[IC] GMK Sixes - A reversed Nines.

Ladies and gents, I present to you: GMK Sixes. heavily inspired by Emir's Nines and T0mb3ry's Carbon, this is a simple yet elegant two tones set using The U9 and N9 GMK colors.

You could say it's GMK Nines but reversed. Hence the name... (I wasn't too inspired when coming up with a name, not gonna lie)


IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:
As of 11/16/20, I can no longer maintain the project due to personal reasons. People who were already interested in the set surely saw that coming since I haven't updated the post and been active on GH for months now. However, fret not my dear friends, for a savior has come ! While I keep creative ownership of the set, Emir will now be continuing and maintaining the project. You should expect some news soon enough about a GB date, and more ! I understand that many of you were eagerly waiting for an update and none came, not even one saying I put the project on hold, and for that I deeply apologize. But now we are rolling again, hype it back up and make sure to thank Emir.

Now, onto the kits:


Base kit:



I stripped down many things from the base kit as many people don't necessarily need everything and having a good looking and really affordable set is always appreciable 


Calc kit:



You standard numpad kit with everything you need for it, including a double 0. But some grump in the discord who's angry at NumLock for some reason (love you Miguel) proposed an R1 "=" key and I so loved it I added it. It really gives that calculator feeling to a separate numpad !


ISO kit:



Now this one is a little special. As you can see it's quite chonky for an ISO kit but let me explain. As most of you know an ISO kit is always struggling to reach MOQ... when it does. But I also wanted to keep the base kit as light as possible. So instead of having a couple keys in a small kit resulting in an Atlantis ISO (thanks Eski), I opted to make a whole UK kit. In this, you get everything you'd need to make a whole, complete UK layout, which may be preferable to some people, instead of a poor little kit who doesn't know where it stands, and is struggling to reach MOQ.


Smol kit:



Your usual kit for your usual smol boards. Whether it is a 40% or an Alice, this should cover it.


Makeup kit:



So you didn't get GMK Nines. First of all, how dare you? And second of all, I got you! These should quench any thirst of accenting you might have.


Space kit:



The U9 ones are 6u, and one is off-centered. The N9 ones 6.25 and 7u. Not much else to say ?


Ogre kit:



This is for you beasts rocking your ergo, you're not left in the dark! This should cover pretty much everything and if it doesn't, what are you even typing on?


The Lost Nines:



Ok, so my man makes dope sets, there's no denying that. But when he made GMK Nines he apparently had a beef with some keys, leaving you stranded and alone, full of despair when you wanted to get that sweet set on your unorthodox board or your Alice. But now those lost keys are back, and even better! You can put Nines on your 40%, or even experience a true UK layout. Or just accent those keys in Sixes if that's your thing.

Haha thanks! And yes I thought about it, having a RAMA cap but having VI/VI instead would be cool. But since it's my first IC I don't really know how that goes down. I'll talk with Mr RAMA, learn about how that stuff goes and see if people are interested about this. But yes good suggestion!

Couple quick comments:

The split spacebar is an example of something that could go in the "nice." kit, oriented towards non standard layouts. I'm 99% sure this will be included in it. I should have like a picture or something for it, to catch the eye because it can be missed for the reader who mainly look at the kits and renders.

As for your base kit change, that's noted. I'll be writing down suggestions like this and AlcoholEnthusiast's one, will see if those are not too much of a hassle/wanted by a number of people and then make changes to the render accordingly.

The Base kit will be subject to little change. I might add in some extra keys or make some very minor revisions but the goal is to have a basic set that covers most layouts, that's affordable and where people can switch really whatever keys they want if they own Nines. I'm not saying this is set in stone, if there's an overwhelming demand of one specific change then change there will be, and I'm still writing down everyone's suggestions. But if it's either something that can be in the nice. kit or something that not many people want, then it probably won't make it into the final revision. But don't let that discourage you from writing suggestions and constructive criticism!

Also I added a much needed attention catcher gif for the nice. kit because some people seemed to have missed it

I picked up an N9 ergodox kit and additional 1u N9 blanks from the blank buy a bit ago for Nines, but U9 blanks for Sixes are a bit harder to come by (sure the U9 alphas would go great with CP Mods like those Commodore branded Cherry boards, but I probably still need U9 (or more N9) blanks and can't really afford a set of GMK Pristine.

I love the Phillips Hue lights because in the day time and morning I go cool blue, but at night when you (and babies) want to wind down can switch to a more neutral/yellow. I'd imagine bright blue at night not so ideal.

This kit is actually more special than you give it credit for: this is a full UK+US iso kit; even both US-ISO styles (PC and terminal) are covered!

I don't get the weird selection of keys in the makeup kit. why only 2 1.25 keys? why the 1.5 and 1u keys that seem to be there specifically for hhkb layout but then no 1u fn key? why is the tilde and the 1.5u backslash of all things important enough to be there, who would want that accented but not backspace? is that a 2u shift? why?

Hey everyone ! Sorry for being silent, but I'm really busy with life and exams are coming up so I don't really have time to work on this. But next week should be good, I'll be back on it.

Basically the kits are pretty much final. I'll be partnering with MkUltraCorp for a "Boardwalk Extension Kit" (name still tbd) that'd be an addon for the Ogre kit. It'll contain 2x2u and 2x1.5u R4 in both U9 and N9 and it'll be running alongside the Sixes GB.

I want to have some new renders to show off the new kits and some pretty ones for GB launch to post on instagram (follow me on there cuz I'll be posting when I'm back working on Sixes wink wink).

I still have to find a vendor for America and one for Asia, then the usual stuff with quotes, GB date, etc...

For an ETA, we don't really know yet, but since NK is kinda full, expect it in fall, maybe around november if possible but NO DATE HAS BEEN FIXED YET, it's just an estimate.
As I said previously, MkUltraCrop will be running a Boradwalk Extension kit but since Janglad stopped doing render, I can't get any more to show it sadly. But it will have 2x2u and 2x1.5u in R4, blank, in each color. Pricing will come later on. I'm also talking with Salvun for an artisan but it's still unsure because 1. There's already a lot of kits and 2. We need to find something nice to produce and standard/clean sets are kinda restricting for this (c.f. the amazing artisan he did for GMK Copper). I'll update the IC and start to hype things back up once a date has been fixed.

It certainly does. I have a gmk coniferous set, which uses the same base colour for the caps, but with green legends. I combined the alphas with 9009 modifiers to get an idea of what the final thing would look like - suffice to say I’m going to order from this gb when it’s available.

However, last time I spoke to Janglad he stopped doing renders so if I end up adding them in, I'm not sure I can add them to the existing renders. Fingers crossed he still has the Sixes files and can just do a quick edit.

For the Ogre Ergo kit, can you add an additional Row 4, 1.5U key? This would pair nicely with boards with as the Boardwalk. I'm sure many would appreciate these two key as well.

Just noticed, seems kind of odd to include `¬ if there's already a `¬¦ key (e.g. there's also a <>|, but no <>). Dropping `¬ could help you shave off a few keys in a couple of kits.

Edit: 1.75u space is another key that you could potentially drop. See this discussion in the Avanguardia thread for more details. R3 1.25u Tab might be more useful to include than a 1.75u space.

Dreaming about this Ogre/Ergo kit.

Can two extra 1.5u R4 keys be added? This would help folks wanting to use this with an RGBKB Pan, or the Boardwalk in either standard 60% or WKL cases.

I think it would also benefit from having the 2u keys be R4C just like the ErgoDox set for GMK Laser. This would also make it a great fit for anyone wanting to outfit a Planck, Preonic, Let's Split, etc.

I hope it does well so we can have ergo if there is ever a Nines R2....

Their should be a rule where if you abandon your IC for 6 months you automatically give up the design and anyone can just claim and run it.

An extra 2u bar would be great too, imho.  Lots of the new split/ergo/ortho boards use 2x 2u spacebars (e.g. RGBKB Mun and Boardrun). 

It would save some from having to double up on kits for one key.

Excited for this. If you could make these changes to the extension kits to make them cheaper and more attractive to 40s users it would be greatly appreciated:

- remove 1.5u R3 Fn
- remove 1.75u R4 Lock
- remove 1.75u spacebar

+ add 1.25u R3 enter
