Hello, friends of Geekhack,
We are excited to start the Group buy for G60. G60 is a retro-style USB/Bluetooth Dual Mode Keyboard designed by Scott from the Basic I/O Instruments (BIOI). After obtaining feedback from the GH community in a previous IC (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=94188.0), a successful trial run private GB, and a recent interest check (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=97324.0), Scott has optimized many fine details, and we believe G60 warrants a full run at GH.

HYPE

Glad the GB is running so long - are there limited slots or can I wait a couple of weeks?
-
Hi there,
How will the Pearl White finish be applied? Good luck with the GB.
-
Beautiful board! Good luck with the group buy.
-
In!
-
Oooohhhh I'm definitely in! Since you seem to take an interest in applying old cherry style to new boards, what do you think about making a tkl version like this one (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=90589.msg2458777)?
-
How much does it weight ? If don't have and have Brass Weight?
-
In for NCR Grey/White and a whole bunch of extras. Beyond stoked.

sorry for the newb question, but what are the advantages of the thick plate?
-
I would also like to know about how the premium colors are applied. Is the white powder coated or is it electrophoresis?

Only pearl white is using a proprietary technology with silky smooth surface, other colors are all anodization. The special colorways are new colors Scott ordered.

sorry for the newb question, but what are the advantages of the thick plate?
Its T H I C C :p
Depends what you like to type on. If its stiff, a little flex, sound etc.
-
Awesome to have the GB started. :thumb:
The 4mm plate looks solid and promising.
-
Is it possible to order one that is fully assembled?
-
Hi Scott, I really love the fact that this case is GH60-compatible.
I see that if I don't need the PCB, I can opt out and get a $42 "discount".
So my question is: If I also don't need the 1.5mm plate, can I get an even lower price? ;D
Because I want to put my current Alps build into this case, and I already have both the PCB and the custom-cut plate :)
Thanks.

Heavier and stiffer, if that's what you want.
I believe it'd be the opposite of a half-plate or a carbon-fiber one.

what weight are we looking at if we get the thick plate and the internal brass weight :O

In regards to the FPC extension kit, will it plug into a normal GH60 PCB's usb connector?
-
That looks awesome, and I have a bunch of questions.
- Can you post supported layouts? Split space?
Are the layouts the same for all plate options?- Can you post a picture of the battery compartment?
Does it interfere with the brass weight option? - Does the pcb support in-switch LEDs? Do you have pics or renders of the PCB for that matter?
Thank you!

Pics from ALF`s discord:
Prototype PCB Support in switch LED, ( OP correct me if i am wrong )
[attach=1]
The top part of the bottom case has a small notch/inlay, i guess its meant for the weight or the battery. ( OP correct me if i am wrong )
[attach=2]
( To note this the prototype and the cut in the bottom case where you see a brass plate has been removed and there is no cut/open bottom case )

Isn't the cutout meant for BT reception?

Really debating if I want to buy into this or wait for a re-run of the Grid 600 case....both are exactly the thick, chunky type of frame I love in a 60%.

I'm thinking of joining this too. If I do join, I have a powder-coated white Grid with flash and classic modules that I'd be looking to get rid of.

What color plate are you guys doing who pick NCR color?
-
I'm trying to determine which colour goes best with dev/tty and grey mods, any thoughts?
-
For the tray mount, how do the screw holes look like? Brass standoffs? Preinstalled? Asking because I had big trouble with the recent Dasher D60.
-
Hmmm... I may have to get one of these...

Seems like the mounting is in the edges, unlike the standard poker / universal plate.

is this intentional??

Hmm, maybe because of color contrast? They should be the same color

I'm new to group buys, how does the plate color effect a brass plate? And would any standard 60 percent PCB work in this case.
-
would any standard 60 percent PCB work in this case.
Most standard 60% PCBs should support the available layouts of the top mount plates being offered but you should make sure for yourself. Alternatively, you should be able to bring your own tray mount plate since the case will have standard tray mount standoffs. You would just want to indicate in your order form that you don't want the included PCB or plate to save a bit of cash. For what it's worth I thought about this myself but the price of included PCB is extremely reasonable considering all of the features packed into it. Heck, even if I don't decide to use the included PCB in this case I have some ideas about using it in a more portable configuration :)

I was thinking of using a hotswap pcb so i could try several switches in it

Yeah you can actually minus the PCB and save 42 bucks I believe

it means the PCB can operate in normal USB cable mode, or, when a switch is flipped, in Bluetooth mode.

End of GB I think
-

It's a bluetooth-low-energy keyboard PCB running with QMK firmware, when you connected with the USB cable, it will working as a USB keyboard automatically and start charging the battery, once the USB cable unpluged, it will working as a bluetooth keyboard with paired computer.

Hello All,
Welcome to the ALF x Scott G60 GB. I'm not trying to cause trouble, but I wish to inform buyers new to ALF manufacturing and what to expect.
Caveat Emptor folks!
Alf has a history of delays, look at dc60, alf x3 renova, alf x2, and currently doro67 and x11 are behind schedule.
My dc60 order and 19 other orders are still waiting for Alf to ship the replacements, after 2months since everyone else has received orders. I am not attacking Alf, but simply tell the facts as is. iLouise has been doing his best, but beyond daily reminders to Alf, there isn't much else he can do to get the remaining 20 dc60 orders shipped.
Delays happen and that understandable, but Alf has made countless promises on when items would be shipped, and have missed those dates.
You may say that I am picking on Alf when there are other GBs with more significant delays and sub-par quality products. The state of other poorly run GBs are fairly well known, but I thought with Alf regularly taking new orders. His style of manufacturing should be highlighted. Delays may be the norm, but we should have better communications and not false promises. Secondly, these other GBs are not taking on new orders and projects while existing orders are still behind schedule. Alf is running this as a business, and yet we as customers are being treated as second rate.
I know I am going to ruffle some feathers and take some heat for speaking out, oldcat/SugaaH is going to defend Alf. But I felt it was necessary to point out the issues before it got any worse. I hope I don't get attacked too severely for getting this off my chest.
I hope you enter this GB knowing the situation and that Alf is taking 2 projects at the exact same time, this round. G80 and the 65% Dolch.CR
Kind Regards,
P.S. Did not expect this to become an open letter, but as I was typing and editing, it sort of became one.
-
I would like to echo the above post. I made a more detailed post of my recent experience here: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=96616.350
Frankly resolving peoples incorrect orders from 2 months ago doesnt seem to be a priority for Alf.

I would have to agree that it's pretty worrisome how many GBs are open under ALF's name, and how many of them haven't quite finished.

i belive it's currently eight
G60, dolch cr65, chicory40, dc60, doro67, unigo66, alf x3, x1.1, alf x2
though they're all at different stages
either way, a lot more than the GH mandate of two

It's honestly making me hesitant to get in on this when I was hyped at the announcement.

G60 and Dolch.CR are the new ones.
Alf X3 is handled by Zfrontier (if I recall correctly), ALF fulfilled to ZF long ago.
ALF X2 were fulfilled long time ago. Don't think there is a GH or discord GB.
ALF X1.1 was a private GB in discord, currently fulfilling
Unigo66 is in fulfillment stage (ahead of schedule)
Doro67 all done, waiting for 80ultraman's QC, packing and shipping
DC60, from the official post, 99% were shipped. Some messed up during shipping process and were re-made
Chicory is a manufacturing job, on track.
-
DC60, from the official post, 99% were shipped. "Some" messed up during shipping process and were re-made
First actual shipments went out early november. Some people waited all the way up til mid December for a tracking number only to learn they were never shipped in the first place.
Out of the 110* invoices https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18WDKyw1cqU31tMR_SISaj35k46t56iRoiCByd32u5yE/edit#gid=0
Over 30 KNOWN people joined the discord customer service created by Louis to resolve large issues with their orders. Not everyone uses discord and not everyone wants to deal with their orders publicly so that 30 could be a conservative number for all we know. So frankly the "99% shipped" is not exactly accurate (to be fair it hasnt been updated, but to be updated information needs to be communicated)
Not to mention one of the finishes "grey/greenish" was changed without ANYONES knowledge to Titanium grey.
And to address the need for time to re-manufacture. He initially stated that he WOULDN'T remake the cases. Prompting people to either settle for replacements in different colours, Bstock cases or get refunds. Then without announcement decides to remake the missing cases sometime in mid Dec.
Ontop of that anyone who settled for left overs as replacements still had to wait for re manufacturing to conclude before Alf decided to ship. Again without informing anyone involved.
You are going to have a hard time justifying how the DC60 group buy went. I check the GH thread, Alf Discord, Private DC60 customer service discord several times a day and chat with Louis regularly. Have done since day 1. I know this buy backwards.
Frankly the ONLY reason I didnt just charge back my PayPal is because Louis who has consistently done his best to help is who's paypal we sent money too. So I would be putting Louis in a bad position by charging back the transaction.

Hi, All. I’m not going to defend ALF because G60’s prototype was also delayed for 2 months. Now I going to share something about ALF. The ALF is not quite a precisely operated commercial company, it started by their deep affection for keyboards. They invested money, buying CNC machines and place to manufacture keyboards for the community. Most of them are manufacturing background, so making things is their advantage, and it makes lacking of management and operation their weakness. They do ran into an unfavorable condition because of mismanagement. As what I known, that’s the cause of delay of X1.1 and DC60. Of cause, they’re trying their best to fix these problems.
Speaking of the other running projects like the DCR by Cary, the G60 by me and etc., ALF acts more like an OEM. Take Cary and me for example, of cause we do love keyboards, but we’re not making a living by them. We both have a full time job, Keyboards are our hobby, we discussing, designing, building and making keyboards in our spare time. If our works are loved by the community, we would like to share them through ALF’s manufacturing, and I think this is what the so-call “Group Buy” really is. These “Group Buy” are responsible by its own authors, for the G60 by me, I’m designing, programming, dealing with order forms and sending invoices all by myself. What I have to say is, I cannot guarantee for any unpredictable situations like technical and productive issues, but I do will try my best to avoid and fix them, letting people get their keyboards as soon as possible. This means I really cannot guarantee for the possibility of delay, but it do will not be an unlimited delay. Thank you all for supporting G60 and hoping you can understand. If you want to quit the “Group Buy”, it is totally acceptable before the due date, I’ll refund with no question asked.

Hi Gents and Ladies,
Regarding the concerns above, I have followed the development of the G60.
The designer Scott have done a great work so far on the GB and the dev process.
I personally have invested in this GB and i have no doubt Scott will do a awesome job delivering the G60.
Mentioning quick here what the concerns is about. I have a DC60 myself bought from Louis as he have been working hard to help resolve the DC60 delay issues.
It seems ALF studios have been resolving and have communication about it.
As with all group buys there can be delays as its a custom manufactured product.
So please refer to the proper channels for the concerns, both on the discord channel opened up for the issues on the DC60 and here on GH in the DC60 thread.
I look very forward to the G60 and if there should be delays as they can occur with ALL group buys.. Scott is very forward and honest as you can read his post above.
To quote Photoelectric "As a general reminder to prospective participants "Caveat Emptor. (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=36773.0/)"
-
worst case (as with all group buys) is that we all die before it gets delivered. I have a feeling that won't happen with this one.
-
That's some serious perspective :D

Damn then.. its time to start cut down on the plastic... really want my G60 :p

Can a photo of the plate layout/prototype be posted?
I ordered an ANSI, but my assumptions may be wrong on what the ANSI plate looks like. There is a difference between 60% ANSI and Universal. Personally I need more of a universal layout to have the 5 bottom right keys be 1U keys, along with a 1.75U Shift. Thanks.
I attached my current layout, which I hope works with the plate.

Sorry I didn't post the layouts to the main post. as you can see the picture above, only 4mm plates are divided into ANSI and ISO layout.

Any idea how SF Express packages are delivered to Europe? Regular post or some B2C delivery?
-
I haven't seen any mention of the battery.
- What kind of battery do we need?
- Anyone have a link to decent ones?
- Can we use the battery from an Anne Pro?
- Does the battery only fit in the spot used with the brass plate?
- Does the battery still fit if used with a tray mount?
Thanks in advance!
-
If I install a DZ60 PCB could I split spacebar this setup?
-
If I install a DZ60 PCB could I split spacebar this setup?
You could if you don't mind just using the tray mount.
-

I'd like to know too as postage and import fees can vary wildly depending on the delivery operator.
I'm still scratching my head to calculate how much it would cost to get one and getting delivered in Europe.
-

Use a DZ60 is okay, but all stock plates in this set are not supporting split spacebar layouts, you have to use others universal 60% plate that supports split spacebar layouts. and as what Pwner said above, you have to use the tray mount. anyway, the plate drawing will release after the group buy, you can make your own plate then.

Is the usb/bluetooth switch done by qmk or in hardware? Currently struggling with this on my prototype.

Hey Scott. Can you please answer my questions about the battery? It's just a few posts above
Oh, Deeply sorry for missed that.
Q: What kind of battery do we need?
A:It needs 3.7v Li-Po Battery with PH2.0 Plug
Q:Anyone have a link to decent ones?
A:FYI:https://www.amazon.com/YDL-1200mAh-battery-Rechargeable-Connector/dp/B07BTH6YTM/ref=sr_1_35_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1547441086&sr=8-35-spons&keywords=3.7v+lipolymer+battery&psc=1
Size Limitation: Long< 150mm, Width:<40mm, Height<6.5mm Do please protect the battery from the switches' pins while installed
Q:Can we use the battery from an Anne Pro?
A:Sorry, I don't know what kind of battery Anne Pro used.
Q:Does the battery only fit in the spot used with the brass plate?
A:Yes, otherwise you won't find any other better place for the battery, the battery might be spiked by the switches' pins if you put it under the PCB, that will be very dangerous.
Q:Does the battery still fit if used with a tray mount?
A:Yes, Mounting style is not affecting the using of the battery.

Does the PCB support per-switch RGB?
Thanks.

What's the Bluetooth range on this? I've heard that wireless signals don't travel through metal well.
-

Sorry, Not Supported.

What's the Bluetooth range on this? I've heard that wireless signals don't travel through metal well.
Yes, Radio signals can be blocked by metal and carbon fiber. To enhance the signal, I make a cutout on the plate over the Bluetooth antena, it's under the spacebar, so it can get better reception. Besides this, Bluetooth is easily interfered, it used 2.4Ghz band which also widely used by other radio technologies like WiFi ect.
I did a simple test, compare the G60 with 4mm aluminum plate, a wooden case CAD66_BLE, a naked YD60BLE and the Apple Magic Keyboard, all of the four keyboards are 5m away from my iMac, of course, there are mutiple WiFi signals around. the G60, CAD66_BLE and YD60BLE used the same MDBT40 Bluetooth module, so they should perform almost the same. You can see the images below, the number after "RSSI" stands for the signal strength, the closer to 0 the better signal it is.

As we can see above, the Apple Magic Keyboard (Named System Administrator's Keyboard #1) got the best perform, but the G60 and the wooden case CAD66_BLE is very close, not too worse than the YD60BLE which exposed directly to the air. At this distance, G60 can be used normally. Anyway, In most cases, you will still use your keyboards on desktop, the signal would be much better than this, but I still recommend that put the Bluetooth adapter or dongle as close to the keyboard as you can, don't forget the radio interference. Speaking of the Gaming performance, for myself, I still can feel the delay in Bluetooth mode compared with it is in the USB mode. So, plug the USB in if you want to win.

Thanks for the indepth and thorough answers! It's very much appreciated! I'm definitely considering buying one!
Would you consider selling the Bluetooth PCB on its own?

[attach=1 width=640]
the green area is the battery slot, the red area slot and cutout are canceled. of course you can say it's off center, it's under the top bezel, not on the center of gravity. :thumb:

It looks like that has to be a fairly slim battery, especially if going with tray mount. Is that photo the end product, or are there plans to make a recess in the battery compartment or raise the standoffs for tray mount in height a bit?
-

The photo is not the end product, the slot has enough room for battery that width under 41mm and thickness under 7mm, at this size, it got lots of choices on amazon with a capacity from 1000mah to 2000mah, they can keep G60 working for around 1 month. the slot can't goes any wider, the wider it goes, the thinner the case bottom is, and it's now reaching a limitation, and as I said on post above, no plan and not recommended to install battery under the PCB, the switches pins are very dangerous to a Li-Po battery.

I just ordered Yok Red Pandas for my red G60 with a red plate. https://novelkeys.xyz/collections/frontpage/products/yok-red-pandas
Hopefully Red Cadet gets made.
-
No idea what i'm gonna do for the board yet, lol. I got the WKL NCR grey w/ dark bottom.
Keyset choices: OG dolch, kekkon dolch, 9009 r1, muted, wob, honeywell
I think 9009 would look pretty cool with the warm tone of the NCR ano.

Would you be able to post a couple of photos showing SA keycaps mounted in the case using the top-mount option?
It would be really helpful to know if the bottom of the keycaps are visible, as i want my next case to have the caps sit quite low in the case

Given CNY is on the horizon, we might just extend it to after CNY, since factory will shut down very soon and will open after CNY anyway. I will talk to Scott and see. WIll keep updating.

So, please +1 for gasket inclusion!

G60 opens up tons of possibilities given the space inside that can be used. I am sure if the rubber gaskets are not so expensive Scott will include them for free. Will see if he needs to open up a mold for it (to achieve best fit), if there are affordable ones already made by others and sold in in "made in china" prices it will certainly be ideal.
Please make more noises, as Scott likes innovative suggestions :)

My question is: do you really like metal cases? In the cold days of the winter, there's nothing that irritates me as much as a cold keyboard.
This would be an insta buy for me, if it was made of solid and cheap plastic. Plastic even sounds better.

I love plastic ones too, metal is not what we need but it's the most effective way to put our ideas into realistic, in now days and in product scale this small (usually less than 100 units). 3D printing is great, but you will limited by colors or textures if you need accuracy(SLA), or you have to endure poor accuracy if you need multiple colors(ABS).

How close is the render of the pink case to it in real life? Like is it more like hot pink or salmon, and does it look more like a plastic pink or aluminum pink. How well do you guys think the pink case would go with GMK Olivia or SA Grand Budapest?

that does not look right, gaskets are supposed to go between the plate and the pcb but this looks like it is just on top of both which wouldnt change anything? not to be rude, im just confused

Yeah what
Now, touch a plastic surface, and then a metal surface, like the case of your computer. Both have the same temperature, but the metal one will appear much more cold because it sucks the heat of your fingers at a much faster rate thus appearing to be much colder. And in facts it behaves like it is much colder, because your hands at the end will be noticeably colder.

In reference to the gasket, normally gaskets are custom cut to shape and flat. Not to be overly critical but just adding a round piece of rubber in the kit doesn't add much value. Rubber gaskets can be laser cut but tend to be expensive.

Agree with you. G60 was not initially designed to be a Gasket mount board, but top/tray dual mount. It's just people are requesting that in discord and Scott experimented and found pretty good results :)
Consider it a freebie bonus :)

That said, the rubber rings installed on the screws (both sides) definitely make a significant difference in sound, less metal resonance

So what effect does the gasket actually have? Does it deaden the sound or something?

Part of the kit you will have the correct sizes rubber rings and they will increase flex and dampen the metal sound.
The gasket mounted on the pcb Im not sure I will report something concrete when I get a prototype

Just confirming I was able to connect even 20 meters apart from the computer (using a pc plate in my case). Took my laptop for a meeting earlier today in another building and restarted the laptop, auto-connected to BIOI G60 BLE. Dang, that was amazing.
Also, using Bluetooth has practically no lag at all. The VIA configurator was awesome too, IMO every customized keyboard should adopt the VIA software.

Any connector should charge the battery
Scott, correct me if I am wrong.
This PCB priced @ $42 is a steal.

Yes, the battery is charged by the USB port of the PCB, there is a Li-Po battery charging management chip on board. It can be used on other case but you have to find your way to install battery.

Could I not get a dz60 to make this split spacebar?
Yes, but it would only work if you source your own plate that supports split spacebar, furthermore you would be limited to the tray mount option. But it's possible! :thumb:
-
This will be a good keyboard to actually see the difference between top and tray mount, granted everything else is kept the same. I'm looking forward to it.

Works with tray mount, if you need a top mounted plate, I can provide a custom plate in carbon fiber or PC

Any idea if the case (with HHKB blockers) could fit a boardwalk PCB?
-
I know this case supports different pcb, but will the pcb fit in standard gh60 cases?
Yes!
Thank you. Is this the best option for bluetooth 60 with arrowkeys? seems like it..
Yes atm this is properly your best bet for a gh60 compat Bluetooth PCB with arrow keys + VIA configurable
So helpful thankyou. Thanks for making me look up VIA configurator geeze. Gonna have to put in rgb leds now.

Yes it should be able to since it accepts tray mount

I should not get this plate though, correct? This will be my first 60%, I'm sure it's obvious to experienced builders, but the pic made it look like the plate is for case mount only and I'll need a DZ60 plate to use the pcb in my grid as a traymount?

If you're planning to tray mount your own PCB then you may use whichever universal GH60 compatible plate you want. The plates on offer in this GB are specifically for mounting to the top half of the case. Tray mount means that your PCB is secured to the bottom half of the case on threaded standoff posts.

Just black for CF.

Good. I hate making choices (especially when I don't have something in mind I'm trying to match) and this it my first real custom, but I love the lines of the G80 series and this thing is just adorable
I still can't decide between NCR grey and Everest white (beige) but I'm leaning toward NCR because I have OG beige boards, but no industrial grey ones
-

Haha, yes the g60 is tough in choices, Black CF looks dope with so many choices. So all safe there.
Yeah the g80 series is just a clean classic design. I really look forward to the g60! Talk about a perfect first custom choice ;)
Everest White is WHITE and not beige, so if it can help you make a choice, go with the NCR White, which should be a more toned down white/grey to match the old "beige"
-
Yeah, I went with NCR grey. It'll be harder to match keysets to than silver, but the two tone look from the side looks so sharp that I'll just have to track down something retro
-
Anybody know if this PCB would work?

The layout works with the universal plate option, but I don't know if the kalih hotswaps sockets could interfere with the hight tolerance between the PCB and the traymounts. But your properly OK. I think OP mentioned he would change traymounts screw to m2.5 to have a little more space in there for HS PCBs.
Let's see when OP comes back from CNY, hopefully he can explain it more in detail ^-^
-
Well, I'm in for No Blocker/White/White/Carbon Fiber, I can figure out the PCB situation later.

Nice! A recommendation would be to get a extra plate as they are pretty ( REALLY ) cheap in this GB, + The g60 PCB. You will be happy in the long run ;)

How long does it typically take to get confirmation after filling out the form? I'd really hate to miss something obvious and fail to place my order

Good call, I probably could use just a regular back up plate, whenever @scottwei is back I will need to update the invoice.

I think shipping will be billed when the board is ready to ship - at which time users who joined also had an opportunity to change the address if needed I think.

Did you check with Scott? But still, I guess shipping one PCB from China will still be quite expensive.
-
Still waiting to hear back after offering to pay extra for pcb only.
-
Scott told me a few days ago that shipping just one PCB would be $20-$30. However there might be a GB in the near future for just the PCB.

I could try to add a second PCB to my order and then forward it to you and (assuming you're in the US) it could be cheaper than ordering one yourself, but I don't know if its too late to edit orders
-

Yeah there is usually a base fee for shipping, making shipping PCB too expensive for what it's worth

Dang thats a lot. Guess I'll have to wait for the pcb GB.

Thank you for all your interest in and support for G60. It is a keyboard I hold dear in my heart and spent lots of time on, and Im so happy this GB is a success and we are able to bring premium boards at an affordable price to our friends. We have received a total of 135 orders, and currently 135 invoices were sent and 85 have paid.
Further, we will collect shipping cost right before we ship out, and address changes can be made at that time. If no address change request is made, we will ship to the PayPal address on the invoice. Again, thank you so much and Go G60! :thumb:

Yes, HHKB layout with 7u spacebar is actually sharing the mount holes with the WKL layout, or we have to add 3 more mount holes to the PCB which already have tons of holes on row 5.

Yep I regret not getting in on this when I had the chance lol

G60 GB Status Update: Since the ALF suspended all the production and moving there factory to a new place from late March to early April, they still can not bring back their productivity untill now. G60s are pending for production, so the delay seems almost for sure, I think it will be a month more even if everything goes well after this.

Based on the amount of drama related to Alf lately, please reply with a plan of action once things get sorted out, which is hopefully soon. For example, who is going to manufacture and a timeline. If a new manu is chosen, the whole prototyping stage has to occur again which is a huge delay. Sad. :(
As an aside, really disappointing to have this happen - Alf is sitting on an order from 100 people and now the GB is in question.
-
Latest new by Scott on discord:
ALF is still wiling to finish the G60, and he guarantee the manufacturing will start in 10 days. this is all up to us, if we're willing to change to a new factory, he will accept it.

I'm all for sticking with ALF for manufacture too.
I don't see anyone complaining about the quality of the products they produce regardless of the lineage of the design.

Hi, Everyone, G60 will continue to be manufatured by ALF. the delay might cause runing out of PayPal's 180 days buyer protection, I hope we can keep waiting until G60 is ready for ship. If this is not acceptable, I can give you a refund. Sorry but I can't process something like a re-invoice. Good luck with G60! :thumb:

Sorry guys, I was too busy to update on this post and the spreadsheet for a while. Here's the general progress of G60:
CNC: In progress, about 75% of the work done. 30 more WKL top cases being remake due to a CNC programming mistake.
Coating: Not Started yet.
PCB: On SMT progress.
Plate: All non-matel plates done.

Any updates?

Replying here as well on the situation with Alf. TLDR: He abandoned a live GB and left people without parts or boards, without any refunds. If you have any doubts get out of this GB as well.
So I'm not part of this group buy but I've only recently found out Alf is still manufacturing. I am part of the x1.1 group buy which is definitely not completed. People are still awaiting replacement parts and even someone who never received a board at all. After the drama about faking boards I assumed he wasn't manufacturing at all and I had to chalk this one up as a loss. But since he's still manufacturing there is absolutely no reason to abandon x1.1 and leave people hundreds of $ out of pocket.
The quality control on the brass parts for our boards was terrible they should never have shipped, plate and weight very scratched. And my board come silver when I ordered titanium grey. He promised replacement brass for everyone but barely anyone has received it. My case colour I never got a response on he was just adamant the lighting was different but I did direct comparisons with other people's boards and it it not even similar. The group buy started September something like that and was meant to run for 4-8 weeks, short GB but like 20 slots. It was march before anything started shipping. And when we realised stuff wasn't getting resolved it was well past the 6 month PayPal deadline for claims.
Whether I (or anyone else in the x1.1 GB) gets their order finally fulfilled is here nor there, what does concern me is that a well known manufacturer is able to operate like this and people are still running group buys through him. That should not happen until he's finished the other group buy or at least commited to sorting out the problems around other work.
Thanks

Hi all,
After a long wait I was lucky enough to receive my unit. The shipping was extremely fast and the packing was well secured.
The quality is awesome, franckly beyond my expectations. I feared that the white would be more glossy, like a car paint, but it is really soft to the touch.
I'm sorry for all of you that are still waiting for ALF to finish ano (atm only white units are done).

Please post an update.
Everyone is looking for updates. On July 2nd Scott posted a list of parts that needed to be reworked (didn't specify if it was CNC rework or anodisation). He also mentioned after that, that he is trying to get quotes for shipping to each country. This is the list of reworks: July 2nd update https://imgur.com/a/MTeoEfO

Hi Scott, it has been roughly 1 year and 5 months since the GB has ended.
If possible, please post an update regarding progress made with the international shipping quote and the current progress with remaining cases that still need to be reworked.
I am sure everyone would appreciate the information shared and an estimated timeline of when we can expect this GB to be concluded.

Scott Wei.... Update... Please...

Still waiting for an update from Scott Wei on this GB, many of us from the international GB have not received our boards and it appears Scott is ignoring our messages/ghosted the group. If you know Scott Wei's contact number please send him a nudge and inform him that we are looking for an update...

I think ALF said they would stop making any more keyboards after they finish the ones they were currently involved in (this is a long time ago now). This particular a GB closed in Feb 2019 and it still waiting for some boards to ship.
If ALF have not been banned, then they probably should be.

After their team was resolved they ran into more logistic problems, kind of bad luck for those who did not expect to wait that long.
For some longer running GBs, I was one of those who got into the "Xeno" 75% board GB, when "gasket mount" was no where to find yet. Can't remember when did that GB start.
