Replacing PCB

Soldering question:

I'm going to replace a major pcb in a reel to reel tape deck; the replacement board was removed from another deck. In addition to several pin connectors, there are about 50 wires that will need to be severed from the existing pcb and soldered to the replacement board. Each existing wire was attached to a post, wrapped six or so times, then soldered in place. I think it would be easier to attach the wires together by strip, solder, and shrink wrap rather than attempting to solder existing wires directly to the mounting posts on the replacement board. It would be very difficult to remove the old wraps, require lots of heat. Is mating the wires as I suggest an acceptable method? Or should I try for direct connection? Hope question is clear.
