I'm confused10 SIP sockets, not pairs, so you only get 10 SIP sockets, so 5 pair
SIP Sockets $0.69 per 10 is 10 pair or 5 pair ?
If I put an order in and want to change the amount will I simply have to resubmit the form?Yeah, but put in your whole order each time you update, makes it easier
Thanks for doing this. :thumb:
On the form, how do I specify which SIP sockets I would like?I did not have both when I made the form, let me fix that
On the form, how do I specify which SIP sockets I would like?and fixed! Sorry about that!
What the difference between the two sip sockets?Zeal's do not have the plastic sheathing and are a bit longer, easier to use IMO, I like them more, but the other ones are the mil-max ones in plastic shipping.
What the difference between the two sip sockets?
I've since changed to a different type of SIP socket from what you've purchased. My individually removed SIP sockets have a ~5mm long soldering tail.sethk_: Do you have prices on the SIP sockets yet?I think so. They are pre-separated from the plastic sleeves, so they are ~13c each. I personally like using these more and don't mind the premium since they are pre-separated.
A little disappointed on the SIP price. They are available ~8c each on mouser when you buy 10 just units (64 pieces each). The little sleeves pop off easily with flush cutters, not that much of an inconvenience imo. I'm still in for a big order of LEDs though!
EDIT: Forgot to acknowledge that the Zeal SIP sockets are slightly different than the MillMax ones on mouser. Both have worked great for me though, no preference for one or the other.Yeah, 0.170" solder tail would be good... I've used the ones with 0.125" solder tails and they don't protrude from the PCB, so soldering them is tricky.Milmax ones have a solder tail that's roughly 4.3mm. The ones I stock have a 5mm tail. :)

These are just LEDs, not the matching resistors, right? Are the voltages named in the IC so I can make a note of what 'size' resistors to get? Since I'm hoping for some of four different colors.I have personally found that 830ohm works for me for any LED colors, but I am probably retarded for doing it and probably screwing something up. Winkeyless uses these same LEDs and he says that for a 60% board, 830 is fine for any color.
(so ... much ... pink)
I have personally found that 830ohm works for me for any LED colors, but I am probably retarded for doing it and probably screwing something up. Winkeyless uses these same LEDs and he says that for a 60% board, 830 is fine for any color.830 ohms is high enough to guarantee that it'll work with any color. That's why I asked for the specs of the LEDs (still waiting), so I can calculate a lower value resistor to increase current/brightness and still don't fry the USB port.
It does not say, but winkeyless uses the same LEDs, so maybe you could shoot him an email http://winkeyless.kr/product/1-8mm-led/I have personally found that 830ohm works for me for any LED colors, but I am probably retarded for doing it and probably screwing something up. You mean I cannot use any color LED I want or fry my Race1? :-X I go check my Race1 spec ...You can, you should be fine, but look at the specs just to be sure. I am not the one to be asked about ohm as far as LEDs go, I just solder it in and hope it works
But white color should be fine, right? Cos it originally is white led.yes!

It does not say, but winkeyless uses the same LEDs, so maybe you could shoot him an email http://winkeyless.kr/product/1-8mm-led/Nah, a 5V power supply, a multimeter and a decade resistance box are all I need to discover what I want. ;)

That's pretty much what I already calculated, but you know that The Real World™ isn't always so mathematically predictable. And the values changes when you are dealing with more LEDs. Like a 78% keyboard that some Brazilian guy is designing. :PIt does not say, but winkeyless uses the same LEDs, so maybe you could shoot him an email http://winkeyless.kr/product/1-8mm-led/Nah, a 5V power supply, a multimeter and a decade resistance box are all I need to discover what I want. ;)
Or just a multimeter that can measure diode voltage. You can pretty much assume ultrabright LEDs will have forward voltage drop of 3.5V, except for reds which might be as low as 2V.
If you have a keyboard that powers all LEDs in parallel (i.e. one resistor per LED), start with the max current you want to supply all LEDs.
Let's be conservative and choose 400mA, leaving 100mA for powering the microcontroller.
Divide that by the number of LEDs. Let's say 61 keys for a standard 60%... so 6.55mA per LED.
If you were using ~3.5V forward voltage drop LEDs (e.g. white, blue, green, etc.) then the resistor value would be: R=V/I = (5V-3.5V)/0.00655A = 229 ohm
However, if you wanted to be compatible with LEDs with forward voltage drops as low as 2V, then do: R=V/I = (5V-2V)/0.00655A = 458 ohm
Therefore, something like 470 ohm is a good choice for a 60% keyboard, and be compatible with white or red LEDs.
Reversing the math, white LEDs would receive 3.1mA and red LEDs would receive 6.3mA.
Now, if you were ONLY going to use LEDs with forward voltage drop of 3.5V (i.e. never use red LEDs), then you can use something closer to 229 ohm, so the LEDs get closer to 6mA each.

Does anyone know if these LEDs will work with the 470R resistors on my GON?

Are you planning to invoice us after the GB window closes? In a day or so
Thank you for running this. I look forward to being buried by piles of LEDs.
Need moar yellow orders plz ;D
sure!Need moar yellow orders plz ;D
That's not a bad idea. I forgot what I ordered, but I don't think there were any yellows at all (?). Hey Seth can you add a '2' (20 LEDs) to my order?
I'm gonna order after this weekend! Wait! Wait for me! :DIt's open for ~3 more weeks, so you have some time :D

Can we have pictures of the LEDs when they are light up?
Sorry, one more question, Which one has longer tail which is easier for newbie me soldering? MilMax SIP or Zeal SIP? Thanks again :)Zeal one is easier!

I have some 2x3x4 LEDs and they are interfering with my gmk caps. Do these sit lower? Anyone had experience with these and cherry profile?these are only 1.8mm tall, compared to those which are 3 or 4mm tall. I don't have any issues with these w/ my GMK / Cherry sets

Does the 10% discount cover the total quantity including SIP sockets or only LEDs?Only LEDs, I am not getting any discounts as far as SIP sockets go.
When will invoicing start?when it finishes on Aug 8
Reading the GB seeing the sockets are not pairs, can you bump me up from 150, to 200 on the milmax sip sockets?sure
Reading the GB seeing the sockets are not pairs, can you bump me up from 150, to 200 on the milmax sip sockets?Everything is actually ordered in 10x. So do you want to order 500 of each LED and 2000 SIP sockets, or do you want to order 50 of each and 200 SIP sockets
Total count, I am looking for 500 of each LED, and 2000 sip sockets. So 50 and 200 on the order page. (Makes my order something like 200-250 dollars right?)Yep, just checking!
Stocking up to do some bespoke builds for friends/friends of friends.
Is there going to be any further price drops depending on the number of orders reached? There is a 10% discount built in if you order more than 1k LEDs, no price drop on Zeal SIPs, and it depends on how many mil-max SIPs are ordered
I've ordered over 1k leds and sip sockets. Will I get 10% of on both sip's and LEDs or just LEDs?Just LEDs.
I never got my invoice?Going out Sunday, the day it ends.
Sethk_,
I just submitted an order. I an not sure if I made it in, it's current early morning of August 9, pst.
Let me know, thanks!

did we get an updated price on the milmax sips? They will be .85 per 10, so still a good bit cheaper than the zeal ones.
Hey Seth, I still have yet to receive my invoice. I'm pretty sure I put a form in. D:I only sent out a few so far.

Are all of the invoices sent out? I'm still waiting on mine... :(
Same here :(
I can't seem to pay my invoice, I keep getting:I will fix it, thanks for letting me know.
"Transaction cannot be processed because the invoice has been updated, canceled, paid, or closed; contact the merchant for more information."
You may have to re-issue mine.
Small note about the re-invoicing, in the future it may be better to just send out additional invoices for the difference. As it stands now, I have paid it twice, and while the first transaction will most certainly be refunded (I got the PP notification already) it won't actually be credited back to my account for 5 days. Not a big deal, but something to consider for the future.Didn't know that. The way it works for me, I have to pay fees when invoicing. So you would actually end up paying a little bit more.
Thanks :)

And all invoices have been sent out. The sooner you pay the sooner I order everything. If you want to cancel, do not be scared / embarrassed to message me. If you are cancelling, do message me ASAP so you don't make us wait any longer. If you need to pay at a later date, PM me and we can work something out.

Thank you for arranging :)I will make sure to communicate this time, I didn't do a very good job towards the end of the stickers, and I feel bad about that.
Sorting time is as long as it takes, but please do communication if you find yourself running behind (as I'm sure you would) :D
Good luck!
Order was placed then? Thanks for putting this together! :DYeah. The money for the LEDs is clearing into my checking account, so they should be paid Friday, I paid for the SIP sockets from Zeal, and they are coming today because of DHL, and I am ordering the Mouser ones in a few days.
Was a datasheet for these LEDs ever made available? I'm going to be putting these in a winkeyless build and he recommends much higher ohm resistors than what was posted earlier in this thread, on top of having a bunch of RGB LEDs to support. I would rather shoot for low brightness than high brightness but I'd like to know why the difference seems so big.I have worked with a lot of his boards. I use the same LEDs that he sells. Go with his OHM recommendation.
Just wondering - are the yellow ones actually yellow yellow, or maybe orange yellow?I can take some pics tomorrow when the rest of the 5 LED colors come. I hope that they are actually yellow, and not orangish-yellow like you are saying. I have had yellow and orange LEDs next to each other before, and they have actually been yellow. They were also 1.8mm LEDs. I am excited for these to come :)
Since I've been using my Ducky Shine 3 Yellow Edition, I've come to believe that the LEDs in it are actually orange. Not having any orange LEDs to compare with, I'm wondering.

Regarding sorting, I will be doing LED-only orders first, then work my way through the SIP sockets. I honestly have no time estimation, but I will try and sort for ~1 hour a day at least, and then get those orders out in the mail.
LEDs came today, but in unmarked bags....
When I start sorting them I will have to test the 40 bags I have for which color they are, but that won't take too long I hope.
Any updates on when orders will be shipped? =)I made a post above about what is being sorted first and what not, but I am doing LED-Only orders first.

I think I need extra white leds to add on to my order. Got some extras?
Having the LEDs in hand, did you have a chance to see whether the yellow is really yellow, or whether it is orange? It seems to be an orange yellow :(

Been quiet around here, any update on the shipping progress?I finished labelling all of the bags, the sorting process has started!
The higher resistance means you don't have to think about what you're doing, so long as you don't mind fairly dim LEDs in certain colors.
No Ika no datasheet was ever made available but I'd like to reiterate, as politely as possible given I'm hyped for these LEDs anyway, that it'd be nice to have "official" number from the manufacturer.
Speaking, Sethk_ of "working with his boards" I posted a question in the FingerUp/SK thread that maybe you could answer? About building an acrylic case out of steel, or aluminum.
6 weeks since the last update :(
Is this on schedule?
6 weeks since the last update :(
rEr, 3 weeks since the last update (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=73443.msg1868272#msg1868272), only 6 posts above yours :p
And sethk_ said he hoped to have them sorted in 2 weeks, perhaps it took a week longer. There are many to sort.
Sorting is taking a lot longer than I thought. A member on GH offered to help me sort them, so I am sending him 1k of each to sort to start. I didn't account for 40k LEDs, and another 10k SIP sockets. My brother who was supposed to help me sort backed out on me. This also isn't my day job, I have school to go to, which comes before Geekhack, sorry.

Thanks for the update :)
School (and other Real Life (tm) situations) should always come before GH.
Communication is key though - as long as you let us know what's happening, everyone should be happy :)

It has been two weeks since I last posted asking for an update. Not only have I posted in this thread, I have emailed and sent a PM, but I haven't heard anything back. I've also offered to help sort. I'm not saying everything has to ship at once, I wouldn't even expect that to be the case, but I'm getting concerned that nothing is shipping at all.

On October 17th i've open claim with paypalThis makes me very unhappy, but thank you for the information. I will consider taking similar action if there is not movement (real, tangible, provable movement) in the next few days.
I did that because Sethk_ was always saying he had no time, while he was playing around on GH.

After reading his post i messaged him trought paypal resolution center, saying that i want to be refunded.
He said that it wouldn't be possible to get refunded, and that he would send my order as soon as possible. He also asked me to cancel the paypal claim, wich i didn't.
One week later he said that my order was sent, but he couldn't show me the receipt due internet connection problems. Again asked me to cancel paypal claim, wich i didn't. Here i began to suspect he was lying.
Another week later, he linked me the receipt image. Once again asked to cancel the paypal claim. The "receipt" was a printscreen with my name, address and date sent. Obviously that proofs nothing, and my suspicion grows.
Asked for a tracking number. He gave a number that was invalid. On that time i was sure that he lied to me, just to get the paypal claim canceled.
Told him to not bother sending my order.
On November 1st, tracking number showed "Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS" with the date "November 1, 2015". I thought ,what a coincidence, just one day before paypal claim finishes.
On November 2nd, paypal refunded me.
The tracking number is still "Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS"...
I really wish that you get your stuff
I was the user that Seth mentioned was helping out with the sorting. Back in October he sent me a package with about 5k LEDs for 10 orders. I sorted it out and sent it back to him. So the LEDs do exist, but I don't know anything more than that.

For the record, I don't think he intended to have this happen. I think things just kinda got away from him.
Have you ever tried to browse GH on a mobile phone?Yes, I browse gh on my mobile phone all the time. Perhaps even a majority of the time. Every post I've made for the last two days, including this one has been done from my mobile. Not Tapatalk either. I use Tapatalk for notifications, but not for posting.
I have - it's horrendous!
And Tapatalk is a piece of crap these days. A tablet would be workable, but a desktop computer is best.
Email on the other hand has a simple but fairly workable client, at least on my mobile device.

I definitely get this response and am at least partially sympathetic - hell, I don't want to sort 50k little bits of plastic either. But what I also kinda don't understand in this is, like - I know that I don't want to do this, so I don't run a GB. Part of entrusting collectively thousands of dollars to someone in one of these is, to me, an expectation that they'll prioritize this stuff while it's running, and/or build in enough overage in the cost to make the dirty work worth their time. Personally I didn't investigate this one as much as other GBs since my order was like $15 total - not a big deal if it just vanishes into the ether (or shows up two years later). But it rubs me a bit the wrong way when we excuse run-ons in GBs with "it's just their hobby" logic - yea, sure, but a lot of people engage in this hobby without promising X amount of their future time by running one of these.
 Doesn't much matter either way. Just my 2c.
If I was responsible for running a gb, I'd make damn sure I handled the minor inconvenience of mobile browsing to quiet the growing concern over something I'm responsible for.

I don't like the silence. I don't mind waiting when I know the organizer isn't so overwhelmed that they just quit (I am naďve and just ignore the possibility of an outright scam).

For the record, I don't believe that this was a scam. I think Seth set out with the absolute best of intentions in regards to getting things sorted and shipped as quickly as he could. I've been part of group buys that go a long time. I don't expect anything to be shipped out in the original time frame quoted. But doing nothing while ignoring people who want to help, and in at least one instance flat out lying to someone makes my patience quickly dwindle.
FWIW, I put in a dispute with PP. I did that not because of the length of time this was taking, but because of the way the situation is being handled.
Parting shot: I think there should be a probationary GB period, during which the number of participants or the total quantity of items ordered (like in this case) should be limited until a track record has been established.
I love this community, and I just don't want to see the GB trust degrade so much that the only game in town is Massdrop and the bigger vendors.
FWIW I've filed a dispute w/PP.
Granted, and I said this in the note to him, if the LEDs exist -- just send them! It's why we all piled into this boat in the first place.
And I personally only have about $20 invested but this is one of those cases where the principle of the thing requires a response.
I've run a group buy, folks. It takes a while. If you think you might be the type to get too bored to finish ... talk someone else into running the GB.
....he seems to have had a very nice time in Paris (https://www.instagram.com/p/-DZKBewgmK/)
his time in paris was way earlier this year.
So, this is my game plan for who knows how long, until I can completely sort everything out. I am going to ship/finish everyones products I still have, and finish boards. I also have some stuff worked out for the LEDs / SIPs. Only after do I sort everything out will I feel comfortable talking on here again.
Yeah, in that thread he said:So, this is my game plan for who knows how long, until I can completely sort everything out. I am going to ship/finish everyones products I still have, and finish boards. The trouble is that is super vague. My PP claim expires on Dec 11th, and if I let it expire I can't reopen it. I will wait until the 10th to escalate it, but I won't just let it expire without getting the stuff. I'm not sure if he will sort it out by then, but I really hope he does. I'd rather not turn it into a dispute. I actually said I'd be fine with a refund as well, so that would work too.

Though I know that disputes and claims are not good for a paypal account's longevity, if it comes down to PayPal forcing a refund and Seth still sends the LEDs to everyone, including those that have filed claims and have gotten refunded (as he's previously mentioned)... Then I'll send the money back to him when the LEDs come around.

I'm pretty up in the air on this one, I want to give him time but at the same time the lack of transparency is concerning. I really don't want to file a dispute, it's not an incredibly large amount of money but it's not chump change either. What seems to be the consensus here?

My personal thoughts are, even though I don't think he's handling things very well at all I'm also not in a rush to get the LEDs nor is the amount I spent going to cause me any financial issues (I wouldn't have spent it on LEDs if it were ;)) so because there is still plenty of time to file a dispute I'm willing to wait it out for now. That being said I'll be keeping an eye on the progress and wont let the protection period lapse if it really does end up taking that long, I'll also be hesitant to join one of his group buys in the future.
I am in on this one for $297USD and I am on the border of disputing as well. So long with so little communication, for a reasonable amount of money.
Makes me feel better that I escalated my PP dispute into a claim today. That's for sure.I am in on this one for $297USD and I am on the border of disputing as well. So long with so little communication, for a reasonable amount of money.
If it makes you feel any better, he's posting on Snapchat daily, hanging out 'n' chillin' with friends, not working on any of the keyboard stuff. :thumb:

If by some chance he sends me the stuff after I have been reimbursed (as he indicated he may do) I will pay for it. I have no intention of getting anything for free by any means. I had no choice but to escalate it now that it was open - it was going to expire tomorrow. I asked for an update 3 times, and got no response. :( I rather just be refunded at this point anyway.

is this what everyone here is doing? Is anyone waiting still? I think i have until Feb 14 to file a dispute but i could really use that money for some LEDS on ebay or something.

I only spent about $25 on my order so I'm going to take a leap of faith and hope that he will deliver his promise. If not, it'll be a $25 loss and a lesson well learned.

I'm still waiting but my patience will probably run out some time in January (after I've finished with the Xmas/new year hustle and bustle) if there is no movement on this by then given all that has been posted in this thread and still no response from Seth even though he is well aware what is going on here I'll definitely be raising a claim then and wont be joining one of his GBs in the future, communication is key and its really not a hard thing to do.

Just a heads up that Seth isn't even answering Paypal dispute claims. He had 10 days to respond, and he didn't.
So I guess Paypal is just going to refund me my $40
And I was really looking forward to getting some 1.8mm LEDs :(

You may still get the LEDs!

If everyone who filed a dispute and was refunded had this attitude, I suspect everyone would have a better chance of getting their LEDs and sockets, rather than sethk_ flipping them for profit elsewhere.
He's been working on my keyboard for weeks. He created a shipping label the 16th but has been too lazy to even get to the post office to mail.
Too bad I paid as a gift...He's been working on my keyboard for weeks. He created a shipping label the 16th but has been too lazy to even get to the post office to mail.
I ordered PCBs from the now-defunct kbdhub (run by sethk) and the same thing happened to me a few times - I would inquire, he'd print a label, never actually mail the package, I'd inquire again, he'd promise it was ready and would generate another label that never made it to the PO, and around and around we went. I eventually had to open a dispute and his response was to make yet another label...
Caveat emptor.
I too opened a claim. Its just been too long and at this point I am going to have to get my LED's from some place else. This was my first group buy, not that this will scare me away from them its just sad it turned out this way.
He's got the LEDs, and maybe is planning to ship them out eventually.
I'm wondering if there will be a tipping point with all these disputes and refunds where he will just give up and throw the whole lot out or something.
Has anyone heard any updates on this?Opened a dispute around two weeks before the cutoff on Paypal, was immediately upgraded to a claim then after a few days paypal refunded it. I don't think I'll ever see the stuff unless he comes back and tries to sell them, if they arrived randomly I would pay for them but I doubt that at this point.

Lots of people have been opening disputes, and many have received refunds.
I'm not in for that much, so I'll let it go.
I'm just wondering if there has been any action or rumours or anything ...

I can try to contact him again if you want rowdy

I spent like $AUD100 and would really like to get something for my money. It's awful that we have all been swindled right? Out of good faith I kept waiting and waiting in hopes of something happening and giving him the benefit of the doubt. And stupid me, my time to open a dispute with PayPal has passed.
I'm still OK to receive my order, but equally happy to receive a refund.
Could you perhaps pass on the message rowdy? As he hasn't responded to my communication.
What makes you think he'd respond to me?
I've given up and bought some LEDs elsewhere.
seth, if you're reading this, I would still like those I ordered and paid for, if you would be so kind as to ship them at your earliest convenience, thank you.

:(
I saw this thread when I first got into mechs and was planning my first build, a B.87. However, everything in this GB costs significantly more than the same things on eBay (especially considering shipping), and the turnaround time is longer as well.
Looks like I made the right choice by avoiding this one. :|
Oh **** I'm sorry I didn't mean to bump an old thread
The LEDs I got elsewhere have arrived. 3mm though, which is actually probably better suited to my project anyway.
I could still use some 1.8mm LEDs, sethk_, so if you do ever find the opportunity to send them out, or at least to give the whole lot to someone else to send out, I'd be grateful.
Thanks.

If you need 1.8mm, there are some on ebay :) free shipping
