Ok so the boards Ponoko offers are really big for the size parts we need... I was able to fit 7 sets of diffusers on a single sheet!  At Ponoko you pay per sheet size, not per cut so it doesn't make sense to get a single set cut out from this huge piece of acrylic.  It cost $48 (w/shipping) for the sheet (yikes).


Anyone who needs a set of these just PM me and pay for shipping, a $5 contribution towards cost and I'll send you a set!  Also below is a link to the sheet if you want some obscure material (wood, black out acrylic, a different tint etc.).  The sheet size selected is the absolute smallest that would accommodate the front-side diffuser.  Also, the set I ordered is materials>plastic>acrylic>opal.  The thickness required is .118" or 3mm.


On the Zeal Stabs issue:  Can someone send me a pic of exactly what is happening?  Size, location of the stab causing issues on the diffuser etc.  I think I have some around here somewhere (yeah, I'm being lazy).  Maybe I can mod the drawings to accommodate the stabs and then you guys can just order a new custom set! No need to melt the diffusers lol.

I'm kinda annoyed by the fact that I cannot use Zeal's screw on stabs... At least not w/o having to tape the contact points on the PCB and modifying the acrylic spacer.

If anyone figures out the best way to get them in w/o also breaking their diffuser please post about it!

Same here waiting for a solution, we could ask either zeal or elton to figure our a way to solve this problem

As said above you could probably sand the diffuser but you would need to be very careful as acrylic is very prone to cracking when too much force is applied incorrectly

Perhaps we can use a soldering iron and just melt a hole in it...

Wish I had thought of that before I built my keyboard. I just used a PCB mount housing with Zeal stab stem and wire.

Well I have good news for anyone that wants/needs replacement light diffusers.  Duck was gracious enough to email me the CAD drawings.  He is such an awesome dude! Hey everyone! I have heard that Duck keyboard can be a pain in the ass to program, ranging from errors in O2D and bricking PCBs.  It seems that O2D 1.10 is a lot more stable.  I managed to flash my keyboard on the first try, so here's a write I did for the keyboard.  I did not play around with the LEDs at the moment as they are turned off.

Definitely in for zeal stab compatibility. So this probably means I'll use zeal stabs for now and just not put in the bottom acrylic. Really hope this works out since I am so done with non-screw in stabs.

2) I'll get mine tomorrow and can take some measurements if needed. Not sure I 100% understand where the clearance on the Zeal stabs is problematic on the front spacer. I also found some very flat-headed screws today at work- hoping there might be an easy hardware swap fix since the Zeal stabs do have those lovely gold screws, but they have a significant head. If that perhaps fixes it, I'll send everyone who needs them screws.

Ok so, I mostly completed my build (just gotta solder the SIPs and flash firmware) and put in Zeal stabs on it and found that while the screw heads are kinda big and pressed on the bottom acrylic, it seemed to fit fine if not a little tight once the whole case is screwed together. 

Dunno if it'll snap the acrylic but it didn't seem to put enough pressure to do so, but I guess I'll find out sooner or later. Pretty happy with getting to keep screw in stabs tho.

PSA: If you are using long legged sip sockets for LED's, the bottom acrylic diffuser will have clearance issues. You can make this work by utilizing a flush cutter and snipping off the extra length off the sip sockets.

Ok wow, so more people need Zeal compatibility than I realized.  I'll stop being lazy now.  I have the board, the stabs, calipers and a brain -- no excuses.  I'll redraw the .eps files for Zeal Stab compatibility over the next 2 or so days.  One suggestion is to wait for the original diffuser sets I ordered to come in before placing an even larger order for the Zeal-diffusers... just to make sure the acrylic works well with light diffusion, the thickness is right and there aren't any other flaws with production.  Should only make the wait a few days longer and worth it IMO. I will have the new drawings ready to go way before the first "stock batch" comes in...  When we're ready we can expedite the second order.

As far as the electrical shorts caused by the screws... Is this only happening in a few select locations on the PCB?  Just looking at it I think I can see what's happening but just curious on other's experiences.  Is there pin-pointed trouble areas?  I was thinking that a painted-on electrical insulation might be ideal here.

So for the shorts, I was planning on using teflon tape for them but I look forward to the updated diffusers!

Hi, does anyone have files for the plate for the Viper/Eagle? I'm trying to make a plastic case for my second pcb because this is the nicest keyboard I've ever typed on and I really want a case for the second PCB.
