Kinda disappointed we no longer get hand written addresses done in fancy fonts.

Yeah I'm working on something to replace that but it seriously took hours to do everyone's addresses. Hopefully the tradeoff is more content and Volumes.

And where are my pictures? ;)

Now that I've shipped volume 5, I'm trying to put something together fast for the NC Meetup. I've tentatively called it Vol 5.5. I'm definitely going to table the zines there. Been working on some photos for some photozines too.

Oh and in collab with Hoff and anyone else who wants to help there, I'll be making a photozine documenting our adventures at the NC meetup.

And planning for vol 6 has started.

I should also point out I'm looking to move away from Ohio so that's been taking up a lot of my time.

Something along those lines. I wanted to do something handwritten or like letters cut from a magazine but this took less time than those 2 ideas lol. I'm in a bit of a time crunch right now.

I went out of town over the Memorial Day weekend and I am trying to prep for the trip for the NC meetup. So I didn't get the chance to mail these out yet. Please bear with me and if I don't get them out today, they will definitely be out next week.

A recent issue that came up: I was using a vinyl printer at the Cincinnati Public Library Makerspace. They didn't really care what I printed and it was dirt cheap to print stickers. However the machine has become so popular, especially since school is out, that reservations need to be put in so that you can get time on the machine. The reservation system is complete garbage and allows people to book up to 3 weeks out. It's not a calendar so you spend tons of time plugging info into these drop down menus and pray that the time is available. Otherwise you get kicked and have to restart the reservation process. In the last few weeks, I haven't been able to reserve any time at all. It's seeming more and more like I will have to find someone to print stickers for me and charge for them like I did with the other Merch Sale stickers. I'll post updates if I think the Makerspace is still viable or if I need to move to a different printer.

Had some foil stickers and postcards made in time for the NC meetup.

Our stand is that of the proletariat and of the masses. For members of Tactile, this means keeping to the keeping to the buckling spring spirit.

These foil stickers are nice and reflective. You can even take a selfie in them.

Update:

I've been traveling a lot for fun and for other reasons. I'm also on a new job hunt. So I've not really given much time to Tactile lately.

I've got the Vol 5.5 mini-zines printed but not folded yet. I plan on getting those out soon. Then hopefully working on the crowdsource photozine soon. I have a vague idea of what I want Vol 6 to be and I also want to try branching out to zines that aren't keyboard related. I definitely want to explore typography, graphic design, and photography.

Hopefully I'll be posting the foil stickers and postcards I had made up on the Merch Thread soon. So if you're interested, keep an eye out for that.

I've been quiet for a little while so here's an update. Been dealing with a lot of IRL stuff and the zine hasn't been a priority for me lately. I'm still unsure when I'll have time and motivation to get back to it. I'm hoping soon because I'm still sitting on a stack of new zines to fold and send out. And I'm picking up prints for a potential photozine today. It's been a weird year for me. It's definitely not dead, just on hiatus until IRL stops with it's nonsense.

Just wanted to say that the week following the meetup in asheville where i grabbed all these issues, I had to spend a lot of time in airports getting to and from a family emergency. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and rereading these as a distraction. You do a great job of making things interesting to read.

Motivation is back. I'm working on a new collab with a novelty cap maker so stay tuned for that. I'm AFK next week but I'm hoping to ship back orders and the new zine by mid August. Hopefully a new zine before September or October depending on the job hunt. Got some new product to share in the Merch Thread and hopefully gonna throw together a photozine or two soon.

And now a little PSA from me to ya’ll:

Thank you.

For about four years I’ve been an active member on geekhack. I stayed up to shoot ClackFactory emails, learned to hate solder braid, mailed out hundreds of pounds of keyboards, and started a thing called Tactile. My little zine, geekhack, and keyboards were an all-consuming passion for years and I truly enjoyed my time on the site. The hobby allowed me to travel, meet great people, and even publish an article.

Unfortunately I think it’s time to move on from this hobby. This means that Tactile as it exists right now will come to an end. I’ve got one last mini-zine and a few of the older Volumes printed. Those will be distributed or sold through geekhack soon.

For the last year or so I have been getting into photography and in particular, film photography. I think it’s a natural extension from my time on geekhack, which inspired me to pick up my first camera anyways. My goal with Tactile is to move it from a narrow keyboard focus to a blog or website that produces zines. The vibe will continue to be very nerdy but it will incorporate my nerdiness in other places. Not focusing on just keyboards.

So I’m not sure if this is where I say goodbye but I think I say come join me as I try to take Tactile in a new direction. If in the past you donated, commented, or subscribed, I sincerely thank you for what you did. I’ll be forever thankful that my creative venture was funded by people who supported what I was doing.

If you want to follow me as I start a new adventure, please keep an eye on TactileZine.com or @tactilezine on Instagram. You can expect content very soon.

Good luck in whatever you do in the future, the zines were great to read (and your insta is always fire  ;) )

Just happened to come across one of your stickers while unpacking some boxes last weekend.

Good luck on your travel for discovery. :)
