I did this mod a little while ago, but feel it's worth sharing again.
Cyan QFRDirections for opening your case and painting it:
1. Break the warranty sticker on the back, unscrew the Philip's head screw under it.
2. Slip a putty knife under the front or rear lip and gently lift up, working from one end to the other. DO the same on the other side. What you're doing here is popping the tabs out so you can slip the shell off. I prefer starting from the front, but front or rear is fine.
3. Go to town on the rubberizer with sandpaper. I start with a heavy grit and move to a fine grit once plastic starts showing and finished with a 400 grit or finer sandpaper. Sand off all of the rubberizer. Either brush the dust off or rinse it off and let it dry. I did the latter.
5. Apply plastic primer. I use Montana Gold Plastic Primer, but others can be used.
4. Paint with your paint of choice. Mine was Montana Gold since I get full coverage in a coat or two. Just make sure it's a paint that doesn't react with plastic. Make sure to let the paint dry or, at the very least, get to the point of being just barely tacky before applying a second coat. Ideally you want to let it dry completely and do a light sanding with a fine grit sandpaper just fine enough to get rid of any orange peeling.
5. Seal it. I used a matte clear coat and did a few coats. I used Rustoleum, but Duplicolor has one that may be nicer. You can do a shiny or matte coat. If you want it completely matte, you could do clear PlastiDip over the clear coat.

I'm looking at doing a novel coating to another case, but it's a little pricey to do, so I'm debating.
