Wondering about the reason to split 3u, with the bigger 2u on the outside and the 1u on the inside. Would not 1u 2u 2u 1u be more "natural"? I typically use the inner most keys as space. How do others do this?

It is more about thumb placement. The middle of a traditional spacebar is centred on the B key but depending on whether you use your left hand or right hand for spacebar, it would typically land between V-B or around N respectively.

The 3u spacebar option is very welcome.  I was worried since I use my right thumb under the b-n area when typing and that it would be a major adjustment to type on the 1u-2u split.

Any chance of arrow keys? Would love this as a productivity board for work

Please believe me, once you finally get this board in your hands (after a year), you'll prefer boards without arrows  ;)

Pretty much zero chance. Split spacebar 60% have enough keys and this even has an extra column so that tilde can be in its natural position.
If you are using left hand + mouse for productivity, you are better off with a non-split board.

I've got a minor update which is that I have finished the CAD design for the wrist-rest. I've added a render of it.
I will probably be ordering the next prototype in a couple of weeks.

i'm thinking the concept is this is amazing.

i never owned an ergo so i'm not familiar how it works. what keys do people generally use in the layers to access the up, down, left and right keys?

As a Vim user, I basically use LOWER (left thumb) + hjkl, coz arrow keys are far away from the home position.

Make the wristrest smoky-black PC! If it's a KR inspo, then it's the tinted windshield.

Smokey PC is nice but scuffs are really obvious on it which is why I try to avoid using it on exposed faces and a wrist rest would be prone to wear and tear.

Hm. What about epoxy resin? If I'm not mistaken, higher scratch resistance and easy maintenance if need be.

It is more about thumb placement. The middle of a traditional spacebar is centred on the B key but depending on whether you use your left hand or right hand for spacebar, it would typically land between V-B or around N respectively.

To be fair, with the 2u-1u-1u-2u split you have now, the edge of the spacebar is between V-B.

Yeah, you are right. You wouldn't be splitting your dominant side though and I'd rather have the extra key towards the centre which is the traditional placement for the extra split key.

That's fair.  It might just be me, but I really do prefer the look of 2u-1.25u + 2.75u spacebars on these Alice keyboards.  Staggered is already non-symmetrical by nature, the bizarre split of the spacebar keys just gives it... a unique flair.

Reckon the use of a wrist rest will be a must when typing on this keyboard? Asking since I'm not a fan of wrist rests.

I don't usually use them but I found it nice when using the Microsoft sculpt ergo.
I don't think it's a must though.

Sorry if this has been shared elsewhere, but what's the range of the height on the front? Desktop to lip of the keyboard? Curious especially about the high point (thinking about the need for the wrist rest).

It's close to 35mm high at the apex of the front without bumpons.

The only keyboard that i will buy this year.
Out of curiosity, why is 6 on the left half of the keyboard, shouldn't it be on the right?

If you take B is the actual centre of the alphas, it will be slightly towards the left.
This is proven by the fact that it would cross the tented ridge line if it were on the right half.

As far as the EM7/Alice layout goes, this feels like the next big (non clone) iteration.  I absolutely love how it looks and I hope I can get one when they're ready.  Really keen to continue following this project

every single day since this IC was release, I pray for every single divine entity (even being atheist) for this to be like 500.000 units so I can get one. as I have an interplanetary fame for only being able to get the keyboard I want from flippers :(

As someone who uses the alice layout daily this is a grail.

Going to have to practice using left shift more though because that right shift is really small.

edit: I was worried about keycap compatibility but I just found out that ISO utilizes 1.25 shift.

If you are comfortable with using your thumb for Fn, you could use a 2.25u on your right shift instead of splitting it.

I'm not concerned about that at all since the Type K isn't meant to be a mass market product.
I have to admit that I'm not good at names though.
