Title: Welcome new members!
Post by: mkawa on Wed, 18 July 2012, 21:06:18
This is geekhack. We like keyboards, keycaps, making stuff, long walks on the beach, etc. Introduce yourself here, and then browse the rest of the non-commercial forums. Once you accumulate enough experience, you will automatically be allowed to view the commercial portion of the forums.

Thanks folks!

How much "experience" is needed? I'm trying to check the status of a group buy that I am participating in and can't even see the forum.

IDK, but in this (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=32552.0) thread you can see OP has 27 posts and still a "newbie" , I'm a lurker but I really want access to classifieds and group buys, this experience system is just  :-[

I have more than 10 posts and I still can't see the group buy section... Even though I am currently in a couple group buys. Not liking this new system at all, why not be explicit with what we need to do rather than be coy?

edit: and now I feel like a dumb*** cause all I needed was one post in the forums to fix this... Hell of a first post. My apologies.

Do you mean I'll at least have one post in each of the sub forums for me to view the commercial portion of the forums? Just let me try...

What I meant was you just have to post one time on the new GH site for all of your old posts to register. I made the above post before I saw the announcement about this. So if you already have 10+ posts before Gh went down, just post once anywhere and you will be able to see the groupbuys and classifieds.

Hi,
Took constant scavaging of my spam folder but I finally found the confirmation email.
Owner of a Tesoro Durandal G1NL with Cherry Browns. First (kept) mechanical keyboard since my IBM PC back in the day. Now if the industry wakes up and realizes we of backlight would like custom keycaps too.

What exactly do "non-commercial" forums entail? Like user marketplace and stuff or something?
