do you already have a rough estimate on how heavy one of these cases are going to be?

would adding 2 additional screws in the center of the long sides give it additional support or make a difference? I heard the main problem with top-mounted plates is the "pinging"?
Regardless I am still very excited to see this one happen!

I don't think that it would matter in this case, as the plate is fully supported on all sides. What could be done is to add a thin rubber gasket all around that would kill even the miniscule vibrations. Or just use a thick wooden plate for superior acoustics and feel.  ;)

In some ways it makes sense. But I would probably buy more than 1 of both fjell if they didn't run at once... harder to do if they run together. I doubt I'm alone lol. Or people who want both but can only do one at a time. Even just confirming there will be R3 would work for some people I'd imagine.

Hello!

Some updates.
I have gotten a ton of emails and requests regarding the FJELL Group Buy, from you here and even other vendors. As of now, I can't handle enough orders to please everyone.
If I can find a vendor that is able to handle FJELL orders, I will be able to go that route. I will make sure it is safe for every participant. Manufacturing will go through my factory anyway. Everything will still be LeandreN style with Mekanisk branding, but it would allow me to have better fulfillment for more cases. This might change later, as Mekanisk grows.

Also, the simple case is ready for mass production very soon.

very nice, sir.  I'll take 2 simple cases and 2 Fjell when they are ready :)

One request for you... can you put a standard 60% PCB and plate in it?  I want to see the gap between the edges of the plate and the case.  The one popular case on ebay/alliexpress right now is very nice, but it has a lot of extra space once you put a board in it.  I'm hoping yours will be a tighter fit

Hello!

Some updates.
I have gotten a ton of emails and requests regarding the FJELL Group Buy, from you here and even other vendors. As of now, I can't handle enough orders to please everyone.

Great news! You know I like the Simple case a lot! Do you have some photos also of the bottom?
Regarding the vendor I only hope he is EU friendly  :thumb:

Awesome to hear these updates.

If I can find a vendor that is able to handle FJELL orders, I will be able to go that route.

Is the idea that, to start, the future vendor would run the FJELL orders as a group buy as well, or instead seek to do a run of some cases and then put those up for purchase like a regular item (and rinse/repeat)? Just curious.

Also, congrats LeandreN on the success and growing popularity of your work -- well-deserved, as your cases look great (and from the obsessive reading I've done of comments from folks that received their FJELL cases, everyone is very pleased with the results).

I see a lot of people putting material in the bottom of metal cases to dampen the sound, but that doesn't actually do much.  What really changes the sound and feel is where the PCB meets the mounts.

I've always though about trying to source some different disc-like materials to go atop of the M2 screw posts to dampen the harshness of the metal case.  I was thinking a dense foam or medium density rubber, but I would want to experiment to see what sounds the best.

Have you ever tried anything like this?  If you could include them as a customization option (like people sometimes do with rubber feet), that would be awesome.

Fjell is still the top case out there in my opinion.

P.S.
I'd really like to see more acrylic or polycarb plates on the market.  I see that you are selling off some extras that you had.  Any chance that you'll be getting more in the future?  As you may be able to tell by now, I'm all about the feel of the board.  It makes me think twice when I switch from a nice custom with alum case back to an old quickfire rapid and realize the quickfire rapid actually feels nicer to type on :(

Actually, putting foam dampers into the bottom of the case will absolutely change the sound signature, assuming the foam layer is thick enough to touch the pcb. And even if it doesn't, it will make a difference if you're doing this modification on a lightweight plastic case which will reduce reverberations and resonation within the empty cavity

I agree with all of this.  However, I'm looking for a better "feeling" experience, so I'm less concerned with the sound than I am the feel of the board.  Dampening the case doesn't change the harshness of the vibrations you feel when you type, at least not that i could tell.  I've tried with 3 different aluminum cases now, and nothing seems to work without addressing the points of contact between the PCB and the chassis.

It was just a suggestion for a simple extra that might be awesome if it could be done on the cheap. I figured he would have access to materials and manufacturers that could make an oddball part an easy find.

First priority now is making the Klippe case available. I might also run a GB myself for them.

My next will be to collaborate with a vendor on the Fjell classic and the Fjell pro.

1upkeyboards.com will stock them at the MSRP $179 in some weeks. These will probably sell out fast. I will then look into starting a group buy for them.

I think the Revo one might be a bit thicker and higher. By that I mean that the slope might start higher than the Klippe, or even higher than the Fjell.
It also looks like the wall-profile is a bit lower(shows more of the keycaps, even switches, see M65-A (http://i.imgur.com/fcmGGsr.jpg)) than the Klippe case will. It looks like it has more border between the keycaps and the case walls, but it is difficult to determine.

It has no middle support, and less PCB supports than the Klippe.

Aside from that, it is a bit cheaper, has a more unique finish and colors.

Yeah  :( I can't sit a lie I'm not disappointed that again a product I love and waiting for a long time it's sold first in US ... Buying it from US would mean either finding a proxy in order to get cheaper shipping and ditch the import taxes or ending up with a nice extra 50-60$ in shipping and taxes ...
I guess I will have to wait EU turn and watch US guys post nice photos in the meantime.

very nice, sir.

I too am very eager to find out about the fit. TEX 60% cases seem to be the tightest fit possible (outside of top-mounted kits/cases obviously) but they are hard to come by - atleast in the colour I would prefer and without incurring taxes (if bought from mechanicalkeyboards.com).

Any chance we could get a sneak peak of a fully built keyboard inside a prototype "Klippe"-case once you get a hold of one?

A few photos have been already posted with full builds, just look on the first page  :thumb:

Also you must take into consideration that TEX can be tight because it's  a low profile case, with the same clearance but in high profile TEX would have problems with keys rubbing the corners.

I am pretty sure that reececonrad - much like myself - was thinking of actual close-ups of the (potential) gap between plate and case. And while I acknowledge your point on the low-profile part, none of my keycaps (I've tried various sets; Cherry, OEM, DSA etc.) protrude the edge of my plate. Meaning, that if I look top-down above my board I can always see say 1 or 2mm of plate regardless of keycaps. So theoretically, if the case were to sit flush with the case, I don't think there should be any clearance issues. I might be wrong, though. Furthermore, my current Pok3r-type case (Vortex aluminium cast case) has a larger gap in the sides than the top and a larger gap in one side compared to the other. So this mostly seems to be related to poor quality assurance/alignment when making the PCB mount holes or just that cast aluminium isn't as easy to get just right/precise as CNC'd aluminium cases. In either case (no pun intended), I'm still curious as to how this will look on the Klippe.

So to specifiy; I am requesting close-ups of the alignment of a plate within the case and pictures of any (potential) gap there might be between plate and case. So most likely a "nude" (picture of a fully built keyboard without keycaps) taken from above would satisfy my query.

Not really an apples to oranges comparison. Tex case are low profile. This is high profile. You shouldn't really see the plate gaps even if there are any. It also gets down to what plate/pcb you use. The mounting holes may be the same but the rest isn't.

First, a Red simple case, now a Red FJELL? LeandreN, you are amazing. Does this mean FJELL HHKB Pro will be made in red as well?

I'm so excited. I hope I'm able to get a Red FJELL and Red FJELL Pro when they're released. Thank you for adding Red to your line up! I'm gonna have to get a purple and grey one too!

Anybody know if the fjell cases are compatible with the XD75re pcb and plate? An ortho fjell would definitely be an endgame for me

Fjell 75% hasnt been made yet, as soon as I get those 75% standard measurments it might happen.

I believe the xd75re is a 60% ortho pcb. I’ve seen it put into lambo 60% Case

This case should fit any standard 60% size pcb as far as I've read so as long as the mounting holes line up I don't see why not

Aaaaaand sold out .... I was really excited about the Klippe case and even with US shipping I was considering getting one... the way 1up handled this is really disappointing. Even with newsletter subscription I never had a chance... TFW you click on a link only to see there is nothing there.
Now I’m really #SaltyEdgelordFk

Congrats LeandreN for making such a good looking and popular design  :thumb:

I know the feeling, when you are a kid and have nothing else to do but to stick on forums and watch TopClack it’s easy, but when you work and have a family, kids you expect a newsletter to be enough.
I must be getting a bit too old to keep up with the dynamic of this hobby ....

Something leaked on reddit/Top Clack whatever that is ...

I think it goes without saying that I would be willing to buy someone's case, (and of course, overpay) should they need some cash.

Will someone please tell me how they found out about this?

I don't see the big deal here? It was launched in a US store, and at a good US time. Entirely fair.

As they're stocked, I imagine the numbers are decently lower than everyone would like. Not everyone can get one, so don't take it too seriously.

More Klippes will be made, just be patient.

Sure, I am not disputing that it wasn't launched fairly, I am only curious as to how they came to be on the 1UP website.  Such as, were ppl notified via an email, a new thread, or an existing thread, or just happened to stumble upon it at 1UP??  I tried several times to enter Mekanisk's blog, but it was password protected and all attempts to gain access were unsuccessful. I never would get an email with the password.

Yes there are improvements, the walls are a little thinner, the case is a tiiiny bit lower and the weight is new, while maintaining the same classic cutout on the bottom it has a larger and new top design.

Awesome! Sounds like you've been hard at work :) I'm kind of moving towards 77-key layouts so I don't know if I can justify getting the R2, but I feel so tempted... Love your work

I am working on setting up a shipping solution, and deciding which places the GB will be available from, depending on other vendors ability to order.

Let's say that it will be targeted heavily at people from Europe, since 1upkeyboards will get their new stock at the same time as the GB starts.

Norway is part of the ETA, and because of that import duties should not apply. You will need to pay VAT of course, but the VAT rate in Norway is very high at 25% so paying local VAT instead is preferred anyway.

What ya mean. The gb won’t have a single case limit and 1up is supposed to restock. From what I understand it’s supposed to be a stocked case.

1up had 25 that sold out in 90 minutes the night before the email was supposed to go out. You can't buy them as of right now until they are restocked or a group buy happens.

I had one in my cart, contemplated the purchase too long and it was gone.

That's what I mean.

Regarding the GB, it's a little bit delayed. I will be launching the EU GB as soon as 1upkeyboards have their new stock.

If you are doing the EU GB, who will be doing it for the US (1upkeyboards)?

Well, you have requested the availability in the EU. 1upkeyboards have already placed two orders with Mekanisk on Klippe cases to supply the demand in the USA. Hopefully a combination of them stocking up and me having a GB for EU will benefit all of you. (maybe GB for Australia and parts of Asia if it is interest), however, my DHL deal is a little complicated.
At the same time, I don't want to disturb 1upkeyboards sales in the USA and Canada, they have great shipping deals for those areas and they have ordered more cases.

Will 1up have all the colors? Or just Black Grey Purple?

Hello Everyone,

Just a quick question. I wasn't around for the Fjell R1 but I'm fiending for a purple Fjell and want to wait for R2. How does the purchasing of a Fjell case happen? Was it/ will it be a limited run where I'm hoping to get lucky? Is it an open GB? I very much want a high quality purple Fjell but if the chances of getting one are low then I believe I will aim at getting a purple Klippe.

Thanks for any help,
Funkybeat

As far as I know, Round 2 will be a group buy again but without limited quantities.

Ok awesome! I'm okay with waiting a while as my wallet needs to recover haha. But I very much want a R2 purple Fjell to pair with Violet Tendencies GB so an unlimited quantities Fjell GB is the optimal choice for me. Great work btw I hope everything else is going well in life LeandreN!

Sadly it’s either sold out as stated or not live yet.

That was fast, I just updated the site.

Klippe has never been available on Mekanisk.co, it says sold out because they are not available to order yet.

There will also be a section where you can buy them straight out of the store with immediate shipment, if there are any left. This includes other parts as well.

Don't worry, there will be a newsletter in advance!

Well, if I have it in stock at Mekanisk.co in the future, you will be able to buy it to USA, however it would be more convenient to buy it from 1up.
Preorders will be a little different, however nothing is set 100% yet

A Fjell Classic GB is definitely in the scope for this year.

First there will be a Klippe GB. Possible also GON PCB if there is enough demand(high moq).

The GB will be run through Google forms possibly, that would make it cheaper than running it through my site, however I will have to see what is most practical in the end.

TEX Yoda II's to be sold by LeandreN

Is the Klippe price change from $179 to $220 intentional or a mistake? It was previously "on sale" at $179 instead of its normal price of $220 - but that seems to have changed.

I guess 220 USD is the price for retail orders (https://mekanisk.co/collections/store/products/klippe-1), while 179 USD is for the upcoming GB (https://mekanisk.co/collections/pre-order/products/klippe).

Random question @leandren. I’m getting a couple custom colors on my Noxary 268 which is going through the same factory. Any chance you could run a few Klippe with my parts in the same anno batch? No reason to bother with purple since you already offer one, but I’m also in theory getting cyan and magenta parts. Cyan would be nice, but an actual pink Klippe would be awesome. (Or is the color you are selling now actually magenta and not purple). One of the other people is doing British racing green as well which could be sick.

I can't control anodizing batches like that, however I will take stuff like this in my mind and see if it is possible to color match or something when the time comes.

Will the Fjell Pro be case (sandwiched between the two layers) or top mount? In this render it looks like a combination of both. Case mount held in place with rubber would be really nice (see the Keycult TKL No. 1 keyboard).

And is there a timeline for the Fjell Pro groupbuy? Nothing specific just to get a general idea (e.g. 2nd half of 2018).

I noticed the Klippe is back on 1upkeyboards for anyone who needs one.  Blue, purple, and black.  Blue looks sooooo good but I'm holding out for a Fjell in that color.

Please consider black PVD (ideally matte) options for the brass plate and weight on the next run for the Fjell Classic/Pro LeandreN.
