[IC] Terminal 60% HHKB Layout (Rendering Prototype)

Terminal
UPDATE Dec-12-2023
IC Form

Hello everyone, I'm kwk236 from San Francisco!

I'm super excited to share a project that's close to my heart. As a software engineer, I've always been a big fan of the HHKB keyboard layout. This passion led me to create my very own keyboard version, tailored to be the perfect blend of style and functionality. Here's a sneak peek at what makes it special:

1. It's got a cool, minimalist look with a sharp focus on the quality of the metal finishes.
2. Acoustics and typing experience - it must be super satisfying and comfortable. Minimized vibration and reduced high pitch sounds.
3. Great for coding marathons or gaming sessions.

Now, diving into the specs:

* Dimensions: 294mm x 111mm x 20mm x 35mm.
* Typing Angle: 6 degrees.
* Layout Options: Two variants – HHKB and 60%, both accommodated in identically sized cases.
* Mounting System: Poron Gasket Mount style for a seamless feel.
* Detachable Bottom Weight: Brass or Copper
* Material Choices: Aluminum, Titanium, or Stainless Steel
* Metal Finishes: hairline / mirror polish / aerospace
* Space Bar: A centered 7u space bar
* PCB: Custom-designed PCB, but it is also compatible with the h60.
* Dampener: Merino wool felt bottom dampener
* Construction: Internal screws ensure a sleek exterior with no visible holes.

Also, I'm excited to announce that the prototype is in the manufacturing phase. Stay tuned for updates!

If it fits a standard size 60% PCB, what's the point of a custom PCB (other than vanity)? It doesn't look like there's anything happening here to warrant the additional effort, cost and risk of a custom PCB versus a known commodity PCB.

What is the estimated price?

They're listed in the IC:
Titanium ($1000+)
Stainless Steel ($800+)
Aluminum ($350+)

Which is quite rough, I'm sure the aluminium one could be at least $100 less.

Wow that is insane, was expecting an entry level price like tofu or qk60.

The price is a conservative estimate with everything (brass weight and dampers) packaged together.

I am negotiating with the manufacturers to lower the price. But for the Aluminum, it is very hard to manufacture this below $250 without sacrificing the quality as this is a two piece item with added complexity with gasket mounts. Adding costs for wool felts, brass weight, rubber stops, gaskets, screws, etc... the cost alone is easily $300+.
Now that is under assumption that this will be manufactured in small quantity, the price can go down if there's more demand - I'll keep yall updated on this.

This is 3 years too late, all the idiots already left the hobby

Clearly you're also 3 years too late to leave.

350 entry for this is a tough sell. Also next time don't post an IC until you have a prototype.

Do you have an estimated weight for each of the materials?

I am committed to maintaining full transparency and I am not looking for idiots. It's important to me that I avoid making any promises regarding a low price that I cannot uphold. I want to ensure that there are no surprises with sudden price increases later on.

I liked this and am comfortable with the higher prices a for premium materials. Thank for pulling this project together.

Great for coding marathons or gaming sessions.

Are you writing about normal HHKB or your project? You don't have proto so how would you know that it's grate for "coding marathons and gaming"
