Title: [IC] Exotic sleeving materials @ PEXON
Post by: pexon on Mon, 16 February 2015, 16:02:40
Hi guys.

I just want to share an interest check for some more exotic sleeving materials. When I started out making cables a few years ago, I did a few custom cables with materials such as Carbon Fibre, Kevlar, Teflon and Aramid.

Sleeving materials I can currently source from the UK are as follows:-

Red indicates high cost, orange indicates medium price and green indicates low price (prices are estimates).

-Flexo Stainless Steel £5 per metre (30m minimum) (304 Stainless - Silver colour)

-Flexo Shiled £16 per metre (10m minimum) (VERY expensive, aramid fiber core, good EMI shielding)

-Flexo HT (self extinguishing, high temperature sleeving, black in colour with a white tracer)

-Flexo PEEK (advanced engineering sleeve, food grade- used in aerospace, medical and biomdedical applications )

-Techflex Flame Retarant (high quality flame retardant plastic style sleeving with white tracer)

-Ryton (High temp sleeving available in black or natrual finish. High resilience to chemicals, heat and solvents. Used in telecoms and military applications)

-Vectran (multifilament yarn from liquid crystal polymer, 5 times stronger than steel. Rather expensive)

-Reflex (PET Style sleeving, similar to Techflex Carbon in colour- Has genuine 3M reflective material in weave 1,500 times brighter than plain white)

-Teflon £4 per metre (Stunning, clear braided sleeving. Super sleek, soft to the touch, high abrasion and cut resistance)

-Nomex (super high heat resistance, used in automotive industry in race cars, gorgoue natural colour )

-Carbon Fibre £4 per metre (no need to introduce this. Stunning natural colour and appearance, high strength, stiff and lightweight.)

-Flexo filter (originally designed for filtering water, cheap, nice natrual clear finish)

-Flexo Noise Reduction (stunning black, multi stranded sleeving, noise supressing, great value)

-Nylon Mulitfilament £1 per metre (cheap, effective alternative to Techflex PET, Teleios and plastic style sleeving- pnly in black)

Thats the sleeving I can get hold of, next day in the UK.

If you see anything that tickles your fancy, let me know and I will see what we can do to get them in. I may run a small GB for these exotic sleeving types as some of the materials can be very expensive.

I will flesh out the prices and pictures tonight. I really want to get some of the carbon fibre sleeving back in stock, its a stunning material and the price is relatively inexpensive, considering the quality; we will eb able to offer it for about £5 additional cost on top of a standard cable. I will also have to recheck some of the sleeving and see if can be coiled at all, I know some of the Kevlar style sleevings do not like it at all!

I am very interested in the Carbon Fiber and the Stainless Steel. I think they would both be very cool.

As for the others, I will wait until the pictures before I can vouch for any of them :)

I'm working on pics right now and will get a rough estimate for pricing :)

Tentative price is £5 per metre on the stainless XC (soft version), so you'd be looking at around £25

These all look amazing. Good to hear it's not terribly expensive. Haven't gotten a ss or cf cable due to an unnamed cable maker that begins with m and ending in imic wants like 50 or something for that sleeving

The prices in the OP are the best prices I can get from our UK Supplier, genuine Techflex UK stock (next day delivery). The SS, carbon fibre an Telfon are EPIC sleevings, I will be 100% getting some in.

Is Stainless Steel in the wrong section or are all the yellow and orange ones between £4 and £5? :))

I thought that the Stainless Steel would work out expensive, however, its not too bad. The MOQ is high, hence its in the red band ;)

Do you have any recommended pairing for double sleeves?

We need Teflon over Carbon fiber! Is this possible?

Yea, it could be possible. Once I get more Carbon and Teflon in, I will do some experiments and see :D
