Depending on prices, I'd buy a base kit, 60% mods kit, and the ever needed novelty kit. Love the colors  :thumb:
In the same boat. I have been wanting to pull the trigger on a new keyset, but I never considered novelties. With this all I can think about is novelties. Hopefully these will be available really soon.

Quote of the month! :D
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

All right, the vendor I may possibly be looking at has now changed, so kits will be eliminated and condensed down. In terms of numbers and method of condensing all the kits, it looks like there'll probably end up being three or four 4; base and mods, numpad (may be joined into base and mods), novelties, nonstandard/international (may be split etc).

Here's what it could look like with numpad, base and mods together.

I'm not a DSA fan. However, I am a large Douglas Adams fan. For my sake and possibly my sake alone, please include an 1800 kit with 1u 0 key, 1.75u R-Shift, 1.5u MODS, and R1 Del, End, Pg Dn. So long! Thanks!

Generally you order as part of the group buy, the group gets a discount on the order (if a sufficient number of sets are purchased), then that's it.

Maybe, at some future date, there might be a second round.

Maybe a vendor will buy a couple of dozen sets and sell them after the GB ends.

But if you want in on this, then order as soon as the GB goes live.

Details about the changes; the line on the right side of the dolphin's mouth, and the spaces between the knuckled in the thumb logo were too thin to be made, I have fattened both and made the Dolphin larger to accomodate it, alongside this the removal of the two don't panic keys is to cut down on cost. I am nearing finalization on the novelty kit.

Doug was a massive Mac-head. As far as I know they only had a very few cylindical caps, and those were poorly received.

The mac wasn't released until '84, the original Hitchhikers was written in '79..... Although I'm sure he used macs to write in the future I imagine the original at the very least was started on an old school corona or something similar. To base an entire set off that statement alone is a little crazy, but of course my request for SA is just a matter of opinion as well. I know not everyone is about that profile.

That's awesome! I'd like to check that list out. I'm a huge fan as well. But yeah, as he was an early adopter of the mac, internet, email, etc. He did use a type writer (Hermes 8 Standard) to write most of the early Hitchhiker's books:

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (1979)

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (1980)

Life, the Universe and Everything (1982)

So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish (1984) (maybe on a mac)

They were even auctioning off his old typewriter that was signed:

I love that, so elegant.

I have mixed feelings about this set.  It looks great but it's DSA.  I've never typed on DSA but the description of it sounds awful.   There are a lot of DSA sets in the interest check stage right now.  Maybe it's time to find a cheap set of DSA to try before some of these sets hit the group buy phase.

DSA isn't bad at all! If you've never tried a spherical set, it's going to surprise your fingers a litte, but it'll be like 20 minutes before you're typing just as fast as before. Is it better than cylindrical? Probably not. Is it worse? Probably not. Honestly, your fingers will adapt - they're not made for typing anyway...

Sad that that story wasn't finished :(

Richard McDuff had a flat full of Macs IIRC in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

And Arthur used an Apple of some sort when he was trying to track down the location of his cave on prehistoric Earth, and it turned out to be where Fenchurch lived.

Just a reminder: today (Oct 12, 1979) was the first release of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!!

Quick question on the novelties: what happened to Marvin??

Marvin was acquired by Disney. Copyright etc., while it's a shame that he can't be here, which I'm sure he would absolutely love, and though it might be presumptive to say so, these new novelties are absolutely banging. Their design language is cohesive, they're manufacturable, good looking, and they're striking; how many other sets have a dolphin silhouetted in front of a planet?

Thanks! I can't take the credit since this was made for me by another user with the proper tooling to cut wood, but I'm ready! In the meantime DSA Borealis will be going on this (for my wife's build) until Hitchhiker's can be made.

Your idea sounds amazing as well! I would love to see that come to fruition.

Stunning.

Absolutely stunning.

I was thinking something similar, but signing Slartibartfast under some acrylic.

Yeah, Borealis is my fallback until Hitchhikers is done.

Oh man!!

I am in. So in.

If there is enough love from everyone else and this gets made, I will build a board for these caps, not just put these caps on a board.

Oh wow that's gorgeous. Makes me slightly frustrated I can't get the set out to you guys sooner :P

I can be patient. And by patient I mean I can check this thread everyday till it can be ordered.

Is there anything any of us can do to assist you in the process? I think if we pool resources and time we can get this made sooner than later :)

Haha, thanks, but we'll just have to wait on this one, hopefully not too much longer

So after spending money I probably shouldn't have, I have a question.

Is there a chance we can get a 1u zero added in there or just something we can put in its place?

I'm thinking of the ZZ/RS/AMJ 96, and people who will have the arrow keys but need a 1u zero to fit it.

I know I can probably throw in one of the novelties instead, I just like the alphas colourway.

Am I just dreaming? Or is this feasible?

Yeah, that's pretty.

Borealis is a great stand in set while I get hyped for hitchhikers.

Because Australia, it's going to take another week or two till I get my Borealis set.
