Can't you order 4 blank caps of same type? Who cares about those buttons anyway, I'd use them as decoration or nothing at all.

I had the same issue with the CM Storm Trigger.  Bought a 104-key set of black side-printed PBT keycaps, then realized there were five additional macro keys on the left.  D'oh!

Realistically, doesn't look too bad with the stock caps on those keys, they're black as well.  Not sure what you'll find to fill in, but there are a lot of options for that row!

Guys is it normal for some keys to have letters than are 'off' take these functions keys as an example, the bottom of the F is partially covered on some of them....

tl;d looking at F6 then the others they look weird

Also are there supposed to be holes in the tops of the keys? You can see the backlight coming through.

I've got thick pbts and they're awesome. I'd still prefer some GMK doubleshots though - they're the ultimate caps in my mind.

I believe that the Ducky caps are just painted so maybe its bad quality control? And maybe those holes are from the tooling? I don't have a Backlit Ducky so I'm not sure

The slight imperfections in the legends seems to be common. I have some on my Ducky and some on my GF's Ducky as well.

The small holes on the back of the keycaps is where the caps themselves break off of the plastic sprue.

These are both things that your only going to notice if you are actually looking for them unless you're a dwarf sitting at a high desk with your nose on the keyboard :)

If your looking that hard for imperfections, your going to find them on every keyboard you buy.

Anyone know if a Cherry G80-8113HRBUS-2 is plate or pcb mounted switches/stabs?  I googled but can't seem to tell from pictures.

Generally Cherry G80 is PCB mount, but not ALL of them. Though the platemount models like the 045*, 077*, 092* are not come across too often in the open market. The new 3850 is also a platemount.
However it is still safer to assume it is PCB mount as that is far more common with Cherry. MX 8000 series is all PCB mount.

There's a lube guide here but I believe you'll have do desolder the switches before lubing them. Some people have said you can flood the switch with lube but it sounds like a bad idea.

Thanks! I guess since the Filco is plate mounted, there is no way of taking the tops off without desoldering it first :(.

Some plates do allow it but those are custom ones (The_Beast and WFD made those plates IIRC). The stock ones that come w/ the boards don't have those cutouts that allow you to remove the tops.

Within the firmware for the Phantom is it possible to reassign keys to mouse clicks and scroll wheel functions?

If so would it be theoretically possible to hack the firmware in a Razer Naga Epic to plug it directly into an additional port on a Phantom so that the firmware just sees this as an extended 10 key pad?

What i would LOVE to do would be this so I can bind Fn commands to the mouse at the firmware level.  The 12 buttons on the side of the mouse show up to the computer as keyboard keys anyway.  Just wondering if this is possible?

It is but there isn't any way to set it up for a modifier key to transfer over to the mouse.  That was why I was wondering if there was a way to plug the mouse into the keyboard as a 10 key extension of said keyboard.

Simple questions, simple answers, love this idea and wish every forum had a thread like this.  Here goes my noob questions.  I am building a ergodox and have ordered a set of blue switches but I am not sure if I am going to love them.  The ergodox is a plate mount board (although the pcb supports pcb mounted switches) so knowing nothing about disassembling and modding switches, if I plate mount them do I need to unsolder them to be able to modify the internals, say I wanted to to make my blues ergo clears, or jailhouse blues, could I do that all from on top of the plate, or would it require unsoldering the switches?

If the plate is a problem, could I just use pcb mounted switches instead and just cut out the center part of the layer that has the switch plate so I could get to it easily later?  I want to be able to tweak this keyboard and am ready to solder my switches in but am hesitant now that I am to the stage where I would solder the switches on with the plate in between the switches and the pcb as I really don't want to be in a situation where I have to unsolder every damn switch if I decide I want stiffer springs on my home keys or something like that.

You could get a black shift, OEM profile, from wasdkeyboards. Might not be a perfect match, but probably as close as you'll get without starting a WTB and hoping someone will break their set, or maybe have to just buy a whole new set. Or join a GB!

Thanks for the reply!

Is the finish from WASD a bit different than the ones from the OEM Filcos? The WASD's look more textured while the OEM Filcos look more satin-smoothish.

I'm a long way from being able to create a WTB tread D: .

And the thread I was talking about earlier was this. More info on those keycap set boxes can be found here.

true would probably work on a non stepped cap though.  I would love to get on IRC with you and bounce some ideas but i have to say I am up WAY past my bed time with working 12 hour days for the next week and a half or so.  Plus its 7pm to 7 am.  I probably can't give you a reliable time of when i will be on this weekend but will be on monday morning after work.

Melvang out for the weekend

You guys are worse crack for me than Farcebook.  and even WoW.

Melvang, I'm often on IRC as well if you wanna hop in and chat about ideas. :D
