Group Buy Therapy
« on: Tue, 10 February 2015, 22:15:18 »
To all the awesome and wonderful and committed group buy leaders we have here, we love you, we really do but group buys can be really depressing.

So what can we do while waiting on all the group buys we have to pass the time or make them less of a drag?

I'm much more wary of GB's these days after getting burned in alixinhzai's 60% case GB. Doesn't matter how cool the item for sale is, if you haven't had previous experience running GB's then you won't be getting my cash. Very hesistant to get involved in any GB's that get too big as well, whether it's too many items for sale or too many people buying it just makes things take forever.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

This is what amazes me....almost ANYONE can just throw up an interest check/group buy.....I bet I could make a few thousand dollars with nothing more than a mockup and some good words then skip out....yeah people know where I live but what if I used an alternate account to do it! profit and anonymity.

Sounds like you need a BS keyboard ;)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yeah that's becoming a pretty massive problem for me as well, paying like 20% more now than I was less than 6 months ago. When you factory in shipping it puts a lot of stuff out of my price range.

See that's the thing about groupbuys, you have to wait for them. **** that. Sets will be in the classifieds eventually.

Then again if everybody thought like me there would be no groupbuys.

Exactly.  Hack'd By Geeks might be "only" $120, but that translates to about AUD$155, add US$15 shipping or so and the total comes to nearly AUD$175.

Actually I think it was closer to AUD$185 a few days ago, perhaps the currency conversion rate has changed.

Unfortunately this pushes it into "too expensive" for me :(

GMK group buys could be so easy if organisers and buyers weren't intent on adding a million keys to the sets putting them out of price range for most people. Sick of people around here expecting everyone else to foot the bill for their ****ty choice in keyboards.

Anyways, I'm guessing Sprit will never show up for his GB. That's what I get for getting tempted by anything Korean custom related ... Should've listened to demik. Could've added to my HHKB fund with the money lost :(

I can think of one or two such GBs that went this way.

One set of just modifiers was going to cost upwards of $80.  Just for modifiers

Go for it, I already have! My case actually got shipped to me in the end (botay46 picked up the slack and shipped all orders after alixinhzai went AWOL) but unfortunately they couldn't deliver it (@#%$% knows why) and it got returned to sender. By the time I figured that out botay had lost the shipping slip for it and they wouldn't let him pick it up. Still pissed about that GB.

You know what was my first keyboard GB ever?
7bit's Round 5!

And I have not even hear a thing since, what, 2 years ago?

My gosh! And yet people keep on saying he delivers. I don't know..

I'm glad I stayed out of that one, I was worried it was going to take forever due to the size of the GB.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Don't feel too bad mate, there's always the classifieds! I was super disappointed when I first joined because I'd missed out on signup for the GMK Purple buy, only took me a few months before I found a set!

How about a therapy thread for group buy leaders?

tfw GMK charges me $200 for shipping and then ships all the CMYW caps as a standard packet (similar to first class international) :'( :'( :'(

My first group buy and the set never made it. After a reasonable time to suspect it lost in transit a replacement was sent out. All shipping info double verified and was correct both times. About 9-10 months after that was sent out I ended up moving and never got to see anything from that buy. Somewhere in the world I have two keysets, lol.

It's the worst feeling. I saw photos of my case and everything, so painful knowing that it's probably just been sitting in a post office or thrown out.

After reading this thread.. I realized how lucky I got because my first GB went so smoothly.  Waiting 2 to 4 months to get what you paid for can be a little antsy especially for impulse buyers like myself, but when it finally came it was worth the wait.  I am usually the type that will pay an extra 10 dollars in shipping to get stuff a few days early if I really want something.  The group buy process has helped me develop patience!
