In the same boat here. Love that R5.

Excited to see this set come back for round 2, but why no blue Pipe or Grave in Base kit?
-
I have a standard 104-key keyboard and have a question:
The Classic Base kit shows the Shift key row and the spacebar row both being R4. The True Cadet set, which looks like it would support a standard 104-key keyboard, has an R4 row for the shift keys but an R5 row for the spacebar, ALT, CTRL, etc.
If I buy the Classic Base kit and True Cadet kits, can I replace the spacebar row of keys from the Classic Base kit with the corresponding keys from the True Cadet set? If so, then shouldn't the keys from one kit be the same height as the corresponding keys from the other kit? Is the R4 labeling on the Classic Base kit and/or the R5 labeling on the True Cadet kit a typo? I must be missing something here.

This is not a mistake, those are indeed two different bottom row profiles. Some prefer R4 for their bottom row, others prefer R5. True Cadet offers the ability to convert the set to a R5 bottom row while at the same time changing the set to have the last two rows to be black modifier legends like the original keyboard this set is based on has.

Do many other GMK keycap sets offer an R5 bottom row? I don't think I've ever even seen that before.

Not many. Triumph Adler R2 had a R5 addon kit, GMK Carbon R2 had R5 bottom row, GMK ASCII, that's about as much as I can list off the top of my head.

9009 R3 used R5 bottom row. I think that sorta kickstarted the recent trend.

Nuclear Data, 9009, and Dolch r5 also had R5 bottom row.

I would say Triumph Adler and Carbon R2 did. Triumph Adler put out a R5 kit that was limited to 1u, 1.5u and 2.u keys and this sort of reintroduced that profile to the community, like a reminder that it exists. Then Carbon R2 gave us molds for 1.25u keys, which future sets could then use to have standard layout coverage with R5.

Completely agree.
That I know of, these are the sets with R5, listed in order of GB end date:
4/5/2015 GMK Triumph Adler (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=70278.0) just R5 (no 1.25u)

Ah, yeah good call. I forgot Carbon R2 filled in the missing compatibility of TA. I stand by my statement that 9009 R3 kicked off the recent popularization tho. Especially when you consider the nearly one year gap between the two sets and the 300% difference in base kit sales.

Just for the sake of completeness, GMK Iris (+R0), GMK Blue Alert, one early round of GMK Originative (and Originative Cyrillic), one round of GMK Sky Dolch via Originative, as well as GMK KA1953 from the Chinese community and some other GMK classic beige runs from long ago had R5 support predating TA90.

Out of curiosity, how close will R1 vs R2 be for the blue plastic? Can I mix and match the R1 Blue kit with the R2 modifiers without them being obviously different?

it looks like there are still some slots available here: https://oblotzky.industries/products/gmk-space-cadet-ii?variant=36103594573992
(although at a higher price than the GB, but at least the set would be reserved and you don't need to hunt for the extras)

Isn't missing 1U "Fn" keycap in base/any set for HHKB layout?

My second GMK set delivering (first was MoDo) out of like 20 that I joined since June 2020. And first one from Oblo! Going on my AIS65, making it the first full-Oblo board in my collection. Sweetness. /J
