[GB] GMK Boneyard (CLOSED)
« on: Fri, 05 June 2020, 09:17:13 »
GMK Boneyard

Group Buy is active from June 5th 2020 to July 3d 2020
Est. Shipping Dates will be between February and April 2021

Hello everyone and welcome to Group Buy for GMK Boneyard. GMK Boneyard was an optional colorway offered in GMK Carbon R2 in 2018 and it was quite expensive to get, if you consider that you had to get a base kit and the boneyard alphas. So in order to make it more accessible i decided to run it as standalone set with more competitive pricing ;)
Additionally it offers some unique novelty variations which were not available in GMK Carbon R2. You should also keep in mind that those novelties can be combined to some extent with previous version of GMK Carbon and partially with GMK Oblivion (Oblvion mods base color is the same as used in Carbon). So all in all there is some room for mix and match available ;)

Link to GMK Boneyard Interest Check thread.

Vendors:

Base kit

The base kit offers only the necessary key for 60%, 65%, TKL, WKL, 100% and 1800er layouts. I do expect the base kit to get very competitive pricing.

40% kit

This kit is also designed to be affordable. Thus it includes only necessary keys for most 40% layouts and it contains all currently available spacebars for layouts with split spacebars. Additionally it includes extra B key for layouts like TGR Alice.

Novelties kit

Most of all my sets do offer some sort of novelties and Boneyard is not an exception. The theme is here obvious. Its about Pirates/Buccaneers which adds some adventurous touch to it.

Domino kit

This kind of novelties was introduced in GMK Carbon R2/SP SA Carbon R2 and here it is available in the Boneyard colorway which sets it apart from the previous runs. Anyway if you want to display the number keys on your keyboard in a different way then this is the kit you should get ;)

FYI, the beige text is really hard to read with the Austere theme

You could always embrace your inner WordArt and give it a nice glow effect.

I don't have the theme but the Title is now glowing and has shadows which might help to distinguish it better from back ground.

just a heads up the base kit lists the second 2.25u shift as a 1.75u. Might wanna edit to avoid confusion.

Would the gray here match the gray in oblivion alphas? Could I use the dice keys with oblivion or would they stand out?

the skull and bones or the skull/octopus would make a great accompanying deskmat, any plans?

I just packed up my oblivion and carbon sets or I’d show you. Boneyard is darker than oblivion alphas and is close-ish to mods. I’ve sat them next to each other and they don’t look bad, but the alpha-mod difference is pretty low.

I'm still using GMK Carbon r1 and planning to join in so i can mix the alpha/mod. Therefore, my question is: Can i mix them to create bone base kit like GMK Carbon r2 ?

I had GMK Carbon r1 and boneyard alphas and they were good together. Whether or not the grey keys have any shine or not is a bigger difference than batches of the grey color. I think using your alphas with these mods would look great.

Pedantic-Carbon bone base from GMK Carbon R2 uses R0 f row and R5 base. So the profile here is different but the colors are essentially the same.

Oblivion mods & Boneyard use same color "officially", not alphas.

Boneyard and Oblivion mods use the same gray base color. So basically its open for mix and matching. I also mentioned this in the first post of this topic (see in the description).
GMK (or rather their plastic supplier) is also very consistent in colors from batch to batch. I can for example mix and match different GMK Carbon rounds without noticing any discrepancies in colors.

Of course you can do that. Actually i never thought of this combo but you got it ;)

Thanks all. I see the answer to the oblivion question was in the description text. I didn't think such a question was likely to be answered there but such an expericed gb runner was thinking ahead.

It appears real life pictures are way lighter than the renders, I would assume the boneyard is not using GMK base colors right?

Its using custom colors which were used in GMK Carbon and in partially in GMK Oblivion.

If you take the picture in the first post then it appears to be lighter - yes. Because the light was pretty bright on that day. In each environment it will look different. Today i made this photo outside.

Here it appears darker.

No hope for deskmats?

Kraken buccaneers and bones made their way to deskmats, I’d probably buy both...

Same!

In the next possible Group Buy for Carbon - i will offer matching deskmats for Boneyard (probably there will be even two versions), Carbon and probably Beezarre too.

Whether the lack of difference between gmk and SA times persists after covid dies down is unclear, but right now I might give SA the edge

I just got a Base kit + Dominos. The Dominos can also double as more interesting Ortho modifiers. I wish there had been an Alphas kit, it'd have gone well with the recent N9 ortho mods kit.

That being said, I love seeing more interesting 'default' color kits. This will go with more cases than WoB for example, while staying elegant and simple. Thanks for that!
