Alas, somebody asked Cherry and they said no way would they ever sell keys separately.  I suspect there is equipment still at the German and Chinese equivalent of Signature gathering dust somewhere.

Anyway, my point is it never hurts to ask if Signature has the molds for different arrows.

Ah, sorry! I did not think of that. I thought you where again complaining about SP-keys are not sturdy enough, or so.

I will ask Mrs. Signature about that arrow issue.

Have to consider this, missing those Alt Gr-s atleast for {[]}, makes me bit uneasy...

Thought it will look much better this way. Also, ...

..., there exist keyboards in German layout, without that {[]}-stuff in the number row.

But I will see what I can do. It's not my layout, so if you like it that way, I don't want to complain.

The numbers will be slightly larger than in my layout-samples. But if you mean just plain 1234567890 for the number row, I think I will put this into the next poll.

It's really strange, one wants 3 or even more symbols squeezed onto a key, the other wants just one.

Black or grey? It's your choice![1]

Count me in!  I love the dolch/round one color scheme and big centered legends; that was really a perfect set imo.

Thanks for doing this!

*Edit: i may even take two of the standard sets

I will set up a 2nd poll about those extras today.

The gamer kit will at least include orange keys for WASD, ESDF, RDFG, 4 arrow-keys, Forward (or forth, or Forw), Back, Left, Right, plus an orange GeekHack-key.

okay, help me out here, I'm a noob.
What's the reason for those replacement caps?

Why would I slap those on a Filco? Pure aestehtics?

Silly question: a German replacement set obviously won't fit an US layout keyboard, right?

There are two reasons. You are correct to say aesthetic reasons but there's also the fact that these are double shot keys. Double shot keys have the legends/letters moulded into them in a different coloured plastic. So where Filco's printed legends will wear off, double shot legends will last as long as the rest of the key.

The German set will only be made up of keys not in the US "standard" set. If you have a German layout keyboard buy the standard set PLUS the german set to give you everything you need to completely replace your keys.

Most european layouts are based on ISO. Ignoring legends the basic ISO layout is different to the ANSI layout used in the US (Note the left hand shift key and the return key).

Welcome to Geek Hack!

These replacements are for:
- people who own a keyboard with lasered (read: low quality) key caps
- people who need/want extra keys to satisfy their asorted tastes (POSers/Gamers/Geeks/Programmers/System-nerds;-).
- aestetics (click at my Cherry G80-3000HPCUS-2 link below, to see the difference).

Except for that J-shaped Return and that 1 1/4 width left Shift, they will fit an US-ANSI keybaord. Same for any of those national layouts.

preparation for additional poll
« Reply #117 on: Fri, 17 December 2010, 07:58:22 »
Are there any wishes for additional kits, special languge or alternate layouts?

I ask, because  I have got 3 poll-options left for the next poll and don't know what else to include.

here is what I've got so far:

  • POS kit (including 1-space modifier, 2-space keys to fit over 2 stems (if possible), 1234567890 for top row)
  • Orange (gamer stuff) kit
  • Toy kit (orange key cap puller)
  • Top-Row supplement kit (`~ to =+, 13 keys)
  • ES kit
  • FI kit
  • NO kit

I added the scheme for Colemak. Please notice that Backspace in the Caps Lock position is missing. Rub Out is part of the modifier kit, but if this is not OK for Colemak-fetishists, I can add Backspace at no extra charge, given that at least 25 sets are sold.

You can have/use them free of charge.

In reality these are created with TeXdraw. I created a background image and once I finished a sheet, I put it on top of that background and save it as PNG.

And if they can pop ASCII into a machine they can print this.  I can't even imagine the millions of dollars Signature plastic is leaving on the table, the unimaginative sots.
ಠ_ಠ

I will ask if they can make a ಠ_ಠ key. The 2 a-s sideways with an underscore should not be much of a problem. Don't know if they have these "a with dot in the middle" in stock.

If you want that Awesome-face, then draw a graphic with all measures, such that SP can create it. It will cost $$$, but if there are enough people who want to pay for it, I will include it as an extra.

PS: wait a second!  I said: no symbols!

So there will be an AWESOME FACE key included -- period!

I count your vote in.

Anyway, ...
Code: [Select]

Standard kit ...... $50   51
UK kit ............. $7    7
AT/DE/SE kit ...... $14    5
FR kit ............ $13    1
NL kit ............ $12    0
Colemak kit ........ $5    8
Dvorak kit ......... $8    2
Modifier kit ...... $18   18
Numeric kit ....... $10   11
Function kit ...... $10   16

The only kits which would not happen right now are FR, NL and Dvorak.

UK, AT/DE/SE and Colemak will be a bit more expansive if everybody takes only one set.

For Modifier, Numeric and Function you have to add at least 5 (for myself), so these are quite near the 25 sets minimum.

I'd prefer the alpha symbols to be a bit smaller.

And a suggestion for an extension pack: the darker keys in the lighter shade.

Before I vote/commit, I just want something clarified.  So does the Standard Kit ($50+S&H) consists of:
- standard 104 keys (w/sterile numpad keys, text cursor keys, super instead of win/apple/other keys)
- stepped Control + Caps Lock
- wide flat Control (to replace std caps lock)
- 2x Geek Hack keys
- standard 4 arrow keys

for a total of 113 key caps?

I ask because the standard arrow keys aren't pictured in the Standard-Layout picture and the other additional 5 are pictured.

Orange blanks will happen (at least for single-sized keys). I'm not sure about the other colors. I keep that on the list for the next poll.

Now that I think of it, these orange blanks could look awesome mixed with black blanks. I'd definitely buy a set.

Boy, I'm so in when those are an option.
Colored / Orange blanks. way too yummy!!!

*edit*

Blank ctrl shift, alt, backspace and enter keys would be killer tho...

In black these are not too much of a problem (ie pricy), because they could be produced along the other black keys with labels on them in one batch. But orange modifiers will need 25 sets to be ordered.

I will put that into the next poll.

Well, you can count me as 2, since I'd be ordering 2 sets of orange modifiers.

I'm liking the orange set now it has a lot more than just wasd, so I expect I'd have a set or two as well.

Just ordered myself a tenkeyless filco, so count me in for a set. Some of my preferences would be for an orange WASD, all black Function keys, and arrows on the arrow keys. Plus a non-windows windows keys would be nice since I am a linux user. Looks like the 'Super' and 'Meta' will work perfectly.

Nope!

Meta is Meta and Alt is Alt and Windows is Crap!!!

To be serious:
I know what you mean: Meta and Alt are usually mapped to one key: Alt.

The reason is, because Emacs employs the Meta key for 'buit-in' functions[1]. On the Symbolics keyboards, there is no Alt key (there is an Alt Lock, however). So there had been no function tied to Alt in Emacs. Not even user-defined. Because of that, it is safe to map Meta and Alt to one key.

[1] there is nothing really 'built-in' in a fully customizable editor like Emacs.

OK, valid point. But I've yet to see any UNIX like OS that didn't have meta mapped to alt.

Windows is still super though :-P.
