Skool Lunch
« on: Thu, 15 April 2021, 09:36:40 »
Do you guys remember school lunch?

Those TaterTotes had this plastic/cardboard flavor. And that mustard left a chemically bitter zingy aftertaste.

Do they sell this stuff else where ?

We didn’t generally have school canteens like that in Germany, you bring your own food.

The few times my parents could force me to actually visit that wretched place, I don’t remember ever bringing food. I ate properly at home after school.

I remember my mother packing me sandwiches until maybe 4th grade.

I don’t need to eat anything in the morning, and generally not before 14:00. It actually makes me sick. I never eat breakfast except drinking a cup of hot chocolate (which is my equivalent to the morning coffee).

Yea, they try to addict you early so you're a customer for life. They give kickbacks to the school board which authorizes the purchase. It's corruption of the highest order.

The budget frozen pizzas are actually really authentic on the old skool squares.

My mom packed my lunch until I got tired of nothing but ham sandwiches around 10th grade (?). My school actually had rather delicious lunches though because my friends' moms were the cooks. The taco salad was so good that my friend and I used to say we'd want it as our last meal if we ever ended up on death row.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

The skool macnchez was only good (for me) when I'm really hungry, otherwise it wasn't nearly as good as chili+rice day, or of course taco days.

For my school they used the Velveeta Shells and cheese style of M&Chee, and filled your plate with it.  Taco days were always fun as well but they were few and far between (went to private school so lunch was provided w/in the tuition to go).

square pizza

this.

but other than that, my school served pretty high quality food - there was a period where they forgot how to cook the chicken nuggets and a few people got food poisoning but other than that, it was pretty good.
