Handmade Artisan Keycap Directory

Some of you out there could be like me-- overwhelmed with the array of different keycap makers and their designs.  Well, I've been compiling a list of keycap makers and their works over the past few months.  I've realized that this would be even better if I can get other peoples' input and help to flesh it out!

The directory is a Google Doc right now that shows individual designs (not colors) from artisan keycap makers who have gained publicity.  I'd love to hear from anyone else out there about any mistakes in the list or additions that need to be made!  If you want to contribute, add a comment to the Directory where appropriate.  If you think something should be added, leave a link to a picture of it too!

I'm currently leaving out keycap makers' blanks (there are just too many out there) and keycaps made via 3D printing or are a clearly factory-produced product.  Other rules for inclusion are listed at the top of the Directory.

One purpose of the directory is to allow people to more readily identify and compare different keycaps.  For example, you could more easily distinguish between a Bro Caps Cherokey and the K3KC imitation.  Including both versions facilitates this interaction.

Yeah, he's at the bottom as part of a judgment call, along with lesser-known or inactive artisans.

I myself keep a detailed Excel sheet of every purchase I make, and also what I'd like to buy. For keyboards/keycaps/computer peripherals, I keep a workbook called "Compute" with different tabs for each field. GMK Esc's and artisans kept lumped together, and I give a full detailed description for each artisan--the name, the designer, the geekhack/Reddit username, the stem, the material, the height and print (if applicable), and the date I received them.
Crazy, I know, but it helps keep me in check with all my artisans and make sure they get their turn on my boards!

This really is a fantastic directory so far. The only change I'd make is the order of makers and designs. I personally would prefer alphabetical.

For your current entries, I suggest that you add an additional criterion.  All of those makers have sold their caps.  There are others who make caps for personal use or are otherwise not sold.  I have made caps and distributed a few to others, but I do not have an entry.  I'm not vying for position or demanding one, I just know my own example.  I can think of other users that may fit into this category such as Lurch (he has homemade caps, but I'm not sure if he has any sculpted ones), b3Rz3Rko, and Frogbot.

In a case like yours, I would consider including a personal-use-only custom keycap only if you show off a lot of pictures of it. That way we can catalogue its existence without trying to add every keycap sculpt or casting ever conceived.

The one you called Cycap is Hard Knock Waz and Yag Woz 2 is Harder Knock Waz.  Cycap was an earlier cap.  The "alien" one is unnamed and was a one off.

Mandolins caps are under the name Artkeycaps. The designs he sold are called Demon cat and el chihuahua.

I think he and HKP both toe the line of what's allowed on the list. But I don't have proof of them making their caps industrially or by machine.

IIRC, didn't Clack injection mold some of his caps? What's the problem?

His rules were caps that were 3D printed were not to be included.

GirlDC on Massdrop noted he 3D prints them.

I'm not planning on adding every CNC'd or 3D printed keycap to the list. They have their place and their own audience, but I don't want the list to be dominated by those entries. Tasker would take multiple pages by himself.

On Massdrop he said he 3D prints the master and then modifies it for molding and mass production. That is okay and the rules on the directory say so. He didn't say that the keycap you buy from him is 3D printed.

Man, as much as I don't care for Gundam, I would probably fork over $$ to get a custom mecha keycap from another series (Five Star Stories or Muv-Luv).

But just because you can't find pictures doesn't mean you should leave them out if you know that they exist.

Doom though has the MFDoom, Doombringer, MS-DOS, Filigree, and HiProfile keycaps.
