Keyboards I use on a regular basis:

  • Phantom / TEX with MX blacks from 1986. This is my daily driver at home.
  • Realforce 87U 55g. This is my daily driver at work.
  • IBM Model F / AT from 1985 that I modded with a Teensy.
  • IBM Model M from 1987 fully restored by Phosphor Glow.
  • QFR with MX blacks from 1989
  • QFR with "Taiwan Jet Axis" switches from a late 80s board a friend found at a demolition site. So much better than the MX blues the board originally had!
  • Apple M0116 with orange Alps. I built an external converter with a Teensy so I can use it on my Linux machines, my Apple IIgs and the Mac it came with in 1987.

Keyboards I've sold in the last year:

  • Six or seven IBM Model M keyboards. One of them had a Phosphor Glow controller. I still have three left to sell for parts or repair.
  • A Focus FK-2001 with blue Alps that I bought new in 1989. Thus the name UnFocused...
  • A George Risk keyboard from the 1970s for an S-100 bus computer.
  • An Apple Lisa keyboard.
  • An Apple IIgs keyboard with orange Alps.
  • An Apple M0116 with orange Alps.
  • An Apple Extended Keyboard II with damped cream Alps.
  • A KB V80 with Matias Quiet Click switches.
  • A KUL-ES 87 with MX clears.

Keyboards I’ve owned and used in the past:

  • The keyboard on a TI/99-4A which was my first computer in 1982.
  • The keyboard on an Apple //e which I used for a few years until I got my…
  • Apple IIgs with orange Alps.

Others that I own:

  • I have four Apple //e computers all with mechanical keyboards. I occasionally use the oldest of these with a keyboard superior to the others.
  • An Apple II+. I rarely use this one because the switches feel awful.
  • A Maxi-Switch Tucson 101 key keyboard which I bought new in 1992. It’s decent for a rubber dome.

He sold it! Hahaha, I couldn't forget that exchange (no hard feelings, of course).

It's humorous to see you end up being part of the community though, Unfocused. It's a clever name, haha. You've definitely got some pretty awesome boards that you use on rotation. I've always been curious about the Taiwan Jet Axis switches and the Pro World switches, which both feature click leaves but have Cherry MX mounts.

I ordered some of these (NOS) off of Taobao the other day, I'm interested to see what they'll be like when they come in.

I sold it on eBay a few months ago. While I liked the blue Alps switches, I never really liked the keyboard itself. I'd try to use it a couple of times per year and always get frustrated at the layout (the pipe and backslash key in particular). I'm fairly stuck on the traditional ANSI Model M layout.

I was considering using the switches to build something else, but then I got my hands on a bunch of vintage MX blacks and built a Phantom.

That whole incident was rather amusing. The person who purchased it from me on eBay bought it because he used to have one years ago and wanted another.

The Taiwan Jet Axis switches are interesting. They're linear and feel heavier than MX blacks, but I've never measured them. They have a noticeably shorter key travel than Cherry & other clones and that bothers me sometimes. Still, I enjoy typing on the QFR board with them more than any tactile / clicky MX switch.

Ahh, I see! I thought that they were actually the same as the Pro World switches before looking them up, but I assumed you had the clicky variant. :P Not a fan of the short throw? I'm actually not sure how I feel about travel distance on switches, as I've happily used 2mm travel scissor switch boards on my laptops. I think Alps' 3.5mm travel is a sweet spot for me, nice and snappy.

I do still like the full 4mm travel of Cherry MX linears and Topre though.

That's interesting to hear about concerning the Focus FK-2001. It's good to see that it went to someone who had some nostalgia for it though. :)

I had never heard of Pro World switches until I read this thread.

Here's an album of the TJA donor keyboard:

And here's before and after photos of the QFR they're living on now:

http://imgur.com/a/WUDyW

I have MX blacks on the stabilized keys because the upper housing of the TJA switches won't work with Costar stabs.

Damn, that's clean af.

That's beautiful!

Thanks.  Needs a couple of new custom cables, but other than that I'm pretty happy with it.

Strated off with a Razer Tournament Edition, moved on to a corsair K65, now using an Ortek MCK-101FX, deciding whether to get a 60% or TKL board with some Alps. I had a rough start, but at least I can say I have moved on.

Getting Mech Key on March 2015.

TTeSports Meka G1 Cherry MX Black > Holycrap this is so heavy, traded with someone
CM Storm Quickfire TK Cherry MX Blue > traded with someone, love this board. Sold to my friend lol.
Razer Blackwidow TE 2014 Razer Green > meh clicky, wobble too much, sold it so fast in 1 month usage.
Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2011 Cherry MX Blue > got it from my bro, crapboard and too many double click. Cleaning and sold it to my other friend lol.
Ducky One Trans-Blue Cherry MX Red > waaaay too light-- Dissappointed, sold to stranger.
Ducky XM, Green XM Switch > My lovely ALPS Clone board. Best clicky switch ever but bad on board because cheap chinese build. Sold it with AEKII Keycaps.
AEKII SKCM Dampened White (Mod using SKBM White Springs and Clicky Leaf) > weird tactile, but love it because vintage board. Still WIP on converting it.
Access IS ATB-422 (idk the type is) Cherry MX Black > Too heavy to bring this, gotta take all the switch and keycaps for extras.
Filco Minila Cherry MX Brown > Daily driver right now. Will mod with ergo clear / ergo grey.

By the looks of it, I am reviving a dead thread, so here goes. All of this will be in chronological order.

1. First was a Logitech G910. Jesus, i hated that thing. So awful.
2. My second was a Coolermaster Quickfire TK. I absolutely loved this, and really enjoyed the clickyness of MX blues at the time.
3. I got a quickfire rapid, again with MX blues. This was my first board that I modded, in which I added a frosty Flake controller and a brand new set of Wyse vintage cherry MX blacks.
4. I actually traded the modded Quickfire for an RF87u, with the variable wighting. This almost turned me against topre, as I absolutely hated the variable weight.
5. My first IBM keyboard, a 1987 Model M. I loved and still love this keyboard, and it is now one of my daily drivers.
6. Misc. Customs: Vague, i know, but none of these were too notable. my first was an LJD61Up, which was an absolute pile of ****. Legit, how does 1up still exist?
7. This is where things get more interesting. I got my first model F, an XT. this was the first board that I restored, due to the amount of rust. I also modded the case and gave it a subtle paint job, as I had to sand down the case to get out some of the scratches.
8. My model F bigfoot, Jesus this thing is Bigly. I am in the process of converting this now.
9. My Wey-Tec HK2000. holy. ****. This. Thing. Is. Beautiful. I am in love. It is also my full time daily driver for my main rig.
10. A work in progress Iris/ergodox cross that uses SKCC greens and spherical doubleshots. Hopefully, this will be what gets me through college, as I am still a senior in high school.
Ive got myself a beefy boi

Okay but now put it in order? :p

I could but I don't want to spend that much time doing so. I know my first few:

Tt Poseidon Z (Brown Kailh)
Tt Poseidon Z (Blue Kailh)
Ducky Shiny 3 (Cherry MX Blue)
Chicony 5161 (Alps SKCM Blue)
Panasonic PBSHA-1ZA (Amstrad Leaf Spring)
Ducky Shine 3 (Cherry MX Green)
I proxy anything including keyboards (キーボード / 鍵盤), from both Japan (日本) and China (中國). For more information, you may visit my dedicated webpage here: https://www.keyboards.es/proxying.html

Whatever up until about 2012. Sysadmin at work had a Unicomp Buckling Spring. I got one after trying it out. Coworkers in the dev room did not like it so it became my home driver.

At that point I knew I did not want a "regular" keyboard. Employer had a Siig Minitouch in a box somewhere in storage that I found. Used that without knowing it was technically mechanical, I just liked how it felt.

Saw custom Poker 2 on reddit:

So I got one with mx blues. Used it for a few weeks: coworkers still did not like it but was better than the buckling spring that the sysadmin insisted on using. Sysadmin ended up leaving eventually (unrelated), and so my poker 2 became the most hated board at work.

I'm a dev so I would occasionally read Jeff Atwood posts, saw his CODE with mx clears and had to have it. Used that for a good long while.

Got a new job, the CODE connection was getting loose so I started looking on reddit for a new board idea. Found the CM Novatouch, silenced on r/mechmarket and it made me so happy.

Realized that topre is life so eventually got the Leopold FC660C. Still loved clears and loved the idea of reactive backlighting so got the Pok3r with white leds. Also ended up getting the Norbauer case for my novatouch and a GMMK TKL to test switches.

Started going to meetups, felt so many cool keyboards. Decided I need to make my own boards to finish endgaming.

My final lineup will always include:

  • Space Station case-lined Norbatouch w/ BKE Lights on alphas, BKE Heavy's on mods, silenced w/ hyperspheres (or keyclack v2 rings if they ever come out), lubed, with black PPS keycaps and CMY blank PBT accent mods.
  • FC660C w/ stock domes, lubed, landing pad silenced, custom resin modifiers and POM alphas. Will add the heavy-6 case to it when that's completed.

My future builds are:
  • MX Zilent 60% build
  • Holy Panda 60% build

One will have RGB backlighting, one might have underglow. I plan to program my own lighting modes at some point. Then I'm done.

Then after that I might just be interested in minor adjustments to the boards and maybe getting keysets to change things up.

Leopold FC660C lubed, silenced with landing pads | Norbatouch lubed, silenced with hyperspheres | Poker II MX Blue with vortex aluminum case, vortex red/white doubeshot pbt caps and o-rings | CODE TKL MX Clear with Miami | Unicomp Buckling Spring | GMMK with rainbow vomit switches, mostly jailhouse blues and pandealios

People probably don't say that enought but thanks for a very entertaining channel. I like how you make videos, you are plesant to listen to and I wouldn't mind seeing other videos from you, not necessarily revolving around keyboards. Would be dope if you could do mices and computers in general like CPUs/GPUs etc or even gaming. Cheers.

Thanks mate! :)

I'm not sure if I'll continue doing videos when I run out of keyboards tbh. Most things either already have been done to death, are not interesting to me, or both xD .

Oh god, heh.

Corsair K70 w/ MX Reds (back when it was red LED only)
Filco Majestouch-2 w/ MX Blacks (too soft)
KBP v60 w/ Gateron Blues (chattering issue)
Z70 w/ Gateron Greens (too heavy)
Zowie Celeritas II w/ Flaretech Optical 55g (bought it to try the optical switches out)

Hopefully next will be a Leopold FC660m w/ Zealios 67g

How about a visual about the current keyboard I have been using for quite some time.

Filco Minila Cherry MX Brown

Continuing the history right now.

Summary from the last post
TTeSports Meka G1 CMX Black > CM Storm QF TK CMX Blue > Razer Blackwidow TE 2014 Razer Green > Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2011 CMX Blue > Ducky One Transparent Blue CMX Red > Ducky XM, Green XM Switch (ALPS Clone) > AEKII SKCM Damp. White > Filco MacOS FKB-97 > Access IS AKB500 (not ATB-422) CMX Black > Filco Minila CMX Brown > Filco Minila Air CMX Black.

Now, how's the status of them now?
Start from the AEKII, I didn't have time to convert it, instead, I sold it. I want to get the ADB Cables but my country didn't have any. Same as FKB-97 but I'm not selling it, but getting it hand-wired (WIP).

What about Access IS? I bought it again, and the first one was broken lol. So, I bring my new Access IS Keyboard to my new office. Co-worker keep snuggling and want to buy mech keeb because my habit using mechanical keyboard lmao.

And what's the new challenger right now?

HHKB Pro 1. Yes, you aren't wrong read it, it's the first HHKB Pro and I bought it from YAJ (Yahoo Auction Japan), got the best condition except the case was yellowed, not gonna retrobright it because I want the original condition like that. It's aesthetic.

The next one is KUL ES-87, CMX Clear. My wishlist is done (for now). I do want this keyboard just because I love how KUL made an official custom top case replacement, like CM Storm did in its age.

Summary for the post :
- HHKB Pro 1
- Access Is AKB-500
- KUL ES-87

My first mechanical keyboard was a Corsair K70 RGB MX Brown, bought with my 1st bonus paycheck mid-2015 :) Then the boards came and went in the following orders: Ducky YOTH MX Green, Leopold 900R MX Red, Filco ECW MX Blue, Novatouch (No.1), Filco Kinrin MX Black, FC660C; K-Type, Realforce 87UW 55g and Novatouch (No.2) are currently on my desk. I'm not a custom kind of guy but I'm a sucker for that goodness with one cup rubber  :p

It's been a while!
I started off on a Corsair K60 with Reds, kept that a while till moving onto a CM TK with Blues. Sampled a QFR with Greens, didn't like 'em and resold it quickly.
Moved on to a Leopold FC660C to try out Topres; I loved the switches, bought a Type-S because of their reputation. Used them for a while, wanted to switch it up; sold it, picked up a custom-made board with Clears, and went a couple years with just that; recently, I bought a Realforce R2, and am using it as my main driver with the Clears board as a secondary.

Cheap Dell rubber dome keyboard
Poker II (MX Blue)
Unicomp Model M
Keytronic Model M
Apple Magic Keyboard 2
HHKB Professional
HHKB Type-S
Model F Kishsaver (HHKB Layout, hopefully soon!)

Took me a while to get to it, but I really like the HHKB layout. Makes using Emacs keybinding across all my workflow super efficient.

Most of them no, but I've since added some to the collection as well, probably sitting at 20-30 boards at the moment.
I proxy anything including keyboards (キーボード / 鍵盤), from both Japan (日本) and China (中國). For more information, you may visit my dedicated webpage here: https://www.keyboards.es/proxying.html

A Das Keyboard 3 Ultimate was my first Mechanical keyboard bought back in 2008. I was into keyboards and the decision was between an HHKB, DAS Keyboard or a Frogpad. LOL

took me some years to end up here and another year or so before a groupbuy enticed me to bother with signing up.

then.....

GH60 (My first build)
ErgoDox (Sold)
Xerox JD-2 (Sold)
Realforce 23UB (Sold)
VE.A (Sold)
HHKB Professional I (Sold)
Winkeyless B.87 EX (Gifted)
TADA 65 (Sold)
IBM Pingmaster Chinese
Duck Lightsaver III Silver (Gifted)
Duck lightsaver III Black (Sold)
Singa R2

....soon.
