Ivan, I just realized something, the modpack does not include 1800 layout keys!

I'm not sure if it's too late to request something, but would it be possible to add:
1x R2 1u "-" key
1x R3 1u "+" key

So I can actually do a full 1800 layout with a BSP set :)

Show Image

Hope it's possible, just two extra keys!

What's the point? Those boards are already readily available with beige double-shots. Sorry I know it might only be two caps but that's what everyone says, if Ivan adds caps every time someone requests it these sets will cost a fortune.

Instead of including all those blank caps (useless imo) and add some of those that people actually want?  Especially those blank windowed caps..:S

Any chance to include windowed caps at all (caps lock, scroll, numlock, etc)?

Blanks are really cheap to add on from what I recall, adding extra double-shots not so much. I know people want to fulfill all sorts of requirements but at the end of the day the vast majority of people buying the mod pack are just going to pick up an 1800 off ebay, pull the alphas and then ditch the rest of the board.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

What I'm saying is.. You could achieve the same result with a Cherry 1800 set, since the keys are identical to GMK ones.

I agree with you that this would be a possible solution.

I just wish I could find a G80-1800 set in classic beige on Taobao, ebay and places, but unfortunately Cherry switched to this stark-white colour scheme (CP or UN0001 for every keycap) for their -1800 boards, and I haven't had much luck locating an old one.

Just thought I'd voice my request and thoughts on why it would be nice to include these two keys, for the sake of completion.

Like I already mentioned, the set already has a lot of keys, and it is good for almost every layout, and I really look forward to its actualization. Definitely a must-buy for anyone who wants to use their BSP set for a HHKB layout or something.

P.S. If you happen to know where I could pick up a G8X-1800 in classic beige with thick caps, do let me know :)

WELL THEN... thank you! :)

That said, it will cost a lot more for someone that wants just these two extra caps, so I feel that if there is enough interest, maybe we can still add these two keys, rather than to have to buy the whole keyset.
I am not completely sure, but it might not actually affect the price of the pack too much for two additional caps if we already have so many.

Buying the set from Taobao is a solution, but at a cost of $50+ for two keys.

Ivan's mod pack already includes a lot of unusual keys, which I believe is for the sake of completing layouts (it can do HHKB/Viper, convert ISO to ANSI, ANSI to ISO, and a lot more), so it's not that strange to have the 1800 keys. Would we consider adding two more keys (for a small amount of money), for the sake of completion and having yet another option?

Well, the point of it would be so that a full G8X-1800 layout can be achieved, using a BSP set.

That said, I understand your concerns, and it is definitely not something everyone would want, and would add costs.

Personally, I would be using them to use a BSP set for a Lightsaver layout, so I can squeeze an extra key in there, while having a complete/authentic G8X-1800 layout

Show Image

(This one is missing the proper arrow key layout, but the numpad is the focus! Also the + and - key locations are wrong, should be swapped)
Show Image

While Cherry G8X-1800 will already have these keys, I assume that a large number of people will be using the mod pack with BSP Cyrillic, Peacock, Olivetti, etc sets, and would appreciate having these two extra keys.

I feel that the purpose of this mod pack is to allow people to complete BSP sets, and to an extent, it already includes enough keys to covers 99% of what people would want to use it with, the 1% missing being the 1800 layout.
This GB is not for BSP keys. It is for GMK doubleshot keys, which are basically identical to Cherry doubleshots from the 1800s.

I didn't know Cherry boards were that old!

There are blank key you can use for 1u row D and C - + key. Blanks are essential to add compatibility for more things... like 75% and more that all have different legend orders. If add legend key for every variation instead use of blanks it would be like 2x as many and 2x the cost.

Sorry about the higher prices, having presort and plastic tray package from GMK adds a bit. Groupbuy fee is also a little more to help cover additional costs of using boxes for shipping instead of bubble mailers.

WHAT!!! ???
Pre sort And Plastic Tray???

Awesome!!!!

Are these plastic trays like EK sells for keycap collections?

Ivan won't know until after all the keys are produced. There is no way of telling what colors or how many of each he will receive. You need to just pay for a couple sets and wait to be surprised.

Yes, they are similar to those EK has. They are actually a bit larger which is a good thing or these big groupbuy kits will all the 'extra' keys wouldn't fit inside them :))

Presort and pack in tray is about $9 extra (which has been already included in the set price) on the full set. I don't feel that extra charge is worth it on the smaller kits so the add ons will come in bag instead. For those ordering sets and add on, if there is any room for things to be added inside the full set trays I will try my best to do that.

Ivan, you've moistened my loins yet again with this fantastic all GMK GB  :thumb: .

LOVE the colours, even though you're using Gatsie's Sh1te Logo it still is a superb rendition of 1985 and I need this one badly.  I was lucky because someone here notified me via PM to your Group Buy which I have to thank because I would of went into 2015 without ever knowing anything about this special kit.

I sure hope this one goes through to the factory in the new year, have some keyboards that would be elevated beyond stylish, with these installed.

You are most welcome Elrick ^_^  :thumb:

Hi Ivan, is it possible to let keycap orders to be pre-sorted in gmk zip bags instead of this plastic tray?
Because this tray is quite long and might get charged of volumetric weight with more cost for international shipping if amount of keycaps are large.

Hi,

so these keycaps are Cherry profile, right?

Is it possible to just buy the modifier keys I need, instead of the whole set?

I also need a 6.25 Spacebar in white. Is this possible? (without buying a trillion spacebars and hoping to get a white one?)

Sorry for the stupid questions, this would be my first GB. I'm so excited  :D

Yes, they are Cherry profile.

I doubt you will be able to pick and choose which keys you want.  You could find someone to split the cost of a mod pack with.  That shouldn't be that hard since the mod pack contains all the standard modifiers so there are likely people who are buying it just for the non-standard mods.  With regard to the random spacebar, there will likely be post-GB trade threads so maybe get one or two for trade, although you shouldn't assume any white spacebars will even be produced.

If this is a real problem, I can always move caps from tray to bag myself on case by case basis.

Ivan I just placed an order, but here is a few question regarding the set u have put up.

1. Why we have blanks 1.5? legended ctrl and alt are not enough? ( I understand that the 1.25 blanks are wanted for the people that dislike the win logos)
2. I understand that u want to match this set to whatever old keyboards use to exist, but whats the point when the legends are incorrect to the current keyboards we have?
3. Why extra " Enter" key for the numberbad
4. Why extra " 0 " for the number pad
5. Why 3 extra arrow keys clusters?
6. Why the extra line feed key?
7. The " . " key for the numberpad is also extra ( forgot to circle it in the picture)

After all calculated we are entering close to 160-170 price tag for a set that has fishy legends, F row keys changed with some numbers.... not the typical GMK.... extra duplicate keys for no reason. Thanks for running the GB but if I'm not mistaken u started the Dolch GB overbloated at first with tons of unecesary keys and high prices and the GB went into halt. Its like your building the GMK sets for ur taste only and not considering what other people think.

I would like to hear what iss the opinion of  the GH's here about this set. Posting pic of the few issues I have with the set.

The extra arrow/enter/0 keys are a different profile (R5 instead of R4).

As blighty said, those keys are row 5 instead of row 4 that's why they are included.

I think that Ivan was just trying to make a set that could fit a lot of the odd, old, and different layout available. I think he did a good job with that.

However I do agree with you in that we should be using up to date labeling of they keys instead of the older legends. I think that the styling should stay the same but with the proper up to date legends. It just doesn't make much sense other than just purely aesthetic reasons. The old school look but with current legends would be more appropriate in my opinion.

...

This is a nostalgic set reminiscent of the bit-paired keyboards. Most of the legends haven't been printed in a long time, and there are already posts in this thread showing where the inspiration for this set came from. You can use your $ to vote one way or another.

I know whats the motivation behind the set, he trying to copy paste the look of some old keyboards. I'm yet to see picture of a keyboard that has the circled numbers F row keys instead F1-F12. This is the same what happened when Dolch first was started and peeps backed out cause of all the extra keys were included for no good reason. I'm not speaking of the possible layouts out there, I know what they are.......

Any ways don't need to  say more and be a party pooper, I placed the order without  seeing for what it is. I like the color combos for the keys and legends, but the bugs me that all of the misplaced legends have no purpose on our boards, extra keys for no good reason, F row messed up and all of this changes brought up the price of the set. Sorry Ivan I'm not sold on this one, take me out from the GB for now at least, if things change up and the set looks more like ur previous Dolch GB and priced the same I'll be joining in again.

This buy is about pure nostalgia and offering a lot of legends that are quite rare and haven't been made in decades. It will be a one time thing. I wanted to do it earlier for the 30th anniversary of MX keyboards. If it's not your thing, thats fine.
