Ultimate Profile
« on: Fri, 12 July 2013, 10:59:18 »
You may have noticed some changes to your user profile page.  I've integrated some nice enhancements that you can configure via "Ultimate Profile" in your profile settings.  Once enabled, you can share a description of yourself, your keyboards, your projects, pictures, etc.  You can also add buddies and other users can leave comments on your profile.

Enjoy!

Could you possibly link to or explain how to get there? I've spent much time in the settings, but I can't seem to find that option...

Do you just modify profile and edit buddies?

Oh, that is what is used to limit classifieds posting.  I removed it from the old profile and I'll probably do the same here.

Not sure about the buddies thing.  I'll take a look.

Keep reporting bugs and I'll sort them out soon.  The package is a little long-in-the-tooth, but is the best I could find for SMF.  I fixed all of the obvious problems, but I guess I didn't try everything.

Ok so can comments be deleted because I've already 'double posted' on someone's profile! :P

Leave it me to do that.....

They can be, and that double post is already deleted.

LOL, that was my exact thought as well! :D

rknize, is there a way that the notifications for comments can be separate from PMs?

OK, so to add a buddy you are supposed to go to that person's profile and click "Add to Buddy List" under "Contact Me".

It would not appear so, but you can disable them with "Disable new comments notification".

Can we have something which shows you which button to press to accept a buddy request? Its kinda hard to work out which one it is, without hovering over each of the options?

Cheers!

I think the intent is to do it more like a blog post, but a "reply with quote" option would be nice.

Is there any way to add Overclock.net-style rig-builder-like function to be able to be more descriptive about our keyboard projects?  For example, I'd like to write a blurb for each of my keyboards with photos--like a "build log", and it'd be best to have a dedicated section rather than link a thread from elsewhere.

There's an entire section called "Interests". Couldn't you just put it there? Or under "Media" where it even supports HTML/CSS?

I saw that, but the edit window is small (thought could be increased), so it looked like it's for something concise.  If it's okay to put longer stuff there, that's cool then!

The size limit is 65,535 characters, so you should be good.  I tested really long posts there and they worked fine.  The only issue was that the section displays in its entirety without scroll bars.  That is something I could add if they get too unwieldy.

OK, I've reimplemented the "Add Buddies" feature to the buddies list and fixed some UI issues in there.  The way old buddies were stored is wildly different that the new ones, so unfortunately anyone using that feature will need to re-add those people.  Sorry about that.

It should support BBcode, though I haven't tried it.

To put an image in there with HTML, you would:
Code: [Select]
<img src="http://somehere.net/myimage.jpg">

bbcode was the first thing I tried. It just displays the code. For example, if I wanted to link an image, it will say
Code: [Select]
[img]http://yourimg.jpg[/img] instead of a picture.

Ultimate Profile is fun!  Only couple issues I've had so far are
  • Can't use forum format in the "Media" section--only plain text or full HTML.  Was a bit frustrating, as editing HTML is slower.  I was able to use BBcode in the "About me" section, but not in the "Media" section =/
  • Can't figure out how to add to the "Profile Pictures" section.  I was able to create an album, but not actually add anything to it.  Unless completely overlooked a button to add stuff--entirely possible.

Pictures are a little unintuitive.  You need to go to Show Pictures and then click Add Picture.  For the media section...I know what you mean.  I think the goal was to be able to display things not supported by BBcode, but it may also pose a possible security risk.  I may convert it to a BBcode field instead.

Not that I'm a stalker-type or anything...but why is there no "Show Posts" option in the ultimate profile?

Stalking is fun! Hover over 'Profile Info' and it should pop up or that's what mine does anyways.

Maybe we could get a section somewhere for the most recently updated profile pages, to keep people looking at them?

Aww, super awesome ultimate profile looks like it's back to normal profile.

Just go to profile > Modify Profile > Ultimate Profile and check the box to turn it on. I believe it was on by default at first.
How do I do this again?

I am using Nostalgia and I have Ultimate Profile entry third from top, between Forum Profile and Look and Layout.

Maybe try flushing your browser cache?
