This looks like a fun project.  Definitely in for a pcb and some sort of case solution (if possible).

Wow, ok then.  24 hours was enough!  As of this moment I have enough people to proceed.  And metalliqaz has already completed the code!  That means we can start to build layouts and layers now, although I can't see who would need MORE keys!  (Perhaps different sets of LH keys for different uses?)

Anyhow, this is the kick-off list as of now:

njbair
hak foo
jdcarpe
Spaceman1200
SpAmRaY
Data
blai5000
HoffmanMyster
iamtootallforthis
engicoder
rm-rf
blighty

Everyone else: there is still time to add yourself to the list!

After the weekend I will e-mail invoices to everyone who signed up.  Once at least 10 people actually pay, I will place the order.

In other news, I am now working on a "universal" plate design.  Check the case thread for updates on that.

Happy Saturday!

If nothing else, I like that the success of this project shows there's clear demand for bigger boards.  I'm so sick of the trend of SSK-size, leading to 75%, 60%, 40%, and "Well, I can only type half the alphabet without using a modifier but it fits into a pocket of my skinny jeans"

Does the Teensy mount on the bottom or the top of the PCB? I'm mainly asking in regards to accessing the reset button for flashing.

As long as the PCB fits a Unicomp 122 key rubber dome case you can count me in for a PCB and maybe a plate if you end up making them.
Can you ship to France? If yes, any idea how much shipping would be?

On the bottom.  The center of the Teensy is aligned with the center of Column 22 (Numpad_5 column.)  The brown layer of the circuit diagram is the back silkscreen, and the image of the Teensy++ there is as accurate as I could make it, especially the placement of the USB connector and the reset switch.

As long as the PCB fits a Unicomp 122 key rubber dome case you can count me in for a PCB and maybe a plate if you end up making them.

I can't say for sure about that case.  I am trying to make it fit the Unicomp PC-122 B/S case, but I won't know if I succeeded untilI have the PCBs in hand.

Regarding shipping, I can ship anywhere -- but paying for shipping, insurance, and Customs will be your responsibility.  I'll try to estimate shipping cost to Europe this week.

I'll try to post some pictures of the inside of the case this week in hopes that someone will be able to tell me if it's the same as the BS model

Edit: it just seems more cost effective for them to have used the same case for both models

The important thing is the spacing between the blocks.  On the Unicomp PC-122, the spacing is 0.330" (8.38mm), and so the PCB has that spacing.  (Actually, I used 0.340, 0.330, and 0.330" so they sum to 1.00".)

Anyhow, if you can measure the physical width of each of the three bars between the key blocks, I can tell you if they are the same on my empty PC-122 B/S case.  If that was a confusing request, let me know and I'll post a picture of what I need to know.

(Or, I suppose someone could just send Unicomp an e-mail and ask.)

Yes, I can do this now.

Also, once you've written up the final .dxf for the plate -- remember I've run a couple group buys for laser-cut steel as there's a shop not too far from where I work that used to have pretty okay prices. You could consider sending it to me for part of your 'shopping around'

Or I could PM you the shop's contact information but they've historically been hard to email.

I guess I'm in.
Even though I'm unsure whether it will fit in a 2100 case or not I could easily use a case from a unicomp 122 which would suffice quite nicely.

What are the possible case this PCB will fit ?

There's a more thorough discussion in the other thread, but right now I think the answer is:
  • probably the PC-122 case available from Unicomp
  • Possibly the '2100' case mentioned just above you
  • Samwioski should have a 'bent-plate' that will function as a case
(will require cutting and connecting the PCB if I understand aright)
  • or of course you can make your own to be sure.

Quick update: I've modified and marked the PCB to enable safe removal of the entire left-hand bank.  This is apparently needed for use in some Cherry case(s).

FYI to anyone interested in doing that,

Sorry but I'm still not sure what part needs measuring. Here are pictures of the inside of the Unicomp rubber dome 122 key.
If the pictures don't allow you to tell the size let me know what parts I need to measure
Thanks for the help

You can count me in for 1 PCB and 1 plate (if you make plates for this case)

Is the unicomp 122 compatible w/ an ibm 1390702? I messed up a boltmod attempt, so if I could swap the pcb, I might be interested.

All: Thanks for the prompt payments!

Non-US geekhackers: I just estimated USPS shipping cost to the UK as an example, and came up with $25 USD for First-Class Mail (insured but not tracked) and $60 USD for Priority Mail (insured AND tracked).

These will be light but long, so the USPS sticks it to us.  If it helps any, I imagine shipping more than one in a single package would hardly add to the cost.

FYI,

Remitted.  I can't believe how quickly this operation is running.  I guess people are worried that you could break off one edge of a spare PCB and run them through if they don't pay.

Them 60% boards are barely long enough to break the skin, much less pierce a vital organ. :)

Ron what are you thinking about doing case wise for these? I really like the one piece bent metal case design.

Thanks all!  My master list is back at the office, so I'll update the [PAID] list later today.  (I will also send WNovizar another invoice to the e-mail address just provided.)

I am going to review the layout one more time, then place the order.  The boards should arrive around April 15th, and I'll build up a 100% test keyboard to check both the hardware and firmware.  Once I know it works, I'll ship the US boards immediately in the USPS Priority Mail large game boxes I just ordered.  Best case timeline puts PCBs in your hands around the 1st of May.

Once that is done, I am going to pull some of the switches back off of the PCB, and mount it into a Unicomp PC-122 case.  No plate.  (I'll document that process for those who want to replicate it.)  See the GH-122 case thread for discussions about plates and cases.

TL;DR Ordering soon. PCBs to be tested then shipped for mailing via USPS Priority Mail around May 1st.

Just joined the buy.  I was following the "GH-122 Making a Stupidly Large MX (or Alps) Keyboard" thread from last year with great interest.  Saw this popup on Spy, glad I didn't miss it.  Thanks samwisekoi!

I've been day dreaming about this board all week but they all revolve around me getting my hands on a full Nuclear Data set  :(

I'm going to be following the project with great interest. Really cool to see the 122 actually happening, Sam  :thumb:

Ok, I just got the expected phone call from the manufacturer:

"Do you really want those holes to overlap each other?"

Why yes.  Yes I do.  Even those nasty ones around the ISO and ANSI Enter key locations.

"Thanks.  We'll get this order going."

Apparently not every PCB looks like a crazed maniac hit it with #2 buckshot.  But MINE do!

Anyhow, situation normal.  PCBs going into the build process now.
