Hey everyone, I'm exploring a workstation setup where a split keyboard (e.g. Kinesis Freestyle or Ergodox) is mounted to the chair's arm rests. I was hoping someone has tried this before and can provide advice.

The motivation: I have a good "learn forward" desk and chair, but to mix it up and give my lower back a rest, I like to use a "lean back" setup as much as I can while at home. Currently I lie on my back on the floor with my legs up on an ottoman, hands at my side using the Kinesis Freestyle, with the laptop screen suspended above my face held by a Furinno laptop table [1]. It works OK but it's a pretty extreme, anti-social position, it's hard to get up to take breaks, and the back of my head eventually gets tired.

So I'd like to explore using a recliner for my "lean back" setup so that I'm a little more upright. I like chairs which have firm surfaces because I find them less fatiguing when used for long sessions. I've been looking at something like a wooden deck chair, where you're reclined a bit and your weight is distributed across your back and legs. I find laying my arms on the arm rests comfortable. Here are two examples I found on Amazon which might be comfortable and keyboard-mountable: [2] [3]. I've never sat in a chair like this for a long time, and I've never mounted a split keyboard to arm rests. If there are ergo reclining chairs built for this purpose, I'd love to hear about them.

Has anyone built a similar setup that they've liked? What are some lessons you've learned?

I have nothing useful to say but i'm very interested to see what you come up with!
I sometimes daydream about doing this with a massage chair :)

Btw, I'm currently waiting for a Stressless office recliner to be delivered,
I plan to use it with ErgoRests (they are awesome) and the ErgoDox.
Gonna post my findings in some weeks, stay tuned...
