Buying a 6.5x bottom row
« on: Sat, 31 December 2016, 04:06:37 »
Will a standard Cherry MX keyset fit on it or is the space bar a different size? That's it!

Hi and I'm sorry but no, standard Cherry MX keycaps sets bottom row caps (only ALT will fit on the k65 bottom row) will not fit on corsair non - standard bottom rows k - boards. Standard size Ctrl, Win, Spacebar and FN/Menu will not fit on your k65 bottom row. Best way is to read the (if any) info text  when buyin keycaps sets.

Standard Spacebar size is 1x6.25, corsair k65 Spacebar is 1x6.5. Standard Ctrl, Win, Alt and FN/Menu caps standard size is 1x1.25. k65 = Ctrl is 1x1.5, Win is 1x1, FN/Menu is 1x1. Alt cap have the standard size  1x1.25 on k65.

As you can see here in the link http://www.maxkeyboard.com/mechanical-keycap-layout-and-size-chart.html Ducky, Das, Wasd + some more have a standard bottom row size.

This sets will fit on your k65: http://www.maxkeyboard.com/max-universal-cherry-mx-translucent-clear-black-full-keycap-set-front-side-print.html

A bad picture of my ANSI Ducky One RGB YOTG with standard bottom row.

Happy new year.

Somehow did not turn them up in my vendor researching. They look very promising, thank you very much bro!

You're welcome ;D

Unfortunately thats the main problem with the corsairs non - standard bottom row  k - boards, if you want to change the keycaps.

Sometimes you can get lucky and find "Keycaps sets Drops" on Massdrop with addons/extra kits with the 6.5 Spacebar and the non - standard  bottom row caps. Problem is that you have to buy Base set + the addon/extra kit and have to wait some months before you get it.

I have sometimes problems when lookin at keycaps sets, most of the sets are 104 keys but I have some 108 keys k - boards.

I was about to buy a side print set of gray caps for the K65, leave the spacebar alone, and replace the other modifier keys with the leftovers from the numpad turned around so you couldn't see the marking on them.

Seemed like a great idea, but now I can't tell if the Watermelon DSA is gonna support 6.5x spacebars or not. Damn it! So I think I will suffer with the godawful eye bleedingly ugly Corsair caps.

Hey guys, finally about to get some caps to replace the Corsair stock ones which I can not wait to do at all. Very excited. Only problem is the set i'm getting doesn't include a 6.5x space bar or enough 1x bottom row keys to fit my K65. Anyone who sells just the spacebar and a couple other individual keys? I will use all the caps that fit from the set i'm getting and hopefully only need to buy 3 extra individual keys to complete the bottom row. Should look good when I make it all white keycaps on the brushed metal.

Max have a 6.5 Spacebar and blank 1x1 caps, non backlit, if you will  use that, you can get in White, only problem is if it match your keycaps set color you're gonna to buy or are you goin to paint it by yourself?

I bought some Leopold white caps from the classies here.

http://i.imgur.com/SY5Pyfv.jpg

when i get them I will see for myself how white they are and make my best guess - i will paint the space bar and keys if i have to, but honestly i am not terribly bothered if i have to use a black bottom row and all white keys otherwise. Might not even look as terrible as I'm worried it could be. The carbon fiiber space bar of the Corsair already doesnt match the rest of the board  :))

Well then again.... you and I are both waiting on Watermelon caps as I can see  :D so I might just be lazy and leave the bottom row as is, be happy with the rest of the caps (the carbon fiber space bar is nice to use and feel, just doesn't look perfect with the rest of the rest of the board IMO but love the texture) The Watermelon set is going to accommodate for weird bottom row configurations as the designer has confimed. I'll be able to have a perfectly spaced set on my Corsair board which will make me very happy. Until then I'll use White Leopolds on the rest, be happy with the fact I have nicer (to me) looking caps on the rest of the board, and whenever the Watermelons come along I will sell the Leopolds to someone else. Sounds look  a good plan to me  :thumb:

You're right about the DSA Watermelon keycaps set, I hope this will happend on Massdrop as soon as possible, I was thinkin to buy 1 or 2 7ft 550 Paracord sleeved Watermelon USB cable/s for my k - board from Mimic cables. 1 of my k - boards use the micro USB port and the rest of my old k - boards use the mini USB port.

Thanks for the thoughts seville57! I think I will be happy with the white keys/black bottom row until Watermelon happens.

Those USB cables look very nice :) I didn't realize there was a market for nice cables like that but I should have figured. I have been making audio cables for a while now - making custom USB's should be a sinch  ;)

If I decide to do a custom cable thing for the community here I'm sure you'll find out  ;)

That's a really cool looking board, makes me excited to work with some DSA.
I was about to build my own from a GT60 PCB and reds but the K65 is, aside from the keycaps, the perfect board for me.
It is exactly how i would have wanted to build my own instead of the typical GT60 build and I love it.

I think i will be happy even leaving the bottom row as is. What really bugged me was the grey WASD and arrow keys, with those gone, it looks much cleaner. This mock up I made when deciding on what caps to get looks a bit silly because it's a 2 minute Photoshop hackjob, but it was good enough to let me visualize how it looked. The more i look at it, the less it seems like I really need to have the bottom row white too. It mixes better with the black media keys on top - which i do use! Just me though, but its okay, its my clacks  ;D

This was my first DSA keycaps set. The Spacebar is Ducky's own.

Galaxy Class, a GB from Massdrop some years ago.

My second DSA set, Royal Navy, a GB from UKKeycaps last year.

Like you said, it look better with all the caps  White. About the Jukebox SA set, this is the only SA set I like. Love the cars (not Chevy) and music from the 50's.

The El Dorado Seville was a classic if that's the one you mean! Chevys are always garbage, regardless of year. (My dad got a Volt and I had fun driving it, but I still  have my suspicions) Not as bad as Chrysler though

You must be a Jazzman record label fan then?

edit: damnnnnn that LCARS theme set is fresh...

Ok, so i ended up not using the white Leopold spacebar only because there is a height mismatch between the stock keycaps and the new ones, plus it doesn't look terrible with the bottom row still black... much better than stock anyhow... I'm happy with it :thumb:
